  1. While my head agree's with you, my experience doesn't. I had various brake upgrades on cars in the past, even cars that I could lock up with the standard brakes, I found could stop a hell of a lot quicker with real brakes. ← I'm no physicist, but I gotta say I'm with johng on this one. Not looking for any argument with you, Zap, but I'm SURE I read lots of stuff about bigger/better brakes being able to stop you quicker, given all other things remain constant. I agree fully that better tyres will help you stop quicker too, but I think you'll find that in two otherwise identical cars, but one with PBR brakes and the other with stockies, the PBR equipped one will pull up quicker, even with ABS activated in both. I'm sure someone can come up with the technical reason why, but I can't explain it too well. Imagine a tiny pad pressing onto a rotor. Pressed hard enough, it will 'lock' the rotor (and activate the ABS), but it won't be able to slow down the momentum of the rotor WITHOUT locking it very quickly at all. Now take a huge pad with a massive surface area, it would easily slow down the hefty rotor quite quickly - does that make any sense?
  2. When running the generic 10psi map, most people find they need to regap their plugs too. Ideally, you should run the car on a dyno to make sure your AFR's are okay. Best option is, of course, to get a custom tune. And yes, tuners can re-write to the box as many times as you like.
  3. Jeez Chooka, you're a madman!! I've 'only' done about 240km/h on my Z1000 (yes, I know, when I still owned it! ), but without a full fairing it felt like a lot more! On a private road, of course. As for the T, I'm really not into top speeds these days, but I guess I would have had it up to around 160km/h or so. Actually, as a passenger it's probably more than that when I foolishly let the Wog take me for a test drive to check out one of his tunes!
  4. No offence Shazzy, but I don't think Dags is posting up pics of chicks for you!
  5. I'm sure anything's possible, but why would you want to do that? The APS cat is a very fine piece of gear. But if you insist on going this route let me know and I'll take the APS cat off your hands!
  6. My older girl's not 2 1/2 yet but she's set the T's alram off on several occasions now, sometimes much to my embarassment (eg. in a shop, hear a car alarm going off, wonder whose it is, then realise it's my T with the flashing lgiths going! ). She likes pressing the nice red button on the remote pad.
  7. Huh? Run that by me one more time. Most important thing is changeover figure. Can't argue with that. Then don't mention the trade, and haggle like hell to get the best price on the new car, hmm, okay so far. But then it doesn't matter what trade you get? Have I missed something? Surely a really low trade in figure will make the all important changeover amount too high?
  8. Just wanted to add my vote of thanks/appreciation for you starting this thread Slymeat, I can see it being very useful indeed. I know the coppers get a bashing once in a while on this forum, but I think you'll find (if you haven't already) that most sensible members at least partially appreciate the difficulties of your job and commend you for it. I'm a public servant and cop enough grief for that, for goodness' sake!! And nice story about your two year old too, the little rats sure keep you on your toes, don't they?! I'm just relishing the first quiet night I've had in as long as I can remember... (please God, let them stay asleep)
  9. That's more of a spuggin' HORSE than a dog mate!!!
  10. I agree with all the others, definitely a disadvantage to have a trade in. A big pro of the trade in approach is that it's quick, easy and relatively hassle free, but the guys know that and you really do end up paying dearly for it. If you're up for selling your car privately then you're much better off doing so.
  11. You'll also need a healthy bank balance if the authorities bust you with a gutted cat. Why not just fit a hi-flo cat, they're not that expensive.
  12. Any decent workshop should be able to install the Walbro no probs. Pump itself should cost around the $140-170 mark. A pump alone shouldn't give you any more power (who told you that?!). Unless your current pump is out of puff and they've purposely held back your tune to compensate. But yeah, if you're talking those sorts of power levels (400+rwkw) I would suggest a surge tank and additional external fuel pump is a good idea.
  13. I don't think you'll find the limit of the pump. Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure there's a couple of members running in the region of 400+rwkw with the Walbros. Is that enough power for you?!
  14. Don't know a hell of a lot about it, but my understanding is that the Bosch pumps are a lot bigger than their Walbro counterparts, making fitment that much more of a pain. For ease of fitment, I think the best bet is the Walbro GSS-341, many forum members use this pump.
