  1. FPV tranny- I always thought the same, but I guess in this case, if it is indeed what most think it is and it's still going strong, it's actually a fairly good buy? raband- yep for sure, nothing sticks out that would make it too hard (esp if you know a rwc guy ) but I will be sure to ask. BiZkets- lol I don't have all my heart set on this, I definitely have fg on the list, so if this doesn't work out I'll be on to the next one, weather it's an fg or whatever
  2. Spinning, spot on mate! I'm a very cautious buyer as I've bought 1 lemon years ago and swore I'd never be blasè about modded cars again.
  3. Princess Sally- sorry to hear that, but I'll be doing all the checks prior to handing over the $ Panda- yeah I thought the same, but I guess he listed what he thought was most important, it's a fairly low key ad all up really. I'll speak to him today
  4. Backmarker- Lol dammm! Now I won't sleep till I sus this thing out properly! I'm going to call him tomorrow and sus it all out. Seems like a good price regardless of weather it is ex Nizpro considering the brakes alone are worth $6-7k. But yeah if it is the one and he sounds like a genuine guy, I might have to properly consider this thing! Can't wait ?? Backpacker- how long ago would you remember going for a spin in it. I ask because I'm curious how long ago it was all built and how much longer the life of the motor and other components etc I'd have left? Could be talking 8-10 years highly modified potentially?
  5. All really solid advice so far! General consensus is to REALLY go trough it with a fine tooth comb. Given that I'm in Melbourne, it makes the process all that much trickier....but I'll do my ball busting from over here and have it checked out by state roads or try and hook up someone close by from the forums to have a look (paid of course). Steve r- I probably wouldn't notice either tbh. VippiN- as mentioned I would be rego/rwc in Melbourne... seems pretty subtle to look at so I'm guessing with some people I know, I should get the RWC ok providing its properly done like you said, and the no oil leaks and loose fitting/crap parts etc. The brakes are AP btw, but I get what you mean regarding exxy parts, they're exxy to maintain... but I'm willing to cop that. And the screen doesn't bother me lol, if it all checks out, I really won't care what's in the interior loll
  6. Yeah wasn't dissing the 34r rims locky, I know their value well....I'm an import lover lol. But as far as 18" forged rims with decent width/ offset go, they are well priced, going for as low as 1400 now. I'll ask about fitment, cheers for the tip! Ralph, lol ok will do. I'm guessing the leaf springs are gone if it's the one?
  7. Just did a large reply and it failed :( The gist of what I replied...... Spinning- great reply mate, definitely will delve deep with the questions when speaking to the seller! I have a good radar for genuine sellers and sellers that are hiding something lol Ralph Wiggum- Wow you have me a little keener now! Will definitely get him to shoot me through a lot more info including the rear sus. What was Nizpro's set-up? Will get in touch with Nizpro as well. Bonjaz- very good thought to keep in mind, I'd allow for myself to have $3-4k sitting there ready for general maintenance and tuning on top of the purchase price, as yes indeed, it is an older vehicle now even if it has some tough components in it
  8. Hey guys, just putting it out there as it seems like a pretty good package for the $ Please view this ad: xr6 turbo ute, http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/maggea/cars-vans-utes/xr6-turbo-ute/1042053443 Price: $ 17,000.00 Download the application from the Google Play Store. http://goo.gl/7NzhP Things that I notice straight away that have me curious: -Fpv front bar, xr8 bonnet....possible front end smash? -Fpv dash....possibly not genuine kms? - Obviously not factory 6 speed....Will it matter with rego/rwc etc? -Brakes are high end....are they exxy to maintain? -Built motor....what should I ask him (it'd be my first xr6t) - Not an issue but lol @ the r34 GTR rims! Obviously a cheap way to get forged rims that clear the brakes, looks awesome imo. Any feedback would be great! Cheers sw
  9. LOL ^ What are they again, I only ride Harley Davidsons??? So I'm pretty much hearing what I thought I'd hear from you guys.....which is probably the advice that I would give if the roles were reversed. The BA 1 in almost all circumstances will need $$ spent on it, and although I never skimp on servicing and upkeep, I'd hate to be hit with 2 or 3 decent sized repairs that I'd have to do soon after purchasing. I doubt I can get away with a totally trouble free 10 or so year old turbo car no matter which path I choose, rex, stagea, legnum, XR6T, but I lust after that 4 litre turbo the most, and the fact that some 'just' fit in my price range tempts me to go ahead with one anyway, and hope for the best lol Nobody commented on the one I linked....any thoughts?? I'd do a fully comprehensive vehicle test on any car I plan to purchase for piece of mind. If the white one check out as a good example, as in genuine km's, straight body, mechanically sound with service history etc, would there be any reasons that any of you could think of (besides things already listed in previous posts) to not go for it??? Keep in mind, I'm not after big power, and I drive pretty easy 90% of the time. I have an R1 for the crazy stuff
  10. Hey guys, new to the forums and after some honest feedback from all of you experienced with the fantastic barra! Straight to the point, I have a budget of MAX $13k to spend on my next car. Now initially, I was adamant it would be an older rex, either a '99 or '01. I was certain to find a good one within that price range, as I'm pretty fussy and would rather spend a bit more to get a good example rather than going tight and 'just' scrapping in to a later model for the same cash. Now that brings me to my big question to you guys.......can I get away with spending $12-13k on a first gen XR6T and have it treat me well, or am I better off to save more (hard atm) and get a minimum BF with the 6 speed man, as opposed to the BA's 5 speed. I know the BA 2 is a 6 speed, but many of them exceed $13k too, unless it has 150000km's +, which will inadvertently have it's issues anyway. AHHHHHH, I'm lost, please, any feeddback would be much appreciated. I'll link an example I'm very keen on for a guide to what I 'may' purchase if I do decide XR6T. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/ford-falcon-2003-14543727 Note, I treat my cars well, I rarely snap through gears, and only occasionally give it some decent revs. My cars tend to have a pretty easy life. The most I'd do mod wise is basic breather mods like exhaust, filter, and tune. Not chasing much more than 300kw at the motor
