  1. Found this article on the Autoweb site. A new Rossini grooved front rotor, designed in the US and supplied by PBR, incorporates pillar-style internal venting under license from Brembo. The front rotors are 325mm in diameter and 32mm thick, compared to 298mm and 28mm on the standard BA Falcon. The rear rotors are also grooved.

    Fuel Savers

As I mentioned in an earlier post I used the Dyno-tab fuel saving tablets in the wifes Mazda 323. They do work. The result was 0.4 lt/100klm less than usual. This was over 3 tank fulls. But when you worked this out taking the cost of the tablet ($3.50) into account I saved $1.20 on a tank full 60lts. For the extra mucking around with the correct amount of tablet and fuel ratio each fill I'm not going to bother continuing.
  3. Glad you found a solution that you were happy with. I know the complications you have to gone through in trying to work out the best solution. Not easy to be able have a rotor and pad that you know will go together. I have gone through a similar decission myself recently. I'm waiting to have the PBR performance kit fitted this week, not by Ford even though the car is still under warranty. Nice choice of car to give the wife, makes me wonder what you are going to by that would be better than the XR? Regards
  4. Perhaps Ford should make all XR owners join the forum, then we will know who it is each time someone spots another impressive XR on the road.
  5. This link takes you to the details, the rotors do have a spiral groove which is different to my PBR's. http://www.fpv.com.au/index.asp?link_id=2.472 When you go to this link you will see PBR on the calliper Click on Configure and price Click on F6 Typhoon Click on next page and there in the middle is a picture that says PBR performance brakes standard. It would still pay to check with PBR or DBA though.
  6. Just priced the DBA-42104, this is the replacement for the Ford rotors. All my prices are from Bursons as I have always found Repco dearer. The DBA-42104 are $220 each. If you check the Ford site you will see the exact PBR kit pictured that Ford use, except in red.
  7. Yes they do. If you have a look at the picture on the Herrod site its the PBR kit. Amberley Autos (a known name on this forum, HP-Factory ) gave me a price fitted and it was less that $2500 Herrod want for the kit. For my own inerest I checked with PBR, their part numbers for the performance slotted rotors are K388-033 Left K388-034 Right These are still $290 each.
  8. Have you priced the PBR replacement parts for the front from Repco or Bursons? I wouldn't go anywhere near Ford for parts, as they only come from PBR. As I mentioned in another thread I bought the full PBR Performance Kit (PK8) for $1885 from Bursons 2 days ago. Repco wanted $2700 over the counter for the same thing. Have you another choice than Repco. Ford at the time of building the car want $2995 for the PBR Kit in blue.
  9. Just went to the Autobarn web site did a search on 3m and come up with the article listed below. New “Invisible” Headlight Covers Keep Stone Chips Away

    Fuel Savers

Well the Vaporate is fitted and the additional power is awesome. Well at least psychologically. The only problem they when installing had was to access the intake manifold support bolts. I had a look no wonder they were a problem. The intake manifold gasket had to be changed to an aluminium gasket that came with the kit. The vaporate needs heat to be conducted to the tip of the injector and the old gasket was an insulating type. It took 3 hours for the kit to be installed so I'm glad I wasn't paying for the labour. I'll fill the tank tonight at start recording the usage.
  11. The wifes Mazda 323 broke the same light. Tt the time was told by the dealer that I would need to buy a pair as they don't come seperately and they are a different shape for either side. Unlike the XRs.. It turns out some Mazdas you have to buy both. Mine cost $137 for the single. Sorry to hijack the thread but, can anyone tell me honestly that the fog lights illumination can be seen by the driver. I live in an area where we get regular foggy nights and days and the fog light do nothing they seem to point down too low. On the other hand the wifes Mazda gives a great low light to the side and the front.

    My Cooler

My thoughts are the same when I saw how low the cooler sits. I soon learn't VERY early, the first week, what I could and couldn't drive up. Different approach with mounting forward of the cross member. Must admit though it looks great. I always like uniform looking items, unlike the lop sided intercooler I have now.

