G'day Aeron, I note your mates F6 has reversing sensors in the rear bumper! Were these there standard - cause mine certainly hasn't got them! How much were they fitted?? (if not standard) Has anyone elses F6 got these?? Thanks

Great to hear YCL!, I have had mine fixed for about 6 weeks now and can say that youre absolutely right in what you say about the 'noises' and the pedal feel etc. I'm more interested in your comment about the change into 2nd gear when cold. I have experienced a similar sounding problem since new, and it seemed to get worse as the 'old clutch' pedal got longer and longer - in the end almost being engaged when it was still on the firewall! It feels like the synchro's into second are not right! - maybe they have suffered with the old clutch dragging a bit? I also have a similar (but extremely minor) problem into third gear.... - Is that the same problem you have experienced?? I'd be really interested to know as I have 'agreed' with the Service Manager to leave it alone until it's done at least 10,000km's - but at thi stage is not getting any better. Anyway, really glad to hear someone else is enjoying their car too!

Thanks Jarrod, ...will I need the CAI? - the F6 already has the 2nd air intake fitted - or is it the wider scoop unnder the front of the bonnet that I will need? I was thinking Edit+Injectors+Cat only. I have heard the fuel computer will not read correctly after the injectors are fitted -is that correct, or can the edit adjust for this?? What about 'driveability' around town at 300+rwkw - I guess it will be the same until the right foot is depressed?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No need for CAI as it has two now and they are acceptable for 300rwkwsYep edit injectors and Cat will get you 300rwks .. Maybe a K&N or BMC filter might not go astray either. When the injector size is edited into the map your trip/fuel computing will work OK. Your drivability will be great around town and quite normal until you go past ¼ throttle at witch point it will go animal if you wish!!! Do some pricing and Ill think you will be very happy at how cheap a phoon is to get to 300rwkw's <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for the help. ...judging by your signature, you're speaking from personal experience - excellent! ...I can't wait!!

Went to the FPV Club of Tassie's Dyno Day today and decided at the last moment to stick the F6 on the rollers. Car is completely stock and runs 95 RON fuel (no 98 RON available at pumps in Tassie...yet) 221 rwkw on 1st run and 216 on the second.... just over 9psi boost reached on both runs at 2800rpm, dropping to 7psi by 4500rpm, and 6psi at 5700rpm Pretty happy with the results.....and now plans for the Edit! Plan to talk to Simon in Perth re options for around September, as I would like to get at least 10,000 k's on the clock before 'playing'. Any good ideas for what 'first steps' to take to get to 260-270rwkw?? ...Got to love these things!!

....can't get Windows Media Player to play this attachment ..... am I doing something wrong? - I notice it's been downloaded over 300 times already! I am just clicking on the .wmv file attached and it fires up Windows Media Player, starts Connecting.....but that's it...it never stops! Can anyone help?

Thanks QikSmurf ...Good to hear you have been 'lucky enough' to have a dealer who has kept you in the loop so much. I would really appreciate knowing more about the 'list' as I want to make sure that all the work gets done - there was certainly no mention of the tailshaft rebalance or the gearbox oil change when my dealer spoke to me the other day! (although he did mention the hose clamps!?) - what's the chances they would be choosing only to do the 'easy' things????
-
QikSmurf, My F6 is due to go in for the clutch fix and 'flash' next week. You mention an 8 point bulletin ..... what are the 8 points? I gather the clutch fix is one, the re-flash another, another must be the tailshaft re-balance......5 more? Let's know what you have learnt. Ta BA-PHOON

....just heard from FPV - clutch 'upgrade' will be released next week on the 26th April...... and.....DataDots are a state of the art identification technology, about the size of a grain of sand. DataDots are made from a high tech polyester substrate, suspended in a clear drying adhesive with a traceable formula. Each DataDot is laser etched with unique information directly associating the asset with its owner. The adhesive shines under ultra-violet light, but many DataDots will remain hidden and thus impossible for thieves to find and remove. The DataDot system ensures that assets can be easily identified and traced back to their owner, with the use of recognized Police and Government databases.

I don't think the standard F6 guage is designed to go much above 1/2 scale! I own one and have never seen the boost guage higher than just above half way. (I actually doubt it's making 9lbs!!!!,... and if it does it's not for long before the computer is reducing boost to limit top end power ) What are other F6 owners experiences?... does yours go above 1/2 scale? I would love someone to tell me what the scale would be as well, ... so if anyone knows or works it out please post it here.

FPV F6 - 39 year old, in Tassie, 60% No Claim Bonus with Shannons = $1160/annum.

...you have got to be joking!!!....right??? :o Surely you don't think that autos are completely 'fluid'. Sure they have a fluid converter....BUT they also have gears! I have an F6 with the same gearbox noise below 2000 rpm. I will not accept that it's supposed to make the noise..... even if 80+% of them seem to have the PROBLEM!

