What is the product called? What sort of place provides it? Thanks.

Chances are, if you look very closely at the glass, that there is no stone chip etc. The damn things just break if your spoiler touches ground ("if"? lol) and so on. Some say the cracks start at the mounting points. I don't know if covers are the answer.....
  3. Yep, 14.5 is good imo. In Sydney traffic I get poorer result, and my overall including some country trips is still 14.6/100
  4. Ooops, just noticed your thread HEADING is BP 95 + Ethanol. BP do it in certain areas. I'd assume this would be closer to a petroleum based 98 RON. Anyway, the info should be useful (and look for the Boost 98).
  5. Here's a few random links in no particular order and buggered if I can remeber why I saved them, so sift through 'em and maybe some are of interest: http://www.deh.gov.au/atmosphere/fuelquali...t/chapter4.html http://www.caltex.com.au/about_news_detail.asp?id=309 http://www.deh.gov.au/atmosphere/fuelquali...anol/index.html http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/portal/alia...topDefault.aspx http://www.aip.com.au/industry/fact_alt_fuels.htm http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20613 http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20354 http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20540 http://www.unitedpetroleum.com.au/location...vid=2&state=NSW
  6. Yeah, that would be United Petroleum. I spoke to the NSW Sales Mgr a few weeks back and he said they were opening, or had just opened in the ACT. Product is "Boost 98". Ethanol has higher RON (& MON) than petroleum based, but less energy per litre (some 30% less I think - but this is only 10% of the mix of course). I think Ethanol has a RON of 105 or 102?. So 'Boost 98' it appears it has higher octane than normal 98 RON fuel, maybe only 2 MON, a bit cheaper, but more litres will be used per kilometre. Heaps of info all around including this forum. Test by (accidentaly released) by MRT in conjunction with Sydney Uni showed Boost 98 provided better dyno results on a specific car - thorough test protocol - than any other of the so called 98 RON fuels. Second place was my long choice, gald to hear it, being Caltex Vortex 98. I will try it when I find it in Sydney (or happen to be near one of the outlets). Probably a good thing to try but you would want to test it with a relevant tune to take advantage of timing issues etc. Here's an article attached. 7. I hate to rain on anyones parade but I would ring NRMA again and ask the same Q's to a different person. I was with NRMA for 25 years and had all my other insurances with them and they knocked me back on the mods. Specifically the lowering. I told them that it was legal and they said it did not matter. They have their own criteria and if it isn't met, too bad. She said if you answer yes to any of the 7 questions then they can't insure. These were to name a few Tyre wider than standard. Something about offset. Lower than 2cm (or 3 - cant remember now) than standard height. At the time I was 43 years old with 60% NCB. Unless they have loosened their criteria in the last 2 years then I would be worried. Remember one thing though mate. You have a duty of disclosure to tell them everything. They don't have to ask. I would have the car inspected by NRMA before I would enter into anything. That way you will be 100% covered if they accept you. Again, I don't want to bring you down but just be real careful. Cheers I have to agree (unfortunately). At age 41 with no point against me, no accident history, driving since 17 I was refused on mods. Main issue? NRMA have a flag on the mod 'catalytic convertor' and you end up getting cancelled. So add that to your list. This was fine by me as I checked it out before the mods and new about it, so I'd already organised AAMI, found it was cheaper then rang up to get cancelled after the mods. No cancellation fee was billed either.
  8. Yep, me too. Had it from 8km in the MKII. Does make you wonder for a while. Slightly more notieable methinks since modded, but still all fine.
  9. Actually, reading your post for about the 5th time it sounds like you already know the auto will shift to 1 even in SSS mode upon slowing to a stop. I think you are saying that: SCENARIO 1: you are using SSS and are travelling in 2, 3 or 4. you stop and gear 1 is automatically selected for you. you attempt to accelerate again and the weird things happen. SCENARIO 2: you manualy select gear 1 in SSS mode when at a standstill you attempt to accelerate and everything is fine. This being the case, something is very wrong!
  10. Having read the problem a few times I'm pretty sure I know what you mean......? Anyway, be totaly assured of one thing. In SSS (manual mode as you call it) if you are in 2, 3 or 4 and stop the box WILL select 1 by design. Put another way: You CANNOT stop in 4, 3 or 2. Despite appearances the box is nothing like a manual box and will not hold gears from shifting down.
  11. They don't. I thought it was just an XR thing, not a MKII thing....so there ya go. Learned something new.

    Aami

I think some of the AAMI mod changes are fairly new? Maybe some of the stories of refusal etc are old? Age does matter and the number of mods is dependant on age. But it seemed REALLY good at any age. Not really sure if this is as new as I think - anyone know? Being 41 at the time, no accident history, driving since 17 (P), no major fines etc etc. Life is easy. Funny, despite a 'perfect' record/age etc NRMA just make decisions based on arbitrary policies - in a big organisation I can understand this - still.....who is the loser. Not me! AAMI are the winner as well.
  13. It is an interesting read if nothing more. Yep, some have posted it before but suprisingly no one has actually commented on the content! You need to read fully to get the whole picture. So on this basis good to see this pdf file posted again. OF NOTE: MRT are freaking out about this report and want us to destory all copies. http://www.mrtrally.com.au/forums/topic.as...511&whichpage=1 It was not released and somebody got their hands on it. I've now noticed it all over the place. Looks like at least one petrol Company won't have their details published in the 'final' report if it ever comes out...

