The local dealer had a new ego R spec for sale $54,888 drive away last month which went quick. Currently there are dealers in Vic selling them for the same price. FORD is its own worst enemy with car pricing by cutting the price by such extremes only makes residual values crap. Same thing happens with Expensive Daewoo and Ford in that they bring out a model then have a series 1, 2, 3 and everytime this drops the price on the previous versions. When will they wake up and do like the jap manufactures. Mazda for example have had 3 changes to the Mazda 3 line up but never call them a new series. I think this help hold the resale values.

Isn't it funny that all the mods that have been done on this forum appear in the new XR Turbo. Does the forum get credit for the R&D done. New XRTurbo. Increase boost for 6 to 10psi Increased intercooler 50% Reduced air flow restrictions All sound familiar doesn't it

I put the system through its cycles today. Everything still working. Actually got past the front desk and was able to talk to the mechanic who done this dash work before. He believes its not the shaft but an electronics problem. And that it would be pointless brining it in when everything is working properly. I have thought about the shaft might be catching now and then and therefore working but when it works its perfect. So the suggestion is next time it does it to bring it in while it has failed. I was there yesterday but couldn't get past the front desk. Wait and see I guess.

OK it's happened again. Just went to pick up my son and all the dampers changed position when I started the engine. I changed through every possible combination and everything is working perfectly again. Can anyone offer an explanation????????????? I will be cancelling the rip the dash out unless I can get a good explanation from the dealer as to what is happening. To those people who have had the ICC out and changed the shafts please feel free to help.

It all failed again. I know I said it fixed itself on the 28th Dec, but today nothing works. just a whirr in the dash and nothing changes. Booked it in for next Tuesday. They tell me it's a 6 hour job out comes the dash.

Just wondering what members think about the life expectancy of the Turbo motor. My XRT is only 4 years old but I intend to keep it for at least another 2 years. I only have 60,000klm's on the clock at present. Also I don't drive it hard. Do you think these engines, I guess more so the turbo will last 150,000 klm?????

Checked with the Ford extended warranty people today, and yes the fault is covered. BUT, I started the car to go for a drive and heard all the damper controls take up new positions. All fixed by itself. So much for the broken shaft idea. I put the dampers through every cycle and tested them heaps in all combinations. I could not fault the system. Advised the dealer that all apeared to be fixed and cancelled the booking. They did however offer to hold the booking open and investigate the now non existant problem. I though perhaps pulling the dash apart for a look might not be the best thing so I declined the offer.

Rego inspection?? I guess that's a NSW/ACT thing as we don't have those every 12 months in Vic. Of course the PBR would be ADR compliant. I think you must have got the wrong guy on the day. Is there anywhere else you can go to get the inspection done? I know this doesn't help but I think it's rediculous that someone could say they don't comply.

Started the car and went change the air vent direction via the pushbuttons and nothing happened. Never had this problem happen before. So the vents are all at face level and will not change to any other position. Visited the local dealer and I was told it could be looked at next week, and there's a shaft that breaks, common problem. So book it in next week to have it fixed. As I was leaving the service guy came out and told me their other workshop it not as busy and they might be able to look at it earlier. So I rang the other workshop and recieved the same story, there is a shaft which is plastic and it would have broken and it now gets replaced with a steel version on all later models. And that its a all day job as a fair amount of the dash has to be removed to replace it. I have since booked it into the closest dealer to get it looked at next week. Given that Ford know this is a common problem then I guess they will do all the work for free. HA HA HA. This will be the first test for the extended warranty I bought with the car, as it's now nearly 4 years old.

Did you use a high rated brake fluid. I know PBR specify their GOLD Dot fluid and that's what was used in mine and Ive never had any signs of fade. Im about to take the car in for its next service and will be providing them with the gold dot fluid.

Recently borrowed a trailer and drove it straight home on cruise control without problem. Next day I reversed it out of the drive and when I reached the highway there was no cruise control. I pulled over turned the engine of removed the keys, then keys back in and got going again still no cruise. Thanks to talk on this forum I remembered that there might be more than just the cruise. In the back of the mind Im thinking brake lights. I returned the trailer and sure enough NO brake light either. I then started to go trough the owners manual, and guess what there is NO reference to a fuse for the cruise control or the brake lights. So the only choice was to start pulling fuses. I guessed it may be a 15 amp so on the 6th fuse I pulled it was blown. Why do FORD have an owners manual that doesn't list the most essential fuses. Your right because there FORD that's why. I complained to the customer relations department who said all I had to do was to phone a dealer and they would have told me which fuse free of charge.

Not knowing how load you call a clunk. I recently had a steering noise fixed on my T. Just took it in thinnking Ford will want the car another day, but to my surprise they fixed it there and then. The mechanic started the engine me by the front gaurd him in the door opening, turned the steering wheel left and right and I could hear the clunk. Easy fixed he said. Onto the lift under he went and returned the car to me. He said all they do is to loosen the fixed point of the steering rack and retighten it. All fixed.

Battery Gets Drained Overnight Every Night
ColinT replied to walkerstreet's topic in Electrics Workshop
Cant believe its any of the above lights being on overnight. My battery is over 3 years and I know my interior lights have been left on (door ajar) recently overnight without any problems the next day. Interior lights and additional footwell lights. I would say it is an internal fault in the battery. Be quick though batteries only get a 12 month warranty. -
Looking around for 234/45/17 myself. I have been recommended, the Yokohama C Drive and the Bridgestone Adrenaline. Both tyres have near identical tread patterns, or at least the tread layout in similar. Price wise $235 to $265 per tyre.

