who said anything about increaseing the boost beyond the level that the afr's are set to in the custom tune...? im talking about dropping the boost down to get traction off the line then bringing it back up to the max level the tune is set for...can u set the sct software to run lower boost based on time or engine rpm then increase it to the preset max level? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not from the method you suggested, however there are other ways to control torque outputs and throttle control that are gear dependant. All this can be done via the SCT software. Launch control and torque capping relative to rpm and gearing has been around for years with the LS1 tuning software.

Seriously, why spend $800 - $1000 on a tuning box, another $200 to $???? on custom tuning, and then add an adjustable boost controller? Technically, once the tune is set for a boost level and AFR's are adjusted for the desired boost level, altering the boost level from that point will cause the mixtures to become leaner or richer. The SCT software does fuel mapping from TPS counts, not MAP. Therefore, increasing boost from the original tune will lean the mixture, reducing it will richen it up. Isn't the point of having 3 slots to run 3 different tunes?

Yeah, but I won't. Have to leave my agenda at the door Nice result Ben. Care for another tune perhaps from someone different again

Guys, it's all in good spirit. Nothing like a bit of rivalry to keep things honest. The clutch and tyres will be sorted soon
-
Yeah, mine was one of them. It seems the organic clutch doesn't like 4000rpm launches loading the driveline with the hand brake. Time for the semi-metallic clutchplate now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> what clutch you running? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mal Wood Automotive Stage 3 clutch kit. I spoke to Mal this morning, explained what happened, and he provided me with a solution. Should have the new centre late next week.

Stock exhaust? I thought you fitted either a different dump pipe and/or cat plus the Typhoon intercooler, plus tuning and boost mods as well as per a previous thread you started? Either way, I had no intention of going to the drags earlier on during the week, so I filled the car with Vortex Gold on Tuesday. I actually tried draining the tank before the drags but I couldn't. However, I now know how the car runs on it's daily driven 95 ron tune. As per my previous comment, I will have another go, with the wastegate actuator replaced, running 15 - 18 psi boost (hopefully the engine won't become a rod-chucker), fixed clutch and decent tyres. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It has a dump and cat but stock exhaust, it had a F6 intercooler, (still half the size of yours) Obviously tuning But I mean it did also run a 12.9 @112 with just injectors and a tune.. Stock everything else so a dump and cat and F6 intercooler have added 2 mph and dropped it 7 tnths. Not bad considering it hasnt been dynoed yet..... But that wasnt really relevant to my original question lol <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey Simon, how much boost you push through this 'shopping trolley'? 15-18psi? How do you determine the safety level of the tune when you don't dyno it? Seat of the pants feeling? Quick trash around the block with the wideband stuffed in the exhaust? How do you check for pinging etc? Not stirring, just curious. Obviously I must be missing something with my tuning methods using a dyno and scanning tools.

Gotta agree that the auto's will usually be quicker than the manuals. My VT LS1 auto ran 13.13 @ 104mph; yesterday I ran 13.245 @ 111.38mph, 2.24 60ft time. Auto's are easier to launch and more consistant.

So too does the manual when you flat shift!

Well done guys. I ran a 13.28 @ 111.9mph with the 11.5psi tune on 95 oct fuel. The clutch smoked up on my 4th run, trying to launch at 4000 rpm, so I gave it a rest. Hopefully I'll have the clutch sorted out soon and come back running better tyres and a more aggressive tune in a few weeks time with a stronger wastegate actuator. The terminal speed indicates the car is capable of running faster times - but I have to learn how to launch it after being used to driving an auto for so many years. My mate ran 12.82 in his auto, but he trans (auto) lost 3rd gear. Was a good night.

Centre Ford - I'd highly recommend them. I bought my car off Dave Sammit. Excellent service. I actually test drove a Rapid XR6T 6speed auto demo from them yesterday - bloody brilliant. Now I'm considering trading the M6 for the A6. Decisions, decisions.

I know for certain that Chipmaster and D & T in Perth do a bucket load of tuning on BA's. You'll find this poll is only a small snap-shot of what really goes on.

