Will post a new topic shortly.

Steve, go for a ride in a 5 spd T with an edit only, and see what you think. Unless someone is going to do you a special deal, The tuning box alone will cost you around $995. Then you'll need a custom tune - probably around $200, plus dyno time ($100 - $120/hr). You may find cheaper if you shop around, but allow that much anyway. If you do choose to increase power you will have to allow extra expenses later down the track I.e. clutch upgrade minimum and/or valve springs.

Well I just got my new wheels fitted, 19 x 8.5 with 265/30/19 rubber for front and 19 x 9.5 with 275/30/19 for rear. I'd say the fronts are maxed out for rim width, but the rears could go 285's or 295's on a 10" wide rim with 30 profile tyres. I had both front and rear guards rolled before fitting the wheels.

No, Ford aren't doing it under warranty or as part of a recall campaign. McInerney Ford in Perth are doing it if your after a performance valve spring upgrade. Most competent dealers should be able to do it, however some will flatly refuse to do any work on your car other that routine work. The ArseHoleGroup (AHG as they're better know) owned Ford dealers are the ones refusing to do anything but a $200 oil change.

I agree with what the article said, but it leaves the door open for both Motor and Wheels to do nothing but heap praise on a new car from GM, if it's good enough. Very typical for a magazine to give a car a hard time when it's reaching the end of it's cycle, knowing a new platform is just around the corner. Bloody great to see Ford making such a successful comeback after the AU. Now, if only FPV would release a BF V8 or turboed 6 with 300rkw. That would really sink the boot into Holden/HSV.

From what I read in threads on the Nizpro site I believe their springs would be better. Threads on the Nizpro site from Simon state that the V8 springs are close to spring bind and that is why Nizpro had their own springs made. These are a stronger spring but cannot be compressed to cause spring bind. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course they would say that. Funny thing is, Ford are fitting GT inlet valve springs as an upgrade to the XR6T and provide warranty for parts and labour. So who's right and who's wrong about the coil bind? Speaking of Nizpro's site (and I'm not having a go at them), I read I should be running the Stage 2 - 3 Cobra kit according to their Power Upgrade section, to achieve the power I'm running with the factory manifolding. Don't believe everything you're told.
-
McInerney Ford in Perth will only use the GT inlet valve springs for the valve spring upgrade on the XR6T's.

GT springs in mine as well. 330+rwkw no problems at all.

Thank's Martin But everyone is missing the point I know this problems happen's from time to time the point I am making is I was told by my tuner that it cant happen and also you were told by them that I didn't phone them. So therefore I must be a dreamer and a lyer at the same time. Dave. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can understand your problem. It isn't in your imagination, it's a programming error. As simple as that. Earlier this week I fixed a calibration on an auto XR6T which was experiencing throttle response lag (of up to 5 seconds) everytime the driver put his foot down. Chasing the problem it appeared that someone had altered the tailshaft rpm setting in the calibration and missed a digit ( programmed 1500 instead of 15000). Like Martin said, unless it's been an issue prior to the car ever having edit, it's been a programming fault/error. Remember, some mechanics have big phucken fingers and can slip on the keyboard. If your not happy with your tuner go and see someone else.

Well said Greg. I think people should heed your advise.

simon hasn't really had an engine failure if that's what your implying mine is the only 1 and its all my fault not the tuners. if u guys tuned my engine to the power level that he did then I bet I wouldve blown that to. I flogged my standard internal engine with 375rwkw, simon at 1st refused 2 give me that much power and I begged and begged til he gave in, telling him my aim was pretty much to see what the internals could handle and I didn't care if they went. I got my edit box and tune from bpt and my ute went good for a week then went so bad I couldn't even drive it with that tune anymore so I spent all that money and had to drive around with the factory tune back in. I saw simon in spite of barry tellin me hes a backyard tuner fresh on the scene to see what he thought of my car and straight away he made it ten times better and straight out gave me discounted prices without ever seeing me before in his life. He stands up to his word also. He went to the trouble of ordering an exhaust for me the freight and everything at an exceptional price then when he recieved it and it ended up costing more then he expected he still gave it to me for the original price selling it to me at a loss not including the time he spent. How many guys would do that to your average joe, we aren't even mates really. I'm not bagging any1 I just hate ppl being bagged especially when they dont deserve it. In my opinion u can't go past xtreme, alot of tuners promise but xtreme delivers <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's fair enough. Simon did speak to me this afternoon about your car, clarified what went on. I'll agree the failure was not attributed to bad tuning. These engines do have their limits as you have discovered. I've seen another engine fail as well, probably in similar circumstances to yours. It will be good to see how both these cars go with new engines and more power