Well had a win with the Vaporate. I'm having it fitted for free on Friday as the distributor in our area wants a few on road test vehicles to help promote the product. I went in today to enquire and was asked if I wanted to participate. It takes about 2 hours to fit to a BA because the inlet manifold gasket has to be replaced. I will keep the Forum informed as to the results.

    BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

The car went in today and I was told that 2004 vehicles don't qualify for new brake pads when the rotors are machined. I contacted Ford when I got home because I thought they were. I left a message with Ford and a reply came in about an hour. The person informed me that there were a small number of 2003 vehicles within a VIN number range that had a problem with brake shudder. My vehicle would be machined but Ford had fixed the brake shudder issue in 2004 vehicles so the pads don't get replaced. It turns out the Dealer had also contacted Ford because he thought pads were included. He told me that after nearly an hour of discussion he got no where. Ford also said since when do dealers tell the customers what is contained in technical briefs. My dealer said he wasn't going to lie if he is asked the questions.
  15. Sorry about the damage. I have seen this a couple of times where an ABS eqiped car has been hit by something isn't equiped with ABS. But in saying that, ABS will still not pull up any quicker than normal breaks if they are used correctly. I have had this proven to me at a driver training facility, all beit on a dry road. ABS looses out as soon as it starts comming into action because it releases the wheels momentarily. It does give the driver the confidence to push the pedal harder though. So if the other driver was more attentive and had left a gap appropriate to their responce time and the condition of the vehicle they shouldn't have hit you.
  16. I thought I was doing well to 26,000klm before the shudder issue. I have seen on forums pictures of the cracking on the tread and sidewalls. Does this mean Ford and Dunlop are now taking responsability for these faults? Great to get another set for free. I will be looking to try something quieter when I eventually get to the end of the original tyres. I noticed the new BF claimed to have quieter tyres, I wonder what they run? Anyway glad someone has good service from a dealer.
  17. I have found quite a few suggestions for the other slots, such as; 98 RON tune 95 RON tune 92 ROn tune Car service tune, rev limiter set to 4000 Wife tune, a bit less power Economy tune I will have to make my choices soon but will be guided by the tuner.
  18. Didn't Peter Brock have one of these??????? Sorry that was the Polariser, HaHa

    Premium Brakes

Just what I didn't want to hear, but atleast they don't shudder. I am about to install the PBR Performance barke Kit which is the Ford premium brakes. To get rid of the shudder and avoid the Ford fix, aggressive pads to keep wearing the rotors when they start to warp. I couldn't believe it when I priced the kit from Repco $1920 + fitting ~$200, because Ford charge $2950 to have it done on the production line. Except Ford calipers are blue and PBR are flame red. I have been told by other members on this forum how I will notice quite a differenance. Once the go slow bits are installed then comes the go fast bits. Colin

    Window Tint

Never had a problem with tinted windows from the police or insurance company in the past 25 years. The local tint place can advise you how dark you can go and still remain legal.

    BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

This is exactly what I was told. If you put DBA rotors on of the same diameter and thickness they will warp because of the heat. that's another reason I went for the PBR kit and the rotors are 325x32mm instead of 298x28. Pad area 73.1cm instead of 71 also. Ordered the kit this morning, pick it up next week then fitting to be done. Colin
  23. True about the search. If this was improved people would be able to find the info in past posts and that could stop repeat threads. Other forums when you search you get a list of the threads the seach critera was found in, then you can go to the relevent post. Currently this seach gives you every post in every thread so you have to look through everything to find the topic you want. All these suggestions will go to make the forum better.
  24. I think dividing the mod's section and others sections into sub catagories would help.

    BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

have been hearing from all the brake guru's that it is inherant with the design of the vehicle. The pads are too long for the 2 piston calipers, the disc assembly sits in the wrong place in to get adequate cooling and the original rotors are made from crap material that can't take the heat. To rectify the faults then the complete system has to be replaced. So the full PBR Performance Kit (PK- will be going on ASAP.
