  1. Nah, the spark plugs were not done. But it revs through the range fine, off boost. There seems to be no noticeable problem (but then I am no mechanic). It's just this loud fluttering has me worried that there may be something wrong, and is not showing,.... yet apart from this fluttering sound.
  2. Thanks fellas for replying, I thought I wasn't gonna get a response for a bit then. Yeah it is a loud fluttering. I live in Darwin, and we haven't got much choice in tuners up here. I'm not sure if I could trust the couple we do have. My initial tune was done by someone flown up. But then I'm not too sure about him. I put my trust in the workshop that flew him up. It's an auto, 2005 BA II
  3. I have had my T modified (edit, exhaust, 2nd intake, high flow filter). It about 238rwkw. So not a large power increase. So my T boost to about 10psi now. But when I gun it, I hear a loud fluttering sound from the engine. I was just wondering if this is normal for modified T's, or is it a sign of the actuator not being strong enough, and opening and closing on boost to cause the fluttering? I have a boost gauge, and it seems to hold boost ok, so I doubt my suspicions of it being a weak wastegate actuator. So I'm just wondering if any of you other T owners have experienced the same? Is it normal and expected or is there a problem? It's not causing any power lose as far as I can tell.
  4. Yeah I read the article in the paper as well. Cool. Gathering and a run around on Saturday sounds good to me.
  5. The only Castrol oil they included in the comparison was Castrol Formula R 0W-40, and it, along with the others performed poorly in comparison to the top three in the test. The top 3 were - Royal Purple 10W-40 Multigrade - Royal Purple R51 - Penrite Synthetic 5 5W-60 The oils that were included were - Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 -Shell Helix Plus 15W-50 -Gulf Western Ultra 15W-50 -Pennzoil GT Performance 10W-40 -Fuchs Titan Supersyn MB 5W-30 -Motul Turbolight 10W-40 -Motul E-Tech 0W-40 -Elf Excellium GP 5W-40 -Mobil 1 0W-40 -Mobil Synth S 10W-40 - Pentrite HPR 5 Semi Synthetic 5W-40 - RedLine Synthetic 5W-40 - Elf Competition GT 10W-40 -Valvoline Durablend 10W-40 - and the 4 others I mentioned above. Judging from this test, I will most likely go with the Penrite Synthetic 5 for my next oil change. Being a top performer and Aussie.
  6. I recently read in some misguided magazine, Street Commodores (Mar 06 Ed), an article where they carried out some friction tests with various off-the-shelf engine oils. They only included full synthetic or semi-synthetic oils, such as Mobil 1, Shell Helix Ultra and Plus etc. The interesting outcome was that the two best performing oils were from Royal Purple and Penrite. These two clearly outperformed the other oils (18 all up), including Mobil 1 and Shell Helix Ultra (these two kind of performed badly in comparison). In the article it did say it was not a comprehensive test, and were done on a test machine (not an actual engine). But I thought it showed a good indication of the oils lubricating ability and film strength. Just thought people on this forum would be interested about this.
  7. I'm not one of the regular 4, as I'm pretty new to this site but am eager to meet up with other T owners too. My T is only slightly modified, with an SS Inductions CAI and K&N Air filter. I've got boost and oil pressure gauges as well (more for show than anything else.). I was initially worried about the warranty thing as well, but thought I would take a chance with the CAI and air filter and see how it goes. I'm hanging out for an edit and exhaust, but will wait until after my warranty expires (which is still about 2 years away). The main reason I went for the mods in the first place was that Frost had re-edited my car on the 3000km check up service. And that re-edit made my car a fair amount slower to when I first got it. About 1 a second slower over the 400m. They would not put back the original factory program I had when I first got the car. Even though I was not experiencing any problems with it. I even went as far as Ford in Melbourne. But nothing! So now I've done the CAI and air filter, and have managed to get the times back around to what I originally got. Otherwise I don't think I would have started to modify until after the warranty. I have noticed there are a lot of XR's on the road and quite a few are T's.
  8. Thanks for the welcome guys! I'm definitely interested.
  9. Hey guys, I'm another XR6 T owner in Darwin, and was interested in meeting up with you guys just to check out your cars, and what mods you've done (what works and what doesn't), what problems (if any) you've come across, what times you get up here, etc. I know I've just missed out on a meet you recently talked about ,here on this forum. But I'll be interested in meeting up on your next meet. I've had my T for a year now. I've added in an SS Inductions CAI and a K&N Filter for performance mods (so far). I've also put in an oil and boost guage, and just to make my car a little more noticeable , I've put on MkII GT stripes (orange on Lightning strike (silver) I like it but realise some don't). I'm not really a regular on this site, but I will keep an eye out for your next meet.
  10. We've been lucky in Darwin for the last couple of weeks, as the temperatures here have dropped a little particularly in the mornings, although we still get up to about 31 degress in the afternoon. It's enough of a drop to notice a performance increase from the T. I really haven't made any attempts to fight the heat and humidity, but I am considering putting on an intercooler water spray kit. But I've heard that it doesn't really make much of a difference. Does anyone have any opinions or experience in this ?
  11. I just recently took my car in for its 3000 km check. Apart from a couple of other things, I found that I have lost a fair amount of power since getting it back from the dealer. When accelerating, I no longer get that "push you in the seat deeper" turbo feel, and the turbo whine is basically non-existent. The engine revs sounds just like a N/A engine. I've had a quick look around to see if I can find any loose piping, but haven't been able to pick anything up. But then I don't really know what I'm looking for. I've used a GTech to measure my times and I'm doing mid 7's for 0 - 100km/h. Which I realise is very poor. Luckily I did one run before the service to compare it to, which I did 6.3s for 0 -100 km/h. My XR6T is only stock. I'm taking it back to the dealer next week for them to look at another minor problem they didn't sort out the first time, so I will definitely raise this problem up with them as well.
  12. Thanks for the replies guys, you've put my mind at rest.
  13. I just recently bought a MkII XR6 Turbo, in Auto. I just have a concern at the moment. Whenever I place the car in PARK, and it rolls a bit while in PARK. Then when I place the car in REVERSE, the car makes a loud 'clunking' sound from about the rear of the car. It is quite loud. I just drove a auto Falcon stationwagon, and it's no where as bad as my XR6T. I was just wondering if any other XR6T owners have the same experience as I do with this particular situation. Is it common? I realise the handbrake will stop the car from rolling while in PARK, but it still seems abnormal to me. Other than this, the car is going great. But it's a concern.