    Aami

Good to see people are happy with AAMI service. I insured my T, July 1 after Phase II mods with them - all documented and all fine. Didn't have to cancel NRMA insurance that I had as they cancelled me when I advised them of the mods - the issue? NRMA will not insure any car with a replacement catalytic convertor FULL STOP (I.e. APS exhaust & cat). I had checked this out already of course and was really happy to be 'cancelled' as AAMI were heaps cheaper anyway. Shannons - more expensive than both and wouldn't insure me in the end as I use the car for work too. Some other mob (Cars Only, or Cars R Us, or something like that) were also extremely expensive. AAMI all the way. Funny thing is my home buildings insurance is due tonight and AAMI are more expensive than NRMA, home contents is due in a few days and the same thing applies. Also for home insurance some of the AAMI clauses look dodgy e.g. insurance for fire is defined as "fire with flames". Read between the lines....this means if the place next door burns down and my house is destroyed by smoke I'm not covered. Then again NRMA have dodgy things too.....
  15. Thanks! Boost 98. I rang Peter Rogers the sales guy for NSW/ACT Rolling out in Sydney as we speak. 3 sites have it: Roselands, Berkshire Park, St Marys. (ACT also just beggining rollout but still have Suttons & Fyshwick on line and some other suburb that sounded like Michelangelo.)
  16. Few posts on this in the mods forum. BP & Caltex/Ampol/Bogas do the E10 fuels - but in QLD and some country NSW. Shell don't make them. So it must be independents & small Company/Franchise retailers. Haven't heard a single station name in Syndey. Anyone?
  17. Power

    Boost 98?

Where do you buy it in Sydney? I probably by 99% of fuel from Caltex or BP and haven't seen any there. The Caltex website has info on the stuff but seems to only mention Country NSW & QLD, so that rules them out.

    Scan Tool

Sound like a bargain. I note that it will work on PC too, so I can use my laptop without forking out for a Palm or PocketPC. Tell me: (1) with the included "SpeedTracer" I saw (you mentioned testing 1/4 mile etc), can it also do metric? I assume so as you mention a 0-100kmh time.... (2) how do you set this up? Does it just ask for parameters like wheel size, tyre details, box ratios etc and then work from RPM or along these lines? I guess the accuracy issue would then be wheelspin. Thanks for this link!!!
  19. Yes, yes, yes.

    Boost 98?

that may be the case but from a tuners point of wview it wont allow me as much timing as mobil 8000 or bp ultimate but will allow me more than optimax vortex and the 95's DW - You are NSW correct? If so, you are saying you have (assume multiple examples) better performance results from BP Ultimate, Mobil 8000 (or whatever they call it) - as compared to Shell Optimax (I hate it) and Caltex Vortex 98 (I'm assuming you mean Vortex 98). Mine was tuned on Caltex Vortex 98 (my choice) based on what meager research was available. I'm MORE than interested in your opinions here so without stealing the thread can you elaborate? Cheers.
  21. Any comments on what lowering does in regard to straight line acceleration? In other words on a drag strip or boy racer from the lights? Does it impact negatively on the ability to shift weight to the rears and get traction? It would be nice to hear from those with experience.....
  22. Regardless of what the warranty may state - and I have no idea what it says and couldn't be bothered even looking: Common Law: Harsh & unconscionable. If they take this approach the whole warranty issue can be voided in your favour. It's not legal in plain English. FFS - The 'T' on my rear turbo badge errrrrm "fell off" the other day and they gave me the whole new badge under warranty. I've also had scratches fixed wayyyyyy after delivery (months). You have a bad egg dealer. NAME THE PRICKS.
  23. Oh yeah, have to add another one they said: - In SSS mode (6 speed SSS is apparently much more 'manual-like' btw) it won't automatically change down through the gears to 1 when you come to a stop and don't change from say 4 in the BA - it will now stop at 2nd gear....
  24. Spoke to my Ford Dealer last night (Service boys). They have all been driving the BF XR6 Turbo, and the rest of the BF series. Comments on the auto where as per our lucky test driver: - smooooooth, no gear change feel at all in normal mode. - much more off the line oomph with the lower ratios, made it feel like the initial lag was gone. - slightly faster on their private test track - lol - simple tests of max speed from standing to point B. - Can spin the wheels through gears stock unlike stock XR6T 4 speed auto. Actually doesn't impress me with 280rwkw....last thing I would want with higher power. - Said something about a 'launch control' as opposed too just traction control - this has me wondering WTF?? - Didn't seem to think interior noise was reduced as per all the advertising. - Other MAJOR improvement stated was handling (again like our lucky test driver stated). The Ford boys said the improvement BA to BF was significant, like the improvement AU to BA!! Apparently the handling is now very neutral and involved some very minor change to shocks, nothing more. They all raved on about this. - Discussed other cars but most interesting comment was that BF XR8 apparently has a much meatier sound (!?) like a bigger CAT. They had no idea why though,
  25. On the dyno my 2005 auto never hit 6psi (when stock). Stock dyno fyi attached.
