Can anyone tell me if a 2004 BA Falcon XR6 Turbo has a single mass flywheel or a dual mass flywheel? I'm replacing the clutch and need to know if I can get the flywheel skimmed or if I need to buy another flywheel (or convert to single mass)! Any help would be appreciated.

I got a piece of hose, stuck in in my ear. Got the other end and moved it around the front of my engine. Noise is 95% sure coming from belt tensioner. Nice and easy fix

Thanks for the quick reply. If the cam timing had skipped would it usually be both cam gears skipped or just one and now it's running slack? Sometimes when I boost it makes a hell of a racket up there

My BA XR6 Turbo has an intermittent missfire at idle. It doesn't seem to do it much when it's cold but once it's warmed up it's really noticeable. When it's cold it hesitates going up my driveway which is on a reasonable incline. I usually stay in first (manual gearbox) and just take it easy and I can feel the car surging / missing as I go up the hill. I can hear the exhaust popping when standing at the back of the car and when sitting in the car at idle I can feel the car shaking. I can also feel a surging as I decelerate going down a hill in any gear which I have linked to the missfire aswell. I have had the plugs replaced and the coils replaced. Any suggestions?

I've got a horrible rattle sound in my engine and am not sure if it's serious and should fix it or what. I uploaded a clip to youtube if anyone cares to have a listen and give me any expert opinions. Running Castrol Magnatec oil (that's what Ford dealer put in in service) which is full and clean. I'm thinking it may be something to do with the cam chain tensioner but I'm no expert. Any help is appreciated.

I've had this issue since I purchased the car. I've had it serviced every 6 months and ford workshop have looked at it. They replaced the coils-problem still there. Then they said it might be my wastegate but honestly I don't really wanna keep spending hundreds or thousands of dollars in them guessing. Also it hasn't been throwing any fault codes. Has a slight miss at idle and I can hear the exhaust popping when decelerating going down a hill, not sure if this is related or not. Plugs were replaced not long ago by ford and gaps were checked.

I may have a similar problem. My car is a 2004 BA XR6T Falcon Sedan Manual 5spd. I am running 96 octane fuel. I live in regional Queensland which makes finding a specialist a bit more difficult. Around town, I can boost hard (up to 80kph or so) in 1st and second gear and the car performs flawlessly. If I'm out on the open road and then foot to the floor boost for what seems to be a little over 3 seconds (lets say 3rd gear passing a road train or something) it will suddenly loose all power and the engine will shudder. I naturally button right off immediately but it seems the engine is still shuddering and has no power. If I then pump the accelerator pedal 1/4 of the way down a few times the shudder seems to go away and it's back to normal. This does not appear to be a traction control issue as it does it with the traction control turned off and if t/c is on, the light does not indicate a loss of traction. I am trying to decide on the best solution for repairs and am interested in anyone's experience or knowledge in this area. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what boost I'm getting as I dont have a boost gauge, but it seems to feel the same as when boosting in second. I dont think I could justify spending 6k to get the issue sorted at this stage Cheers

Thanks for all the replies. I'm hoping it's not the valve springs though as that sounds expensive.

Hi, I have a 2004 XR6T Falcon and it goes great except one issue I have noticed. When I am boosting around town (ie: up to 80kph in first and second gear) the car seems to boost smoothly and really throws me back into the seat. However when I'm on the open road and boost in third gear to get up to 100 - 140 I will often get a sudden power cut-out. The way to describe it would be similar to the Traction Control kicking in and limiting the engine. However I have been trying this with traction control disabled and it still does it. I am now thinking it may be something to do with a lack of fuel during these high demand longer boosts. Any suggestions on where to look or personal experience? Cheers

I thought I'd go and have a bit of a feel around for any loose parts around the wheels etc. I chocked the front wheel and released the handbrake. I then tried to move the brake calliper and it did move and upon doing so it made a noise at the extremities of the movement. I then proceeded to check the front calliper to see if it had the same movement and it seemed to move even more and make even more noise when I wiggled it. Is this normal? Should there be movement like this from the brake calliper?

I tried slowly pulling up the handbrake while driving along and hearing the rattle and I got up to 4 or 5 clicks before I heard a thump from the back (I think as the hand brake engaged suddenly) even though I was only pulling it up very very slowly. I wonder if that whole mechanism is loose. Might jack it up and have a wiggle over the next few days.

I'm wondering if this is the same as the issue I'm having. I have an 04 XR6T and when I go over a bump (even a small bump) I can hear a rattle like sound in the suspension if I have the windows down. I did notice that when I apply the brakes (even ever so slightly) the noise goes away. If it's one thing I hate, its a rattle so any feedback would be appreciated. Cheers
