  1. Can someone quickly explain the symptoms of overboost? My car's behaved unusually once or twice - like slow to take off in first (like a limp home mode before clearing its throat) after a hard run, but I'm not sure how overboost rears its ugly head. Thanks Mark
  2. Well I'm going to watch the Bailey Brothers vs Alan Dobson's Green Machine Nitro Funny car challenge tonight. Should pick up a few tips there (NOT!) Ony a few thousand horsepower difference.....
  3. QUOTE(xrdreaming @ Dec 25 2004, 09:06 AM) I would say because when XR8 owners upgrade to the SS inductions setup they don't need them anymore. Yeah, that's what it would be...the dealer probabily fits the SS kits... Dave. Yep - that's what the dealer guy said Mark
  4. Thanks guys Good advice - keep it coming. Hopefully my clutch won't slip - it doesn't when I belt a 0-100 on a freeway on-ramp. Mark
  5. Hi everyone Well - I'm going to Motorplex (Perth) on Wednesday night to run my T down the quarter for its and my first time. Its a stock 03 manual other than K&N filter and 2nd CAI installed the morning before. OE Dunlop tyres. I was wondering if anyone with experience can give me advice on the following: 1) Launch Revs. How do I not bog down and maximise traction? From street driving I'm assuming I drop or slip the clutch at about 3000rpm? 2) Traction Conbtrol off or on? 3) Shift Points. I'm guessing I'll shift at about 5500 rpm rather than 5900 or 6000 as power seems to drop off anyway after 5500. 4)Tyre Pressures. I'm currently running max psi as per placard (35 psi front, 39 psi rear). Should I drop these for a quicker launch? Any advice or info on your experiences is welcome. My goal is to at least crack 100mph at the end of the quarter on the first run and ideally I'd like to go 13.999 but that might be asking a bit much from a stock T and 1/4 mile virgin. Will post my results after Wednesday. Thanks Mark
  6. McInerney Ford in Morley. I don't think he would have given one away - he was pretty set on making something out of it which is why I was happy to get it installed by them for $99 (He said $89 labour and $10 for the second hand snorkel). I sensed at the time that just offering $10 for the snorkel may have got a negative answer since they could have sold me the same part for $55. I'll ask him on Wednesday and post details. Mark
  7. Hi all Went sniffing around my local Ford/FPV dealer here in Perth for an XR8 snorkel to make my own 2nd CAI for my T. At first he tried to sway me toward an SS inductions kit, but soon cottoned on that I knew what I was on about (thanks to this forum!). He then said the Typhoon airbox was a "restricted part" only available to FPV owners but he could fit the xr8 snorkel to my current airbox. He said that they discard XR 8 snorkels all the time and they will install one under the headlight, cut a hole in my current air box and fit it all for $99.00. Gotta be happy with that! I save buying (or scavenging) the xr8 snorkel ($55), the pipe joiner ($20) and I get it fitted by a Ford Dealer. Hopefuly they cut a neater hole than me. They also make good money ($99 for 30 mins work - if that) using discarded parts so everyone's happy! I'm booked in next Wednesday. I'll let you know the quality of workmanship then. This forum is a fantastic information source. Thanks! Mark

Hi Brenton -welcome to the site (says me who's only new and posted a few times). I live in Perth and bought a Blueprint XR6T about 7 weeks ago. Love it, love it, love it!. My main criteria was something which made me smile every time I drive it - and the T certainly fits that bill. Enjoy! And if we go down the modification path, perhaps we can compare notes on local tuners and product availability. Mark
  9. Enjo car cleaning mit (no detergent required) and a reputable brand wax, such as Meguairs or Turtle. I remember reading a Mercedes Benz owners manual that said to never use detergent on the metallic duco - just plain water and a lambswool mit. Sometimes I use a car cover when sitting in the sun all day. Mark
  10. Thanks everyone I'll contact installers/tuners and see what they say and if they can refwere me to any of their happy customers. Mark
  11. Hi All I was wondering if anyone in Perth has had a Unichip (I'm sure there is) or Xede (not sure about this) installed. I'd love to hear about where you had it done and your experiences as this is something I'd like to do in the near future. I think there's 2 APS workshops in town and 1 Xede distributor, so any info would be welcome Thanks Mark
  12. Hi Soon2 I too am a newbie- haven't started my first thread yet, but I will. My 11/03 XR6T Blueprint manual is also under a novated lease and mods can be negotiated in my scenario. Your employer pays for your car from your package, The finance company "owns" the car and are happy with mods as long as they are roadworthy and legal so if you crash they get their money (that's all they care about). Insurers are much the same, make sure your mods are "legal" and disclose them and you should be fine - Specialist insurers like Shannons and Just Car (same underwriter I think) should insure a modded T for about a $1000 if you're 30+ and category 1. I love my T too. I decided to buy it within 5.9 seconds of my test drive! Mark
  13. ED XR6 - VS Statesman - Forester X (still got it) - XR6T Next car? Keep the XR6T (Love it!) and get a Forester XT as well. Perfect combo IMO. No allegiance to Expensive Daewoo or Ford but feel that Ford does a better job at making cars fun to drive. Mark
  14. I agree doublek! Ford quality (and Expensive Daewoo for that matter) won't immediately rival Honda or Subaru because of a Mark II upgrade. This upgrade is mainly for marketing purposes. As for resale, a month ago I bought an 11/03 Blueprint XR6T Manual with premium sound, tint, towpack and Ford Roof racks and 18600kms for $35800 (ex Customs - how do I get a job with them!). I could have waited for a Mk2 and with fleet discount paid $42000 (plus an extra $1000 for onroads here in WA). Whilst in percentage terms they'll depreciate the same, in $$$$ terms my 03 T will depreciate less - and lets face it its all about dollars! As far as problems, its good knowing the history and previous warranty claims if any when buying 2nd hand. I always check the trip meter. My car's trip meter said something like 4000km, 45kmhr avge speed and 13.3l/100km. This means it was driven very gently - I can't get under 15.5! I'm already resigned to having some minor issues - that's often part of owning a Ford or Holden (driveline clunking at this stage) but I love driving it. My other car is a Subaru Forester 2yo 50000km without as much as a rattle and vastly superior fit, finish and quality materials. Summary? I love my T and so will you! Mark