Panda, Turbofalke is right about the lease questions. It makes a difference to which way you might 'jump' I lease my F6 (since early December) and would not change my decsion to get this car. It's part of a 'salary package' allocation and I 'top it up' to make the F6 lease affordable (Company allowance is for a Fairlane or similar). You will need to do at least 25,000 km's /yr to make it affordable, otherwise FBT bites hard! (20% vs 11%) Tax benefit is REAL. I plan to purchase the car after lease (did that with the last car as well, better half now driving it!), that is unless it gets badly damaged...or something else major goes wrong in the meantime. It will make a great club car in 3 years.... especially when it's been breathed on by APS. I have had a few realtively minor issues with the car and would be happy to let you know more about them if you PM me (I have already posted some info on the problems in other threads on this forum...so have many others...so you could also surf there) Good Luck with your choice! Hypnodoc, ..Did you take up David Flints offer to talk to him about your concerns/issues? You still seem really unhappy with your car!!? Good to hear you got rid of the gearbox issue, I plan to try the same oil at next service.
-
More news on the gearbox noises.... and maybe how to get shod of them! I was just over on the '*notallowed*.com' site and Hypnodoc has had some synthetic gearbox oil put in his F6 box...... apparently no more noises! Oil Spec etc is included in his post (sorry, I'm not sure how to post a hyperlink yet!) and so is a link to the suppliers site. Sounds like expensive stuff.... but it may get rid of the noise! ,,,worth thinking about!
-
Build No. 0052. 1st one in Tassie. See below for options/ colour etc. ...waiting to hear the outcome of the APS work..... but very tempted!!!
-
No auto option on the F6's....... yet, but for a T or a GT I'd say it would be well worth the look.
-
I think its one of those things you might have to put up with someone said put synthetic oil in might be a shot . Might go to the dealer and ask if the will do some testing with some other oils worth a shot what part of tassie are you from would be from the south I think <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Fraggle, Yep, from the bottom end, living in Hobart. I'm guessing then that you area a 'northerner' then? The guy from the dealer where I bought the car suggested the same thing re trying a synthetic gearbox oil.... although I'm not sure their service manager will be so keen?? .. I plan to ask on the 3000km service anyway. I'd love the noise to go away.... and it's definitely not getting better. Did you get the engine oil changed on the 3000k service? I'm thinking it would be worthwhile. There is another thread on this forum somewhere about engine oils for the turbo six. The Typhoon is recomended to use 'mineral oil' only....and I would have thought that (after running in on mineral based oil) synthetic or a blend would have been the 'go'?. What's your thoughts?
-
mine has made the noise from day 1. I suppose that's just normal the service manager said to monitor the nosie if it gets louder go back he also said its a very big box and you should get a little bit of noise .any who thanks to all, a bit hard being the only one in tassie with a 6 speed ,I guess that what the fourm is for <{POST_SNAPBACK}> G'day Fraggle, Youre not the only one in Tassies with a 6 speed, and not the only one with the noises you describe. I picked up my Typhoon with the same 6 speed box (different ratios) on 6th December. I now have around 2000km's on the clock. Mine has the 'bearing growl' at below 2000 rpm in any gear....although most notoceable in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It also has a noise, sounds like a 'tick, tick' when in neutral with the clutch out. It dissapears when the clutch is pressed. Mine also has a problem (although maybe can put up with it if it doesn't get worse) with the cahnge into 2nd being a bit difficult....otherwise the gearbox is not bad!?? Other guys in the Typhoon section of this forum are experiencing the same issues too. If you read through it there are a few guys reporting this noise etc to their dealers. One of them (MYF6 I think) has recently had his 3000km service and they told him they knew about the noise but weren't sure if there was a fix (or if it was a problem?) I agree with an earlier post .... the growl at low revs does sound like the front gearbox bearing. Not sure if it will turn out to be a problem. PLEASE post what you and the dealer decide to do ... or not to do? ...Good Luck!

G'day MYF6, Well this is my first post ...so I hope it works! Picked up my Lightening Strike F6 on Dec 3rd. Build No. 52, first one delivered into Tassie. Brembo's fitted + leather etc. 84 km's on the clock at delivery (apparently had 72 km's on the clock when it arrived to dealer.... 12 km's 'extra' for window tint etc.) ...Drove 35 km's and the dash started playing up. Both the speedo and tacho dropping to zero, despite travelling in fourth gear at around 100 km/hr. Also a 'lot' of lights flashing (check engine, traction control, oil pressure, fuel, temperature, seatbelts etc, etc) Took it back to the dealer, where it spent the weekend before getting fixed on Monday the 6th. They found a loose plug connector on the 'ICC'?? (computer on the inside firewall behind the console) ...Not a great way to start!!! Anyway, the reason for replying to your post was to let you know that I too have the gearbox 'gnashing of teeth' at below 2000 rpm. I would love to know if it's a real problem or not - so please keep us posted on what you get told on the 3000km service. Mine also has plenty of paint blemishes, but it just isn't worth letting 'them' do anything about them because I'm not convinced it wouldn't be worse repaired! (especially with the metallic silver!). The paint has literally fallen off the bottom inside edge of the front bumper too (inside the wheel arch in front of the tyre). I have seen this on a lot of GT and GT-P's as well! - you think they would sort this sort of stuff out - eh? Seems to have a little drivetrain 'slap', and it does seem to be getting more noticable - something I will keep an eye on before my 3000km service. Other than ALL that I'm not unimpressed by how it goes. I previously owned a GenIII 5.7 litre 'thingy',.... and there is no doubt this goes, handles and stops a heap better - way more fun! (probably should for 20 large more as well!!??) It now has 1,500 km's on the clock, and I have kept (tried to at least) below 4500rpm most of the time, occasionally going to 5000 (after the first 750km's). Run in was completed today, so might go for a drive later and see what it will do through the entire rev range! In fact....got to go....I hear it calling me! BA-PHOON