A RWC is not compulsory if the car is sold without rego plates. The only thing I would consider is that the klm's are starting to get a bit long. Says there is the Ford extended warranty. This is more than likely due to run out at 160,000 klm's so not much left as a selling point. As for the typical BA problems, brakes, radiator replacement and perhaps diff some of these may have been fixed under the 1st owner therefore she wouldn't know about them. As was mentioned get a RACV check done for peace of mind. At that price it's worth investing a few $$ with the RACV.

Just a word of warning before pulling out throttle bodies. I have had 2 TPS's replaced under warranty. When replacing the 2nd TPS one of the studs snapped in the body and had to drilled out. I know this is what some of you would expect from some Ford mechanics, but I thought I would mention this just as a caution for others. Of course we wouldn't force a tight stud would we.

I know the dealers pre fill the production line with orders, so it will depend I guess when Ford actually included the extras. I hope you have a win with all the extras they have now included. I was annoyed that I just missed out on getting the luxury pack cause I was 2 weeks early with my order.

Thanks guys I never thought that he would be quoting in HP. I do know that another mate who owns a XR8 was damn impressed and even agreed it would leave him for dead now.

Had a mate just have his BF XR Turbo edited with a CAPA edit box and the generic tunes that came with it. Has installed 2nd cold air intake and panel filter otherwise the engine bay is stock.. Now claims and has Dyno graphs showing he gets 340 RWKW. I can't belive this given other threads on this forum. Afterall you only have to look at what Nizpro and HPF have to do to achive this sort of RWKW. So whats the max you can get on a generic tune with no change of injectors.

Hi all, Problem I have with living in Victoria and the daughter is in Newcastle, is I can't do those father problem fixes for her. She went to the RTA and change the rego from Vic to NSW. They gave her new plates and took the old ones. Problem now is none of the holes in the plates line up with those provided in the bumper bars. So she has one plate on the dash and the other on the parcel shelf until she can get this fixed. Is there any member in Newcastle that can drill some holes tomorrow Sunday for her. She has to work Monday and Tuesday so she has to risk driving till she can get to the Expensive Daewoo dealer. Send me a PM and I'll let he know how to contact you. Colin

I think braided hoses are about $50 each. I think one of the wreckers (FTG) had them for $280 for the set. Love the way this months RACV mag mentions the recall. Symptoms are a soft pedal and the accompanied warning light. but the car will still stop OK. As if you would consider ignoring warning lights in the first place. But just as a matter of course take the vehicle to a Ford dealer for repair. I think it should be up to Ford to do this as an immediated and written recall to all owners.

Extracts from Articles I kept when the XR6T first came out The background of Ford Australia's Gordon Barfield: "I've been in Ford for over thirty years. My most recent experience from about 1995 is time with Tickford, or FPV as it is now, as the program manager and planner; so I've been involved in all the XR products all the way from EL, GTs and T-series. I was involved in getting the turbo engine and the 4-valve V8 up and running - it was my involvement really that made it all happen. Ford say the XR6T manual is good for lugging up to 1200 kilograms, while the auto version is rated anywhere up to 1600 kilograms. "The only issue we had with the location we went for - at the front - was whether we were going to compromise the air conditioning and cooling performance. It's also a very difficult pipe run to get underneath the headlight and back again. "We did a lot of engine cooling, air-conditioning and towing tests with the intercooler in position and decided to limit the towing load to 1600kg - whereas the standard Falcon can go to 2300kg. We didn't see that the owners of these vehicles would be pulling huge caravans - more like ski boats and things like that." The XR6 Turbo is fitted with the V8-spec coolant radiator and fan - is that to compensate for the airflow restriction posed by the intercooler or simply a requirement of the turbocharged engine? "It's because of the engine output - whenever you start making power and torque you make a lot of heat. Working with our radiator manufacturer, we were able to calculate the XR6 Turbo's heat rejection requirement was within the capability of the V8 radiator. That's why we used it." But as to answer your question I have towed more than 1600kgs comfortably, with the torque in the perfect rev range you would have to expect that. I must admit though when I was going up some steeper hills and changed back a gear myself the engine temp did increase from 3/8 to 5/8 of the gauge.

As you can see by my Avatar I gave the Ford Std brakes the flick first time the shudder started. I still have my car serviced but the local dealer. I guess I will have to be carefull they dont replace the braided PBR hoses on the rear with Ford hoses. Of course the Technician is smart enough to realise the difference. Just like I have to supply the PBR brake fluid to have it changed when required.

Mate at work had his heater core replaced 2 months out of warranty and it cost him nothing, Ford came to the party. EXCEPT, the dealer decided to remove the front seats to clean and dry the carpets. When the passanger seat was removed the mechanic scraped it down the rear door. Mate was not impressed.

Took the XRT to the local garage to have an intermediate oil change done seeing as it's too hard for the local Ford dealer to quote. I provided the oil and filter. When I went back the mechanic shows me the "AIR FILTER" they replaced????? What the????? Why were you even looking at the air filter? While the oil was draining they decided to clean the air filter and give a general check over. When they looked the air filter had squashed at one end and wasn't sealing. So I could see why they replaced it when they showed me. Replaced by Ford 7,200klm's ago. Then I thought I'm outa pocket $28 for a filter. Went to the Dealer who firstly looked up when and who replaced the filter. He then went to spares and gave me a new filter to take back to local garage so I wouldn't be charged. Then went looking for their mechanic who did the work. Also the local mechanic who worked on the car wanted to know when I was selling the car bacause he would be very interested. Colin