  15. There's some good advice in there Jimmy. Mate, I gotta say I'm with Jordak on this one. I know it's not what you want to hear, but from what little detail you've given, it truly does sound to me like you're trying to live beyond your means a little (and I mean absolutely no offence by that whatsover). I guess I've got the advantage (I think!) of being a decade or so older than you and can now see the sense in good financial management (or at least much more so than when I was 25! ). As much fun as the T is, it's quite an expensive little toy to maintain, particularly if you're modding it. Your idea to reduce your debt by re-financing and selling the T, as well as selling one of the 'bombs', then buying yourselves another new/safe car (even the NA BA on LPG) to transport the bub in sounds like the best plan to me. Once the bub comes along you'll have plenty to occupy you apart from the car! And the extra 'disposable' income you'll have will more than come in handy, especially if you're also thinking about saving up for a house/paying off your mortgage, etc. I personally made the call to sell my beloved bike when bubba number two came along, not so much for financial reasons but more safety, unable to find time to ride it, etc. And I don't really regret that decision as the rewards you get from having children are truly too many to mention (although it can also be VERY stressful at times). The financially sound decision will nearly always sound like the worst as far as your heart is concerned, but deep down I think I know where your priorities lie. As others have said, you're only 25 and have plenty of time left to enjoy cars. Good luck Jimmy, I hope it all works out really well for you guys, and a huge congrats on the bub mate, well done!
  16. Hey, Chooka, Hey, Dags, keep up the good work mate!
  17. Trust me, that is MOST unfortunate for you, my friend. PS Thanks, Dags.
  18. Give ya a month. Damn nice car mate, if I were ordering a new one today I reckon I could just about cut and paste your list of specs into my wish list.
  19. I like your style matey, you're gonna fit in just fine around here! Nice ride by the way, and I gotta say I LOVE the colour (I'm a black fan myself, but settled on HgAg for practicality reasons).
  20. Rice, rice baby...
  21. That's correct, unless (as Ford_Power said) you send the box back to CAPA, get it unlocked, and then download the latest factory flash into your F slot. Once any custom tunes are uploaded to the car, the only 'factory' map that can be reflashed is the map that was downloaded into the F slot on your Edit box the FIRST time you used it (or the FIRST time after it has been unlocked by CAPA). Re-writing to the F slot is NOT an option, unlike the P1, P2 and P3 slots.
  22. Lucifer, as Tom has already alluded to, I think the main difference with Edit is the availability of a LOT of extra torque very low down in the rpm range. As you'd be aware, torque (more so than outright power) is what you 'feel' when you're accelerating. Tom isn't the only member who has switched from APS to Edit and been happy with the results. Most sensible members would acknowledge that APS makes some fantastic gear (I think their exhaust and I/c are still fairly widely regarded as some of the best products money can buy), but as far as modding the T is concerned, technology has moved on and other options are now available. APS is, unfortunately, limited in what Unichip can do, whereas Edit can control vastly more parameters, including firming up auto shifts for example. Whilst APS still has a place in modding circles for those after assured, well engineered outcomes, Edit offers more flexibility in tuning and, ultimately, I beleive has shown to obtain 'better' results. If you are able to compare dyno charts of APS and Edited cars with similar peak power outputs, I'm sure you'd see a vast difference in their torque curves. You really can't look past the torque factor for every day driving, there ain't many of us who spend time around the 5,000rpm mark when driving on public roads. Low down torque, and plenty of it, is what it's all about (assuming your 'box can handle the additional stress, of course!). I would put money on the fact that you'd never look back on your $1,500 or so investment in Edit.
  23. I reckon you'd be very lucky to get away with $400 a corner for 'decent' rubber in 19". One of the main reasons I chose to go with 18" was the cost of good tyres. I got my Goodyear F1 GS-D3's for $350 a pop, and that was on special down from about $450 each. Equivalent rubber in 19" was going to cost in the region of $600-700+ per tyre!! Your choice mate, 19" certainly look that much better but you'll be leaving yourself open to damaging your rims more easily on potholes, etc. You'll probably get less traction off the line with the lower profile tyres too, but that's in extreme cases I guess. And it's up to you whether the 'look' is worth sacrificing tyre quality for (Nankangs can be had cheap) or whether you're up for the additional expense of good quality rubber. 18"s will be cheaper in the long run, still look pretty good (especially with stock brakes) but may start to look a bit on the small side with all these other cars running huge rims.
  24. Bring on them Wogbrakes I say!!
  25. I can vouch for that, your Terry looks soooooo good with them on, limo-like in its darkness, way cool. Just wish they made a similar product for the Falcons!
