Xr6 Turbo Western Sydney Night Run Friday 24Th June 2011
BLK6T replied to XRGASM's topic in New South Wales
I haven't been on a cruise in ages, last one was Mac Pass last year sometime. Count me in and maybe + 1 -
Hey all, Driving home tonight all was well, went to overtake a slow driver and the car was really lagging like a 4 cylinder. The exhaust made a weird sound and the car was going no where. Luckily I live in a rural area and I pulled into a back lane and tested the car, it was doing the following: - The turbo sounded like the intake pipe was popped off, all pipes are nice and secure but it sounded the same as that scenario. - As noted strange exhaust noise - In neutral the car revved OK Haven't had a chance to look at the turbo but when I got home I could hear it spin after turning the car off, all sounded normal. Its got me stuffed, only time the car has felt this was is when the turbo pipe has blown off, but all OK under the bonnet. Does anyone know what could be going on? Could it be the actuator? Any advice would be extremely helpful. Car is as per signature, only 80,000kms. Cheers,

Sorry gents, only got the CD off my mate this week...Been too busy! I shall overlook some of the comments above... The post is here: This video is not that bad, so I just posted on Youtube, still took ages to upload. The only annoying thing is the video doesn't show the full magnitude of this hill and what you experience. -

No probs, will get a CD from my mate tomorrow and place on a file sharing site tomorrow night. haha, no mate there's no dancing F6 in front of me. Actually the Silver Ute was in front of me and it drove bloody well, credit to the driver. It was taking corners harder than me. I am pretty sure the blue FG ute was behind me and keeping up also. Will post here tomorrow night. Cheers -

My mate took really good in car footage with a top of the range video camera going up Macquarie Pass, I was going to post but not sure where. I was going to put on youtube but thought it may draw the wrong attention to the forums. -

Just checked the beauro, now saying chance of late shower....WTF....a nice clear cold week and now a chance of late shower... It does say Saturday clear so I expect if it does rain it should only be drizzle and pass on pretty quickly. -

I did this last year as well, except we went down. This one sounds much more fun with Mt Keira Rd then going up the Pass. Can't wait, weather next week is looking very cold. Hitting zero in my area up in Kurrajong, so it should be similar up at the Pie Shop! Can't Wait!!! -

Yeah mate, count me in. I might have a friend who wants to come also, he drives an AU XR8. Not a turbo but hes a big Ford fan! -
good feed back so far about AAMI's repair work, feeling a little more OK now. However already missing the car badly, I have resorted to driving a VE SS which just doesn't have the kick of the turbo...

Hey all, Well after my last post regarding the unsatisfactory result of my new rear Kumho tyres, driving to work yesterday morning the rear broke free and hit an oncoming car. I was only 1/4 to 1/2 throttle max. I tried to avoid hitting the oncoming car but my rear quarter panel hit. I then went onto the turf farm and slid for a while as it was very wet from cold nights. Luckily no one was hurt and the police didn't even give me any fines or charges, they completely understood my rear wheel story. My wife included my car into a bundled up AAMI policy with her car and house, I have heard horror stories about AAMI repairers and need to ask if anyone here if they have had their pride and joy repaired by AAMI and if so were you happy and who did the work? I am in Nth West Sydney and know of really good repairers but AAMI may not accept their quote. I really don't want a crap job and then to spend months trying to get AAMI to re-repair the vehicle. Cheers

Hey all, Just replaced the rears (as is usual on a XR6T), I had some Kumho KU31's which have proved to be a very quiet grippy and overall a fantastic tyre. I opted to try the Kumho 37's (a newly released tyre) which rated to be slightly better according to Kumho. After having these tyres for 2 days, I HATE THEM. I have never had a tyre handle this way before. when driving over bumpy roads the car tends to pull in the rear and slide, it just does not feel right. Has anyone else experienced this? Traction is also very poor for a brand new tyre and having these tyres on the rear just makes me nervous, especially at speed. Anyway, if anyone is looking for new tyres I would advise not getting Kumho KU37 but would advise KU31's. Cheers

Hi all, Just a quick question, I have had a new twin plate clutch installed recently and the take up point is or feels higher than stock, is this right and should a healthy take up point be further from the fire wall of closer or doesn't matter. The clutch is working great with zero slip, much better than stock, just getting used to the different take up points Cheers

I see heaps more XR8 utes than turbos from B series to FG. It must be the mentality of a ute must have an 8 or a lot of older guys just think that 8's are better suited to towing and carrying loads, which their probably right.

