Sorry in advance for such a long winded post, but this is as much a document of progression for me as it is sharing with everyone. Starting with a bit of history, in Nov 2012 I bought my 2011 Mk1 sedan manual in Edge from Perth sight unseen and got it floated over to Sydney. First time I saw it, it was being unloaded off the truck, I have to say it was a relief to see I hadn't bought a bomb. First thing was sorting out NSW rego, the process was going well until the papers got entered into the computer. The damn thing got flagged by the cops as being a possible rebirth! Apparently relatively new cars crossing the country gets their attention.. So now I had to get a complete inspection with full VIN and engine number checks cross referenced with Ford. After considerably more money than it should be to register a car in a different state, I finally got it all sorted and started to actually drive it. First trip being a 900km round trip to Wagga and back. Going from a stupidly low liberty, my first impression was wow this car is smooth and quiet, and very quick! I enjoyed driving it so much the only thing I did to the car was get some dark tint. Fast forward 5 months and about 9000km later I decided it was time to start mods. Being very new to the turbo scene I did not know much or where to get the mods done. Taking the advice of a family member who owned a BF GT I was referred to a workshop who had tuned their car much to their satisfaction. With what I wanted and the workshops experience we ended up with a list that consisted of: -Full turbo back X-force SS exhaust 4" to 3.5" -PW battery relocation -PW race air box -PW Stage 2 cooler kit and piping all in black -60lb injectors -Xcal 3 with custom tune My aim was around 300rwkw and the dyno sheet showed 319rwkw which I was very happy with. So far so good.. However the dyno sheet only showed the power curve and no other info, which as my knowledge grew (and I discovered this great forum), I started to wonder about the tune and its other parameters. I also started to hear and read stories of a particular workshop having some unhappy turbo owners with bad tunes (generic and custom) and sure enough, out of all the damn shops that tune fords in Sydney, I had to of gone with said workshop. So now my predicament, what to do? Assume my tune was fine? As it drove well and did not show any signs of anything bad (which I know now does not mean all is ok) After 3000 or so unproblematic kms my paranoia got the best of me. Which brings me to earlier this month.. I had just bought some Tein coilovers from Wholesale and was recommended by Pat to have Joe and the guys at CMS install them as they were the closest shop to me that did some real quality work ( this was not the first time I had heard this either) So the falcon was booked in to get them installed, as well as some Superpro race version rear bushes to tighten up the rear end. After 24000kms the stock diff bush was well and truly past it's used by date, which I think was the day it came off the production line.... Speaking with Joe at CMS about the suspension, I mentioned my concerns about the tune and the shop who did it. Joe said that since I was having a service and the suspension done, that he would run it on his dyno to check the tune, free of charge!! What a top bloke. The results of the run showed my fears were true and lets just say he recommended I come back ASAP for a new tune. Well that new tune came today, and to say I am happy is a true understatement! So figures... Previous tune showed 299rwkw with 19psi!! in the mid tapering to 10 with a lot of torque real early (started to explain why it smoked the tyres so frequent). It also showed a very lean lambda (above 0.9) and some pinging in the top end. Wiping that from the Xcals memory forever, Joe set about some new tunes and this is what he produced: 316rwkw @ 15psi tapering to around 10. Lambda at a nice 0.8. With much more top end than previous and a much smoother ramp up. Also a 300rwkw tune @ a low 10psi. All on 98 by the way. So I am now a very happy and much less worried T owner.. Enough speak, heres some pics: Day I got it Pre coilovers Post coilovers ( conservative height until I decide what wheels I want then I'll drop it over them) New dyno sheet Thanks for reading, if you made it this far without falling asleep.
