I love it when people give good honest feedback on things rather than just saying what they have is best. Thanks Gaz.

I used auto glym super resin polish with the hand applicator pads (fabric ones seem to work better than the sponge ones). Great stuff! Did two coats per panel and three coats on the roof, boot and bonnet. It repels water so well now that even in this sh*t weather that we have been seeing in Melbourne, my car still looks spotless. The paint was already in good condition so I didn't have to use a cutter. But if your paint is feeling a bit 'rough' I highly recommend the meguires fine cutter before the polish. I usually use the mothers wax that comes in the round tin after the polish. But last Sunday I got lazy and went for a drive instead as waxing is another whole day job.

Sounds the same but here's a photo anyway. You'd be right about my backup battery. I doubt it's ever been changed. -

Help: Something's Killing My Battery!

The alarm on mine is up near the brake booster and has the fpv logo on it. It also makes a noise when disconnecting the battery but it isn't too loud and dies off in a few seconds. -
Your relos are in for some more fun than you. Every year my mate gets to house sit his family friend's place. All we do is empty their fridge and add vomit stains to the carpet. House would be much better off being left empty for a couple weeks

There have been many days (mostly rainy ones) that I wish I went with silver. Always want what you don't have aye. But today I am enjoying the ego.

Yeah a little bit too far to travel for a couple weights. Thanks for the thought anyway though mate. We might meet up at a cruise one day though. Hopefully by which time I'll have the vibration sorted.

If you already have a girlfriend or a good sense of fashion you can skip on the costume tune -
They said it only takes an hour. Wilko is right, they have a special tool that can balance it whilst its still in the car. They did say though that sometimes they can't get it balanced properly on the car so they take the shaft out and send it to someone else. I might ring up a few places like hardy spicer to get a couple of quotes. I reckon it should only take an hour even with taking the drive shaft out. I'm a hack mechanic and I know it would take me 15 mins max to get it out. I'm in mount martha mate
-
Well today after work I tried a few different combinations with the weights but to no success. I decided to go with what Wilko suggested but instead of putting her up on car stands, I loosened the mounting bolts so the bearing could freely move and I took it for a drive around the block. Got back and tightened it up and took it for another spin. Big difference there! Still a bit of a shudder between 50-60 but less harsh than what I was getting before. So now I'm not sure if I should get the tailshaft balanced still or put it down to the characteristics of the new bearing. I went into mornington ford today and they said that it will cost me $160 to get her balanced up which I thought was reasonable by ford standards. I'll probably get her balanced up just for peace of mind and cop it on the chin if it is the bearing.
-
I got mine through bearing wholesalers in dandenong and it was only $70 so it wouldn't surprise me if its causing the issue. Splines and weights are all where they should be so ill check if the bearing all lines up properly after work tonight. It's funny that the old bearing that I replaced had completely torn out of the rubber housing and had about 30mm of movement yet it didn't send any vibrations through the driveline at speed. Used to only thud on take off.
-
Good call Ralph. What sort of tolerance are we talking? Is a millimeter or two out okay? Or should I grab my micrometer set from work too? I'll test in the morning if it vibrates in all gears Wilko. Haven't tried that yet.
-
Righto Ralph I'll have a fiddle tomorrow after work with a few different configurations with the weights. Might even add a bit more weight to see if it helps. I've had them on in three different spots now and it is definitely at its smoothest in the 'original' position. I'm starting wear out the little tabs that hold them on so I might go to ford tomorrow to get a couple new ones. Mind you that might add in even more factors to the conundrum. I'll give that a go Wilko when I pick up my car stands. Currently living at my girlfriends place and I'm missing all my car stuff! Might even grab a dial from work to see if the tailshaft is spinning true

I'll straighten out that weight tomorrow and I'll see how she goes. I slid the shaft out of the gearbox so I didn't need to touch the donut. It looks to be in good condition though with no cracks or anything. I really appreciate your input boys! Keep up the troubleshooting. My real issue is pitlane not being open on Saturdays. I wouldn't be in this pickle if I didn't have to take a day off work to get her down to a real mechanic. C'mon mick! Haha

Now the photo decides to load! That's how they are at the moment. The white lines were already marked on them previously and I've matched them up. Looking at it now I probably should have flipped the top one around the other way.
-
I know which one sounds more fun.. So you think it's worth playing with the positions even though I put them back in the same spot now? Also you said yours has three weights. Mine only has two.
-
Uhhh turn up the radio and put my money towards a gtx?...
-
This thread is starting to make me look like a bit of a goose! I initially thought they were weights when I was marking it all up before pulling it apart. When I popped them off though they were so light that I couldn't imagine them doing much. They were also overlapping onto the same bolt which is why I spaced one of them across. Is that normal to come for them to overlap? I have a photo but tapacrap won't let me upload it. Everything on the diff side is exactly how it was before I pulled it apart. The metal washers are in the same spot and I even put the bolts in their original holes. I tightened them up in a criss-cross pattern like wheel nuts.
-
Today I put the little plastic thingys that clip onto the back of the diff bolts into the original position as they were the only thing I put in a different spot. Helped a fair bit actually but the vibration is still there. It was a long shot but it looks like I'm still going to have to rebalance the shaft