I'm going. Just need to decide whether I fly and out or drive there and back. Amity Travel is doing a shuttle service from Perth Domestic Airport for $75 including entry tickets. Details are: Posted: Wed Oct 19, 2005 10:30 pm Post subject: Pearce Airshow Charter Flights -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Looking for a cheap, fun way to make the very most of the Pearce Airshow. Luke Chittock has organised some charter flights with Skippers Aviation for both days of the show, Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th November - A great way to avoid the traffic problems associated with 50,000 odd visitors arriving and departing at the same time! Flights will depart Skippers around 0915, returning back to Perth around 1630. The show is scheduled to start at 1000, finishing around 1530. Cost is $75.00 per person including the entry fee.If you've already paid for your entry then no problem - we'll deduct that cost from the cost. Aircraft choice will include the Dash8, Brasillia and possibly the Metro. We can take your preference, but the aircraft type cannot be firmed up until the day of departure. Bookings close 9th November, see Luke Direct. I tuned my own car with my own software, but share my tuning results with Barry from Ford Performance Tuning. Frankly, boost surge was the number 1 reason why I bought my own software so I could fix the surging it suffered from the previous tuning attempts.
-
One has to wonder why no boost graph is posted. Good to see people are free-er with AFR's being posted. Here's one I prepared earlier for my 95 Caltex Vortex tune showing before and after tune results
-
I'm up for it, seeing it's the last round and the title is still up for grabs. Should be good to see SBR or Team Betta Electrical win it. Who else is going?
-
Basically each graph overlays the before and after result of the tune, showing AFR (fuel mixtures), tractive effort (pulling power) and boost pressure. The red lines indicate the before result, the blue the after results.
-
There should be some difference between the 95 and 98 octane fuels if the car is tuned for each type of fuel. I havent pushed the limit with either fuel yet - but it's something I'll look at with Barry from Ford Performance Tuning in the next few weeks.
-
Dyno sheets attached. I made sure the dyno was run in 6F mode. Apparently Turboed sixes need to be run in this shootout mode..... F6 Ute- timing adjustments were nominal over the factory calibration. One table in particular did require some attention however.
-
As Greg said, the current tune is a conservative one. I have tuned it to 449rwhp in the past running 15psi on Ultimate 98.
-
I like the huge rush of torque coming on as well, however with a stock bottom end I'm not going to risk doing a motor....yet. Mods are: ASE front mount intercooler 38# injectors SMB 4" dump pipe and SMB 4" cat - stock exhaust from cat back Totally stock MkII engine Mal Wood Stage 3 clutch kit to handle extra power/torque.
-
Just as a matter of interest, how much fuel was in the tank? The more power these cars put out, the more prone to fuel surge they are. Anything less than 1/3 tank of fuel will cause my car to surge on the 10psi program.
-
Took my car to APC (formerly known as D & T Performance) in Wangara today to test the new version of the tuning software I have, as well as create a tune for a daily driven application for 95 octane fuel. Recently I've been running the car on Caltex Vortex 95 (Vortex 98 is not available in WA) as I felt BP Ultimate was not worth the extra money, nor do think the quality of the fuel is there either. As a base run the car put down 246.0rwkw with an untested 10 psi program I had. AFR's were a bit rough for my liking, and boost dropped off from 10.5psi to 9 psi over 4000rpm. After a few tweaks with the software power is now up to 279.4rwkw, running 11.5 psi (+/- 0.25 psi) from 3500rpm, and an AFR of around 12 flat. Power comes in very smooth as there is no initial boost surge and boost holds level throughout the rev range. I have serious reservations about tunes that run heaps of boost as the turbo spools up (such as 18 - 20psi spikes @ 3000 - 3500rpm), as they can bent/twist rods easily. I'd rather build the boost up for the top end rather than peak it mid-range and taper it off top end. Each to their own however.... So all-in-all, the car went in for a touchup and came out with 33rwkw more by adding a little more fuel in the midrange and stabilizing the boost. All that while using Caltex / Woolworths 95 ron fuel. Will post dyno results including AFR's tomorrow as I don't have my scanner here.

I'll come along for a look at APC that is.....