Barry from BPT Motorsport can hook you up with a good tune. I have my own software and in conjunction with Barry have tuned many vehicles and never had an engine failure. Link is: http://www.bptmotorsport.com Jason.

My 6 speed will break traction rolling along in 2nd or 3rd gear in it's current trim on dry roads. Not at low engine speed either, but as revs climb over 4000rpm. It's how I've tuned it and I like the way it feels. It's quite humorous pulling out to overtake in either of those gears and painting black lines on the road. Doing skids from standstill is easy, and if your quick on the shift (in a manual) and have a good clutch go can do 3rd and 4th gear burnouts. However, that's not an indication of power; rather, a lack of traction.

Yeah, me too. Gonna buy a new block and crank and get an engine built locally. Probably just get the rods and pistons from Rocket Industries. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm interested in getting something built straight away if u want we should get 2 built at once then we might get a cheaper price on the rebuild. I can get all ford parts at cost I dunno how much discount thru rocket but I presume u should be able to get a reasonable price being in the industry <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not going to do it just yet as I am currently in the process of upgrading the fuel system to support more power. Will contemplate doing a new engine Feb/Mar next year.

Well said, got to agree with you there mate. In WA, it's a $22,000 fine for an individual for failing to 'co-operate' with the building task force.

As suggested by Street Tuner it probably wouldn't hurt to take the flasher back to place of purchase and have the current CAPA tunes loaded. You may also consider purchasing a custom tune which will give the best results.
-
I was sure that Jason said he had the latest Generic Tunes from CAPA when he did mine, could be wrong though! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes I do Leigh, and have ordered the V3 Software as well. Personally custom tuning would give the best results.
-
Any other manufacturer build these long engines? I'm considering getting either a new short or rebuilding mine.
-
Yeah, maybe. After all, I have a laptop and the software. Guess that puts me in the same catagory as some tuners around here doesn't it?! Not sure yet. At what point does it become a restriction? When it does become I restriction I'll contemplate it.
-
Jeez, now you're asking me to divulge all my secrets..... Stock swing valve and port size..... Rear section removed the restriction of the stock exhaust setup...minimum power gain 25rwkw. Boost spike was not caused by the installation of the new rear section, rather the temporary catalytic converter 'fix' due to the bloody thing failing, but that's another story and am following that up with SMB. In the mean time a 3.5" metallic substrate unit has been installed and boost does not spike. Infact, boost is more controllable now with the new exhaust and actuator assembly than it ever has been Bigger than stock injectors are used, but not Bosch 968's, yet. Am working on sourcing a heap of them at a realistic price through a contact I have. Might have to get the car to that 'other' dyno and see how much power it makes there
-
Thanks Steve. Before I head to the drags again I need to replace the clutch centre, which should hopefully be done by the end of this week. Might get there in the next few weeks.

Installed a new in-tank fuel pump capable of supporting over 550hp to alleviate fuelling issues. The difference is very noticable, which is good. However, due to the lack of any baffling in the fuel tank fuel pickup is an issue with less than half a tank of fuel showing on the gauge. I'm having a small baffle made to fit around the in-tank pump, and now will also install a surge tank. The in-tank pump will feed the surge tank, which in turn will supply fuel to a new external fuel pump. The stock fuel pump is definately not capable of supporting over 300 - 320rwkw, even with the relief mod, neither is the stock fuel pump cradle sufficient to keep the fuel pump supplied with fuel in high load applications. Power is now capped at 330rwkw, although it has seen more. I don't see the necessity of running the car with 350-360rwkw in it's current trim as I'm sure the bottom end will fail. I guess it's about time to start planning for new rods and pistons

I use Turbotech in Perth, any reputable turbo repairer or sales shop should be able to get one.
