  1. Well I picked the big girl up today..... Fault codes included Over boost, Immobiliser , And both cams advanced. And sure enough both cams had jumped one tooth... LUCKLY no damage was done. Cant praise Andrew from pro automotive enough the bloke is so thorough and makes the effort to ensure everything is spot on. and got away with only a $390 bill... so can't really complain We even put her on the dyno bog stock making well........ a bog stock 242 at the wheels hahah. But she is back home now running like a dream... super pump as I even picked up my new suspension on the way home ! A Good Friday. Cheers for all your help everyone.
  2. No I sure wont be doing anything myself. It will be going back into another shop Tuesday. The guy that runs this one apparently knows his stuff. So looking forward to some light being shed
  3. Yep not long after giving it a squirt. But its definitely not making any scary sounds.. hopfully no damage is done. It sounds exactly like it has gone into failure mode. So it looks like il be up for a cam timing sensor.
  4. hahah, yeah I am no mechanic myself but have a fair handle on it, was definitely a little apprehensive on the 91 idea. so I only put $20.00 in whilst my tank was fairly low, Thinking well... its a cheep fix if it does work. As for the case of having this kind of problem for three years, I do feel pretty safe that my engine will not throw a leg out of bed in the next week or so haha, in saying that its F***ing annoying and am keen to have it gone ! Thanks for your help so far everyone.
  5. Yeah well that's the other thing from what I could find it might be, another guy I saw had a faulty Cam sensor. Maybe this could be the problem.. Preying it doesn't come to me having to come to the mainland.
  6. Hahah, well that's kinda what I wanted to hear, definitely don't rate running 91. And definitely not being rude guys.. he is no mate. Im down in Tassie, I went to ford first but when asking to speak to some one that actually knew these engines they just precoded to try and sqeeze money out of me. so yeah recommendations would be awesome !
  7. Yeah the mechanic used his scan tool, said all he could find was the advanced timing. and yeah stays consistently rough basically the whole time on idle. if you hold a small amount of revs on it will idle fine.
  8. 2009 so out of warranty. and yeah I can imagine, was hoping someone had the exact same problem ha.
  9. Hey guys ! So I recently purchased my FG XR6 Turbo, It is bone stock only 40,000ks with a mature previous owner. now after only just getting it home and pulling up at the local service station only to notice that my MIL or engine light was on, and the idle had become very rough, consistently reving as if I was driving a v8 with a very lumpy cam. So I took it to my mechanic and he said that the timing had advanced its self to far, and suggested to run 91 octane fuel so it would pick up on the nocking and pull the timing back its self.. now I have given a small amount 91 (not wanting to put to much through) with no luck as of yet. Has ANYONE has this problem before? or can anyone shed some light on the possible Issue, as it is driving me insane. Thanks heaps !
