  1. Nice time again, Steve. I don't think I'd bother racing mine again either - I think you're currently driving it to its full potential. Well done Mark
  2. Sounds good - if its a full day I might have to bring along my wife and kids. Perhaps we could make it family friendly if anyone else is in the same boat? Mark
  3. So how many tenths of a second over a quarter does everyone think a CAI and filter could improve the time? My guess would be 2 or 3 tenths at best. Keep in mind that when Wheels and Motor first tested manual T's they often got 100mph + terminals which is the same as Steve's. His 60ft is the reason for his good time. Anyone tried a 1/4 mile before and after CAI?
  4. Okay Steve, you've got 2 options given the picky bunch on this forum: 1. Change your title to "President of the 13 second stock manual (plus CAI/Filter) Club" or 2. Retrofit a normal air box, put the Ford filter back in (which APS says flows very well anyway) and run a 13 again. I reckon you'd do it with a launch like last night! Personally, I think that its so close to stock that it may as well be - given its only a $40 mod. Its not as if its an APS phase 1 or any boost tweaking is involved. Anyway, you've inspired me to learn to drive before I go for any mods. Mark
  5. I think it was PSI and I think it was auto Mark
  6. 14.53@98.5mph 2.46 60ft Stock Manual T ( other thanCAI and K&N)
  7. Can't make it next week but will go again soon. Let us know how you go. Steve - you're now President of the "13 Second Stock Manual T" Club with many members now striving to join! Good luck next week Mark
  8. Hi all A few of us WA boys went to Motorplex last night to run our T's down the strip. Whilst we were mostly happy to run our 14s, Steve (XXXR6T) ran 13.85 @ 100.** mph in his stock (other than 2nd CAI and BMC filter) manual, T5 T. It wasn't particularly cool - 24 degrees ambient and 32 degrees track with 60% humidity. I thought I'd start this thread just in case Steve is too modest to start one himself. His 60ft time was 2.16 (I think - perhaps Steve can post his slip) and it was just a perfect run. Is this a record for a stock manual T? Just shows how a well driven manual can beat an auto. And mate was that car well driven! Well done Steve, a fantastic effort. All I need now is some driving lessons. Mark
  9. 14.53 at 98.5 mph 2.47 60 ft. A new PB. Learnt a lot and still improving with every run. Steve's (XXXR6T) 13.85 @101mph must be a new record for a stock manual T. In fact I'm so impressed I think I'll start a new thread!
  10. Bummer - 36 degrees today. Not good turbo weather!
  11. Yep - no problem from my experience. My stacker is full of home burnt CDs Mark
  12. $100 and 3 demerit point fine in WA for having your "fog" lights on when its not foggy - day or night. I even tried to tell the nice Constable that they were driving lights, but to no avail.
  13. Why the T? Early mid life crisis and criteria were: 1. Had to make me smile 2. Had to take my wife and 3 kids all in baby / booster seats. LS1s and BA V8s felt doughie down low. Second on the list was an AUIII XR8. For my needs, nothing else came close!

Fantastic!! Makes me want to come to Melbourne just to see your beast! Mark
  15. any soccer mom's? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Plenty of yummy mummies. Always make sure I'm walking around outside with a big smile at the beginning and end of the day.
  16. School Principal - yawn. School car parks - even bigger yawn. My T is overcome with Toyotas and Hyundais.

  18. Whoops sorry - just read the Calder thread and guess something happened???
  19. Hi JB Did you take it for a run at Calder? How's your T5 standing up? Mark
  20. Never driven one, but I assume a GTR is engineered so that it could actually handle a 7500rpm clutch dump / sidestep. My T's clutch slips with a 2500rpm clutch dump and I guess that's just protecting the flimsy T5
  21. High Performance Imports - Buyers Guide 2001 quotes the following times for stock Skylines (Yep - I'm a car magazine nerd): R33 GTS-t 0-100 in 6.21 secs, 400m in 14.37 secs R34GTS-t 0-100 in 6.02 secs, 400m in 14.32 secs R32 GTS-t 0-100 in 6.89 secs, 400m in 15.01 secs (auto) R32 GTR 4.73 and 13.02 R33 GTR 4.94 and 13.19 R34 GTR 4.92 and 13.13 Standard XR6T (Motor November 2002) 0-100 in 5.9 and 14.2 400m. (Manual - auto similar but easier to achieve) Summary: Have fun with the GTS -ts and beware the GTRs as most are modded. Mark
  22. Are you sure the fringe benefits tax is calculated on the balance of the car after 2 years? I've taken over a lease on a company car previously and they charged me fringe benefits tax on the original purchase price of that car. My experience (maybe I've been lucky?) is that I only pay FBT on the lease amount. So when my lease is up in 2 years I can pay the residual of $18000 or refinance the $18000 for another 2 years and that becomes my amount for FBT. Because I paid for my car at auction and then leased it, CBFC even let me choose my lease amount (and hence FBT) Mark
  23. blackwrx Doing 25000km per year alone will reduce this amount by $300pm of FBT. Doing this makes your total payments similar to mine. You should be able to control all ins and outs in a novated lease - the whole point is that they cost your employer nothing. I only ever go for 2 year novated leases @55% residual (or the lowest someone will give me) which then enables me to refinance at the residual amount after 2 years which reduces lease payments and FBT significantly. Or I change cars! Keep in mind that your employer will probably reimburse your input tax credits and that if you do 25000kms your monthly cost will be $1700 of pre - tax dollars which is $900 pm of "real money" (if you're in the top tax bracket) for all running costs and lease payments. Take away the profit you make after paying off your residual and selling the car and your net cost of ownership including all running costs is closer to $700pm (after tax dollars) So your quote looks fair. I'd look at a shorter lease term, though. Hope this makes sense Mark
  24. I'll be there! I've been down once and did 4 runs. Clutch slipped and only ran a best of 14.9 but improved with each run. Brett - we'll have to do a Mk 1 T5 vs Mk 2 T56 grudge match - the freeway just didn't allow it last week.... Mark
  25. Hi Brett Not sure about your "couple of tenths quicker" theory. Motor got a 0-100 in 5.9 seconds and even conservative Wheels got a 6.0sec 0-100 for the t5 manual (2 up - full tank). The T56 is definitely stronger, but I think the net result of the ratios would be the same as far as performance is concerned. As you said last week we're yet to see a published 0-100 time but I know that 14.6 quarter for the Typhoon was slower than the original T tests. On the other hand, I'm probably just bitter and twisted that I've got the old clunker T5 running at its limit. Back to topic, the XR6T manual is a hoot to drive, and when I was doing my test driving, Subarus were mighty impressive in build quality and handling but just didn't have the same smile factor. And that was my no 1 criteria. Go the manual T! Mark
