  1. why does everyone pick on k31th?
  2. Always better to be safe than sorry. when I have the rear on stands I still keep the trolley jack there with a little weight on it and front wheels chocked.
  3. They are 200mm wide, though you will need something to chock behind the tyre to stop it rolling backwards. I'm going back to autObarn tomorrow to look at the plastic items that fitted in the slots of the ramp. They were $17 and I thought that was a bit pricy for plastic chocks. But if they look like they will be more functional than a piece of timber, Ill buy them.
  4. So very true, in my travels I have been to over 50 country's.(not bragging) Every time I return to Australia I love this sunburnt land more and more. This is still the lucky country. In some countries I have been so shocked by how little people survive on. Brought to tears on occasion. It really pisses me off when someone complains to me about being hard done by. I'm like, "fu#ken suck it up princess, try surviving in India or Guatemala" 2016, be thankful (and happy) you live in a country where the vast majority have a job and a place to live.
  5. Thanks GeGe6 autObarn had them on special for $40 (100mm lift)
  6. what do you jack from at the front?
  7. Thanks guys. I changed the oil and filter yesterday, and I still don't have a way of raising the front to make access easier. raising the back is no prob, jack rear and place stands either side, but I don't have any central jack point for the front and these ramps look the business.
  8. Bloody hell Rab, I'm salivating
  9. where did you buy those plastic ramps? I want some
  10. you're making me hungry
  11. I'm a Star Wars fan, can still remember seeing the trailer in 1977 while standing inline at a movie theater (I was 12 years old). Can still remember the thrill of the trailer and thinking at the time that I just had to see that movie, it looked like nothing I had ever seen before!!!!!! This is a bit of a spoiler, so if you haven't seen the movie stop right here. Fast forward 38 years,me and my wife went and saw "The Force Awakens" on Monday BTW, IMO, the force did not awaken at all. The intro was like going back 38 years, which I thought was just to relive the original movie, back then it was totally amazing, but now space being a lot of small white dots (all the same size) definitely looks dated. Again, the 1977 movie gave a real feeling that the imperial star destroyer was massive as it came onto the screen like it was passing the movie theater over head, filling the whole screen from side to side as it chased Princess Leia's ship. The force (that never) awakens, shows a similar opening scene, but the bottom of the massive ship is in darkness so you loose all perspective of its size and detail. For me, the film had so much potential, but failed to deliver, like the opening scene, there were many times in the movie where it lacked the quality that should have been there. In this day and age of high definition clarity that we can see even on our TV's at home, it was disappointing not to see this on the big screen. In 1977 they spent 11 million, 38 years on, they spend 200 million. IMO, with all that money spent it was a little bit of a disappointment that not only the graphical content lacked, but the story line was so similar to the original, the Empire builds a planet destroying weapon, the rebels destroy it just in time. Even down to the (almost) last rebel fighter flying into the said weapon to destroy it. Don't get me wrong, It was still a "good" movie, just not great like it should have been. I'm sure a 12 year old boy would have been amazed by it. Being 51, I'm a little bit more critical, I still had the excitement and expectation as I walked in to the theater, arms full of the largest popcorn and drink I could buy. I left the movie theater feeling a little bit cheated.
  12. Yes, chromecast 2 is out, its $70 to $80 if you can find one. still cant beat $38
  13. check this out Panda http://www.techradar.com/au/reviews/gadgets/portable-video/chromecast-2013-1171126/review Edit: its an old review, but still gives you the idea, there must be more apps by now (one of the negatives)
  14. Sure does, just download the app to your mobile device (and subscribe to netflix)
  15. So I was looking for alternatives for my media center while I wait for my new motherboard and case to arrive. Chromecast is $38 at hardly normal. (on sale till Jan 3) I'm very surprised how well it works. There is alot of free stuff out there, just download the app to your tablet/phone/laptop and away you go. Was watching Red Bull TV yesterday, streaming HD content with ease. All you need is a spare HDMI slot in your TV, and a WiFi signal and you're laughing.
  16. I have given up on FB. deleted my account about 6 months ago. I now just use CarBook (fordxr6turbo.com) Most of the people here are reasonably sane
  17. when the garage door opener broke last month my wife went looking through all our house reno stuff to find when it was installed. While looking for that she found our kitchen install and come to the conclusion that they had ripped us off on the island bench by about 400mm. so I surprised her with this for Christmas. I made the stainless frame at work and had the caesarstone top done for a cashie I made it 850mm long, so it nearly doubled the work area I think she really liked it, tears welled up in her eyes
  18. Light blows on the range hood Christmas day, trips power, no worries, remove globe, reset breaker, all good. Saturday I go to watch the Star Wars movies on my media center, it doesn't work. Test for fault - - - - - - - - - - - - - motherboard is cacti. Stupid bloody sensitive electronic equipment! But all is not lost, I wanted to upgrade to a smaller box that is black to match all other entertainment electronic boxes, but needed to by a micro ATX motherboard. Problem solved. just have to wait till after the break to get my parts.
  19. it struggles to cool me when it matters the most, ie: it failed to do the job it was intended for. LOL
  20. Wow, that's bazaar, I used to sleep walk when I was a teen, woke up in my older sisters bed once (she was still in it) Man I am sooooooooooooo glad I was not like that weird bloke Jet
  21. So, what you're saying is, the actual time that you need it the most, it fails.
  22. Our aircon use is relativity low for where we live (the tropics) Our house has large balcony's front and rear (east and west) so there is no direct sunlight on any windows or walls for more than an hour or so morning and afternoon. We re-roofed and had some good insulation installed between the roof framing and the color-bond, which basically stops the heat from entering the roof space. It is large open plan with the hallway having floor to ceiling louvers at each end acting as a breezeway. as a consequence the house is relatively cool in the summer. But if you are familiar with the tropics, aircon is a must, especially for sleeping. I always thought that aircon was expensive to run, but I think that was due to the old conventional unit we had prior to our reno. we have a summer here that can have oppressive heat. The temps don't really make it up that high (in Australian standards) the average summer temp is only 31.5 its the humidity which is the killer. The summer season (when we need aircon) runs from November to March. During that 5 months we have our master bedroom aircon running aprox 10 hours every night The next user would be the study, 2 or 3 hours a day, more in the weekends. last would be the lounge/kitchen area, possibly only 2 or 3 times a week (mostly weekends) only for a couple of hours each time. The splits we have are Fujitsu inverters and with the above usage are very cheep to run. Our power bill for the summer period comes in at $150 to $200 higher than the winter period! Natural airflow through the house can be a very important factor to keep the power bill down. I also now know the modern inverter aircon are very efficient compared to the older conventional type. I am not familiar with ducted cooling because most homes here are single story concrete block on slab. But I would assume that with "zoning" you could cool only 1 or 2 rooms at a time , keeping the cost down. Natural airflow was not something I really thought about until it was brought up by our draftsman/designer, but now realize it is a very important consideration in design. So having said all that, I'm curious what people spend on their aircon.
  23. my mother in law lives in Melbourne, I lived in Melbourne for 2 years. evap cooling, ^^^what he said^^^
