Oh and they had no FG's there tonight. Unbelievable!! LOL

Kind regards Jon

Its not balanced! LOL It was giving a bad vibration so I turned the shaft 180deg and was heaps better. Leads me to think it wasn't balanced properly to start with? Ran it up at a mates Ford workshop tonight and removed about 40gram of the massive slab of weight the tailshaft mob welded to it. It is heaps better and we got the reading down to 180gm from 1100 odd that we began with. Have to go back and have a bit more of a play as it still gives a slight rumble at 100kmph. I just wanted to know the centreline measurement of a stock shaft to make sure I am not putting any load on the rubber uni drive as there is no uni at this end Kind regards Jon

Hi guys Just wondering if anyone could help with a measurement of the stock tailshaft on an FG. I need to know the centre line height of the shaft from the top of the trans tunnel down to the shaft centreline just in front of the centre bearing. Hindsight tells me I should have checked this height before I had my custom shaft made up LOL The shaft runs 1350 unis with an F150 centre bearing. At present I have the centre bearing spaced down 45mm. Having a few balance probs Any help would be awesome Thanks everyone Kind regards Jon

Data pwr stepped.pdf Hey bud That's real nice of you hey Thanks heaps for the offer bud but I have changed my diff yoke now. I ran it up at mates Ford workshop with their balance diagnostics tonight. We removed about 40gm of weight added by tailshaft mob and it seems slightly better. I will have another few shots at it hopefully tomorrow night. I obtained these figures from PWR the other day, it compares their stepped with OEM core if it interests anyone. Apparently they have seen 450rwkw through their cooler? Hmmmm, don't know what sort of inlet temps that would see. Anyhow my dyno is on Thurs morn so I hope I can get this shaft to behave Kind regards Jon

Hi Guys Ok so I rotated the tailshaft 180deg and it seems much, much better. I will have to have a sus on the rollers as I don't really want to try and check vibration at excessive speeds, but it seems fine at 100kmph. Kinda strange as this leads me to believe the shaft wasn't balanced properly to begin with? Oh just saw in previous post I said 1150 unis LOL They are 1350 units, few beers will do that! So its off to the dyno this week and will try and fine tune the tailshaft balance at Ford Kind regards Jon

Hi Bud, I went for a Garret housing that had a bigger gate port over the Ford unit, we then ported it out to around 35mm from memory. There is around a 1.5-2mm seat for the flapper. Here is a pic of the said shaft. I am going to try and rotate it 180deg today and see if that changes anything slightly. As soon as its tuned I will post as much data as I can regarding the lil 76GTX. Just gota get this TS bug sorted Kind regards Jon

Hi everyone, well I got my tailshaft in and all the little bits done with a base tune. So I took it for a gentle spin, 80kmph slight shudder? 100kmph wasn't good at all. Was hoping to have it ready for the nationals next Saturday but I don't reckon its going to make it!!! I reckon it will shake the car to bits by the end of the quarter! Aaaaaaarrrgh. I kinda had that feeling the tailshaft balance bug would bite me....damn it!!! I wasn't going to replace the rear CV, but after hearing some horror stories of them self destructing I went for a yoke change and an 1150 uni on the rear. I spoke with my mate at Ford and we are going to try and do an on car balance job with the Ford tool (was WDS when I worked for them) and some weld on weights. Will see how we go, otherwise its back to the tailshaft mob with the said large tailshaft and a tub of Vaseline, actually I will skip on the Vaseline after this headache. Sorry for dragging out a simple build up people. On a side note the GTX76 feels just as responsive as the OEM 76 but I haven't buried the foot until its on the rollers and AFR's are good Will post some pics soon Kind regards Jon

I have had some massive hold ups with the tailshaft. I am promised it tomorrow (for like the 20th time) then its off to the dyno for some retuning on 98 then e85. As soon as its going and I have some test data on the PWR stepped I will post it, then I will run the same tests with the bigger tube n fin unit I fab and see how we look My apologies for the hold up, I am hanging to get my G6 on the road, its been way too long Kind regards Jon