How did a XR6 Turbo end up in Borneo Island?
-
Is there a Sydney cruise soon? I'm keen to go on a night cruise on a Friday or Saturday night.

Not sure what state you live in but in NSW all L platers can only do 80km/h on all roads including freeways, I'm yet to see a L plater be rear ended on a freeway for doing the speed limit of 80km/h. I'm not kidding anyone, but I live in a rural region and have seen numerous accidents mostly P platers, some fatal. The carnage I see from people doing over 100km/h is FAR FAR worse than people doing under. A mate I went to school with had several accidents and one got the better of him. First accident he hit a ditch and rolled at 90km/h and very luckily got out, only little cuts and bruises, a year later on the same stretch of road doing 120km/h lost control hit the ditch again and never made it, apparently the additional speed threw him further and he hit several trees that he didn't hit before. I know there are other determing factors at slower speeds that can be fatal.

Firstly condolences to family and friends affected, it has opened my eyes yet again. I agree totally turbotrana, young drivers NEED to have speed limited cars, Its becoming more evident. If he was driving a car speed limited to 80km/h an accident may still have occured but I can guarantee lives would have been saved! I don't see the point in restrictions on how much power a car can have for a P plater as it failed in this scenario, weather it was a new XR6, XR8, old VS V6 or even a Fiesta they are all capable to reach over 130km/h. Resticting occupants has also failed, this car had 6 occupants in a five seater car in the state that introduced the toughest road rules in Australia. Police are NOT everywhere and will not get everyone, therefor laws will be broken by the young drivers who don't understand in full what these harsh rules are trying to achieve, until they see this on the news. But unfortunatly it gets forgotten in a couple of weeks and everyone goes back to their driving habits. I strongly think that L and P platers need speed limited cars or devices that can limit speed on a car. L platers need cars limited to 80km/h, P platers maybe 100km/h, on a full license limit is removed and hopefully the young drivers are more mature. Advanced driving courses may help but with 4 mates in a p platers car egging on the driver, the driver will do stupid things to impress, an advanced driving course won't stop that. I had a L plater pass me on the F3 at 120km/h???? WTF were the parents doing in the car whilst their son was doing 40km/h over the limit??? No way is this young boy capable at driving at those speeds, the parent deserves to be locked up. This young boy will think its OK to speed everywhere. Again if he had a speed limited car set at 80km/h, this L plater would have been doing 80km/h. My 2 cents anyway.

Gear box oil is easy, get under the car and on the drivers side of the box will be the drain plug, on the passengers side will be the fill plug. Given its tight access I used a bit of hose to refill the gear box and ran the hose to the engine bay to refill. Alternatively you can buy a little hand pump from supercheap for $20, it took no more than 1/2 hour to complete. BUT, before replacing the oil buy some cheap engine oil and fill the gearbox with that first and take the car for a little drive to flush the transmission. Then drain the cheap oil so it removes all the little metal particles and other nasties then refill with transmax or mainlube. Some people recommend 2 flushes of the gear box. When refilling just keep pumping in oil until it overflows out of the fill hole and your done. nothing else to it.
-
Yeah, I used mainlube but it lasts A LOT longer than transmax so it works out better over the long run, plus its a better oil. But yeah its more $$$. If your planning on keeping the car long term I would recommend mainlube any day. I got my tranny oil tested after a year and perfect, but I also installed the mainlube supplied magnetic bung plug to pick up all little floating bits of metal.
-
I have a BA MkII also with the 6 Speed, had the same issue but also 2nd up to 3rd was a pain. After changing the clutch fluid and also the transmission oils I noticed a massive difference. Only thing is if you use transmax or mainlube for tranny oil your gear changes will be very tough and notchy when cold, once it warms up massive difference.

Hey all, Im having a strange problem with the T, when the car is relatively cool e.g. temp gauge at 1/4, the car runs like an animal as it should. However when the car is at normal operating temp sometimes it feels more sluggish and occasionally hesitates through the rev range or may feel restricted, TC is off of course. I am suspecting coils but I'm not sure if they would be affected by heat from the engine as the car runs fine when the engine is cooler. Hope this is making sense??? Any ideas or anyone else have similar problem? ....maybe I just need a new plenum and IC....missus may not approve however...
