  1. I use a long thin metallic strip the same width and thichness as the other pins. I give it a slight curve and push up from the underside of the switch until it touches the underside of the PCB. Then you mouve it around untill it lines up with the hole and push it through ..easy. When soldering in place remember that the pad that you need connection to is on the underside - so be sure you get the solder through the hole to the other side.
  2. I also read it cover to cover for the 4 months of waiting... Having said that though if someone blanked my ICC without telling me my first though whould be that it was broken...
  3. I also would glady pay for someone to do this to my car. If you are in Brisbane or North Queensland, your assistance would be very greatly appreciated. I'm still happy to help out - PM me if you are interested. (I'm in Brisbane)
  4. I think you will find two really good reasons why they do: 1. It would be expected to get huge stoppers on cars of that price 2. Those cars are designed for track/racing driving. Those cars arnt even trying until they are doing 200km/h. If you drove the XR6T at 240Km/h and slammed on the brakes I'm sure the standard brakes would fade and you would be in trouble. Do the same with the premiums and I'm sure you would not have a problem. Since I dont go that fast and the standard brakes will do a single emergency stop from 110Km/h as effectivly as the premiums its hard to justify the cost. (Like I posted before they were on my wish list, but I dont regret not getting them at all.) As for Airbags - I agree with what everbody is saying about not wanting to be in an accident where they deploy. But if you are in an accident how many people lives is $500 worth. If I had an accident where they may have been usefull and I didnt have them and somebody was injured - how could you justify that!
  5. Sounds like an unfair comparison, comparing a $500 extra to a $3000 extra! I voted Side airbags - because that's what I got. In a normal single emergency stop situation the standard brakes are going to stop the car at the exact same rate as the premiums - and that rate is determined by the tyres and the surface. (Having said that premium brakes were on my wish list, but since I dont do track driving I couldnt justify the cost)
  6. I noticed one of mine is stuffed the other day.... Where do you get the 3M stuff, and what is it called?

  8. I too have pushed mine in :tosser: Any further details on the part number of step involved?

    Brain Teaser

    The other three were female.
  10. My engine bay if fully painted in body colour -and I dont know anybody on the production line! (No clear coat though)
  11. I'm a super Geek. But I'm also very mechanically minded and good with my hands. (Cant make anything worthwhile out of wood though! :( )
  12. Yep, it was me. I've been around, you dont think I could stay away do you.... Yes I have designed and built a number of controller modules for windows. I wouldnt be without them. I dont use the rear ones very often but the front ones especially the drivers auto up gets used all the time. The original thread was called "Automatic Windows On All 4 Windows" And this is (hopefully) a link to the thread Automatic Windows on all 4 Windows
  13. I also have this 'problem'. When I first leave the house in the morning the car 'surges' slightly for the first min or two... then it is gone without a trace.

    Rear Suspension

I had a clunking from the front steering rack - it was fixed at the first service. As for the lights in the window switches there is a huge thread on that topic. In summary: If you have premium sound it is easy to do. (instructions are in the thread) If you have premium you also have the option of buying Fairmont switches from Ford (very expensive though) If you dont have premium it can still be done - slightly more tricky though. (Instructions also in other thread) Also I have had a number of forum members send me their switches and I have done the conversion for them (premium sound cars only though).
  15. I down shift also - but usually only to 2nd gear. (7000kms no shudder yet)

    Premium Brakes

These high performance pads are designed to run at a igher temperature - get them hot and they will perform exceptionally and stop squeeling. However in normal daily driving they wont get hot enought and hence they will squeel. There is no pad material that is ideal for both high performance and normal driving - you have to make a compromise. Either good low temperature performance - and fade at higher temps OR good high temperature performance - and poor low temparature performance (including squeel)
  17. The mus spats ARE worth their weight in gold. (Keeping in mind they are quite light - sorry bad sense of humor). Anyway - I had the car for 3000kms before I bought them and they certainly make a huge difference.
  18. Lets not fool ourselves - now were talking fraud. Our (ridiculous) tax system essentially works on the honor system. Claim whatever you like and you will get the money back. But get audited and then your in trouble. A lot of people forget it doesnt matter if they think something is acceptable under the legislation (or can come up with a good excuse how it may be possible to misunderstand) it is what the ATO think that's important. One other think: the ATOs responsibility is to extract the maximum possible amount of money in taxes with the current legislation, so if there is any possible misinterpretation you can be sure which way they will think it should be. (No I dont work for the ATO - and I think the tax system is as ridiculous as the next person)
  19. He's already won the lotto - to the tune of $203....
  20. Sounds good.. but Id be surprised if the legislation didnt define 'upkeep' so as to prevent this.

    BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

I had a phone call from Ford customer care yesterday. They were afollowing up on a concern I had voiced during a satisfaction phone survey. (I said I was concerned about the shuder issue even though I havnt got it yet.) Anyway they told me that it was an issue and that the solution had been found and that the required parts were being manufactured for replacements. He also said that the solution woul dnot be availaible in the next 4 weeks or so.

    Rate Yourself

Considering that most people on the road dont seem to be competant at all I would have to rate myself very highly. BUT, considering the driving skills of people in motor sport etc - well I just dont stack up to them. SO somewhere better then 5 but worse then 10 - how does 7.5 sound!
  23. I generally fill when that stupid alarm stars sounding (80Kms). But I have had it down to 0 twice without actually running out of petrol

    BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

So I assume these will be fitted to ALL BAs not just those who have had problems?? Also if they do fit them to my car (no sudder yet, 6000KMS) it there a chance that my rotors are already 'partially' warped as a result of 6000kms without the fix?? Whould we be insisting that the rotors are changed at the same time as the fix is applied? OR alternativly perhaps Ford wont replace the parts on all cars - only those with the problem, that was if you get the problem you get the new springs and rotors at the same time?????
  25. I see a blood oraange XR6T everywhere I go :D :D :D But seriously - the only other Blood Orange cars I have seen have had interstate plates on them.