Aaaaaaaarrrrggh, was meant to get my tailshaft back today but it wont be ready until Monday!!! What the!!!! This waiting is a pain in the butt!! Have changed over the yoke on diff so hopefully there will be no vibration Just want it all going already!!!! Kind regards Jon

Should have tailshaft back tomoz for fitting on weekend then its of to dyno for some tuning n data logging Kind regards Jon
-
Not yet bud, just waiting on my tailshaft and its off to the dyno. Will do some logging of the PWR stepped before building the new cooler. Just waiting.....aaaaargh lol kind regards Jon

Welcome bud, nice choice on car kind regards Jon

There is many different types of cooler core and they all work to some degree. Some are better at thermal transfer than others, unless they are all built to the same design principle of course they will all have different thermal transfer rates. What may seem like a small amount of thermal energy say 15degC between coolers can make a big diff to how the engine develops power. It would be great to see a back to back test on lots of diff coolers. Kind regards Jon

No probs, just waiting on tailshaft and its off to the dyno Will be interesting Kind regards Jon

Will log inlet n outlet temps, ambient and boost pressure at dyno with PWR unit. Unfortunately will be later on when I logg the euro tube n fin. There are some cheapie cores that perform quite well, you just need to know what to look for. A mate ran a cheapie on his turbo ls1 but had dramas with intake temps getting high and the ecu pulling timing, closer inspection of the cooler revealed it basically had no internal surface area. A different cooler and she made good power and went on to run 10s. That was a sub $200 cooler too kind regards Jon

Would need same car to run back to back on with same ambient etc. We just did it on a diesel Landcruiser at work. There are many types of bar and plate as there are tube n fin so it wouldnt be as simple as covering them all. I have test some real junk tube n fin that are less effecient than a good bar and plate and I have tested tube and fin designs that performed better than types of bar and plate. The less weight the less thermal energy is stored or heat soaked in the cooler. There are many variables. But I would be interested, you would need two cores the same size with the same tanks. kind regards Jon

Haha, its all good mate. I have been building coolers n cars for 20+ years Kev, just my opinion bud from what I have seen and tested over that period. Like I said have seen plenty of your work, its nice. Just bar and plate is not for me that's all with that being said the bar n plate cores you are using are one of the best bar n plate units I have seen and would prob be more efficient at thermal transfer than heavy extruded tube n fin. Lots of the Suby boys love em too. No offence meant bud ok Just my opinion Kind regards Jon
-
Just tested a so called good bar and plate with internal offset fins against a euro tube and fin on dyno bout a month ago. Bar and plate heat soaked after several runs, it weighed in at several kilos heavier than tube n fin. Difference was averaged at 17deg cooler for light weight tube n fin with a power gain of 7rwkw with no afr changes. Afrs were brought back to where they were originally and there was 12rwkw in it. Not massive but interesting none the less. Sorry mate but its tube n fin for me. Seen your work and its nice bud. No offence hey kind regards Jon

I will find out for ya, Simon put me onto them. Gota catch up one of these days bud Kind regards Jon

Going to Adelaide tail shaft bud. I rang Hardie Spicer, they build em for KPM I think, but were massively dear. Around 1.5k. Hows things going with you J? kind regards Jon
-
Ok air box n pipework all done, heres some pics. Pull tailshaft out for a hd replacement and its off to the dyno...yay. Dragged on way too long, mrs doesnt understand the importance!! Lol kind regards Jon
-
PWR stepped works well, personally I dislike bar and plate due to heat soak issues. Tube and fin all the way lol Horses for courses as they say Kind regards Jon
-
Yeah I know, will pull it out this weekend. Dont wanna chance breakage, gotta love Ford tailshafts lol. Here are some pics of the airbox n pipework, hopefully will have it sorted this weekend. Kind regards Jon
-
WTF happened to my avatar? Lol kind regards Jon
-
Me too, its taking ages lol. Just about got the airbox finished. Tossing up about tailshaft atm as this will put me back a few more weeks. Will post some pics of the finished intake soon kind regards Jon
