  1. If you have a read of the intercooler atricles (there are about 5 - I only posted a link to the first) it is quite interesting. They agree with you that a normal water spray uses too much water - and whats worse - uses it at the wrong time resulting in little or no benifit. BUT they then say that the new control system gives excellent results. Also the cost for the project as listed is only a couple of hundred dollars - sound resonable to me.
  2. This web site may well be well know to others here but I have just stumbles accross it. It is so good I tought I would recommend it to anyone interested in technical (easy reading though) articles about cars. The site is www.autospeed.com.au A couple of the excellent articles are: Tyres, Grip and all that: http://www.autospeed.com.au/A_0996/page1.html Power VS Torque 1: http://www.autospeed.com.au/A_0755/page1.html Power VS Torque 2: http://www.autospeed.com.au/A_0744/page1.html Boost Terms: http://www.autospeed.com.au/A_0770/page1.html Intercooler: http://www.autospeed.com.au/A_0527/page1.html There are literally hundreds of others as well... I found that even things I thought I knew..well I was not quite correct. Very good articles Cam

    Brake Lights

Incandesent Bulb VS LED. LEDs are a solid state device that produce light . LEDs produce light when electrons and holes reunite on the p and n sides of a pn semiconductor junction. (All semiconductors do this - LEDs are just designed to maximise the emmited radiation on a visible wavelength) This is by its nature a very fast process. I.e. Apply current and the light emmision start as soon as the first electron recombine with the first hole - very very very fast. Incendesent light bulb rely on electrons 'boiling' off the surface of a piece of metal when it gets white hot into an atmosphere of special gasses. It takes time for the metal to reach the required temperature thus a small delay when the light is turned on. Also when the light is turned off the metal takes a finite time to cool below the temperate at which eletrons are able to escape into free space, thus a small delay turning off. A point in case would be high power high beams or spot lights on a car - we all know that take a second or so to turn on and a second or so to turn off. I guess you think I'm rooting for this as the explanation for why they seem to come on slower. I doubt that that is actually the whole story. The difference in turn on time is, I doubt, enough for it to be that obvoius to the human eye. It would probably be an exacerbating factor in what is probably an optical illusion. So I guess after all that I havnt helped at all!!!!

    A Newbie From Tas

I'm not the most experienced on this Forum (my car has been on order for 2 - 3 weeks - delivery in April/May). The problems mentioned wont stop me getting one - it sounds as though Ford is handling it well - plus since my car will be an April build hopefully some of the manufacturing problems will be sorted by then. 4-5 months sounds about right - unless you are happy with something on the floor (and there arnt many of those around) My car was similar: I didnt get these: Prem Paint, Sports Steering Wheel, Momo shifter, Mud Spats But I did get these Side airbags, tow, tint, 6year warrenty, cargo net, phone presenter On roads cost about $3200 As for pricing - I dont know how many dealers there are or what the compotition is like in TAS but.. Before I ordered I spoke with t few dealers who all basically said no discounts as the car is so hard to get. They also said that all the dealer principals in the area had got together and agree with each other not to discount (sound like price fixing and collusion to anyone!!!). Anyway I told them I wasnt paying full list price for a car and wouldnt buy if they didnt do better (and meant it - I would have bought the 2003 BMW 325i). Eventually I managed to get about $3000 off RRP and I signed. You would never get that kinf of deal on one of the floor stock models. All the dealers know that they can sell the floor models at full price without any problem.
  5. Got a bit over $3000 off the RRP on mine. I think I got a good deal - but then its always possible to do better!
  6. Are you sure it is right now? I am in Brisbane and I have to set the time zone to Osaka, Japan to get the correct time!
  7. Well when I was a kid.... My first computer was an Atari Compumate that had 16K of memory - at leat that is what the box said. It actually had 2K of RAM and 14K ROM (in case someone doesnt understand the different - the RAM is the bit used by user programs, ROM is not normally mentioned in specs). It was an ordinary Atari games console (the original one) with a "computer" add on we bought later. The add on had a keyboard that went over the top of the atari (remember it had a larege front) and it had an interface that plugged into the games carteridge slot and two cables with jpystick connections to plug into the joystick ports. Man that thing made the Turbo look slow I outgrew the RAM in about 2 weeks so we bought a Sinclair Spectrum Z80 with 16Kb RAM and a tape drive. I outgrew the RAM on that in a few weeks/months so we upgraded to a massive 48Kb RAM (now were talking!!!) [by out grew the RAM I mean the BASIC programs I was writing would no longer load into memory]

    How Old Are You?

I'm not expecting too may in the 17-20 age range - but I could be wrong!!
  10. I agree. I've ordered my Turbo with SSS. I've always had manual cars but the SSS is just wonderfully smooth. Even if the SSS is fractionally slower (and I mean fractionally) it still eats Holdens (manual or auto) alive - as well as just about everything else.
  11. I find the whole concept of something being "free" from a car dealer as amusing. It is all about the final price that can be negotiated. The deal I finally agreed to saw me paying about $3000 below retail for the package. Or if you prefer: Free Premium Audio and Free 18" Alloys and Free Side airbags and Free mats, scuff inserts and cargo net Of course non of it is really free - the dealer just reduces their margin By the way, its worth negotiating; 1st dealer - no negotiation full price only 2nd - they pay half the price rise 3rd - thet pay whole price rise 4th - as above (finally a reasonable deal)
  12. Sorry - typo - you can see in the poll title I got it right - just typed it wrong in the question
  13. I have started this as a discussion thread - but thought a poll might be good as well.
  14. Very nice. I think I will have to get those (if they are availiable)
  15. Is there a web page where everybody can see them?

    Ulp Or Pulp

I have been using Optimax (PULP) since my current car was new. The specs for the XR6T show as ULP/PULP and I was wondering what everybody is using? And has anyone actually tried both and noticed any difference??
  17. My current car (BMW 323i) does exactly that: When you hold down the unlock button on the remote control it start winding down the windows and then the sunroof opens - you let go of the button when they have opened the amount you want. When you hold down the lock button the opposite happens and they start to close. This is really handy. Opening is good as you can have the windows down and the roof open as you approach your car in a parking yard and have it significantly cooler by the tiem you arrive. Also good as you can close and accidentally open windows or the roof as you walk away. This is one of the tings I will miss in my XR6T when it turns up. However auto windows versus phenomical power and speed - I know which way I've gone
  18. The info I got was Xtra 1 year and 20,000kms $799 Xtra 2 year and 40,000kms $899 Xtra 3 year and 60,000kms $999 I added the third one after I had ordered and still managed to get it for about $860. I think its good value if 1. You want to keep it for more then 3 years 2. You want to sell it privatly when its almost 3years old
  19. My insurance quote for my upcoming XR6T was only $700 / year through RACQ (including a rating 1 discount and a discount for my other car being on the same policy)
  20. I hate them. Stickers: Over the top and obvoiuse ones look terrible - rip them off However my current car (BMW 323i) came with a very unabtrusive and tastfull sticker that just says Moterline BMW. If was stuck on the rear window on the black stip across the bottom - so you cant even see it from the inside. Plate surrounds Same thing, if they were giving out plate covers / protectors instead of just surrounds I would keep them on but the surrounds they put on are usually just a plastic srtip and look cheap (of course they look cheap because they are). My wife just got a new Camry Sportivo V6. it was silver with silver personal plates (black letters) Her car looked heaps better just by taking the cheap surrounds off. Silver car, silver plate edge, black plate border (1cm in from edge) then more silver then the black letters - look much better now. My current car came with proper plate protectors WITHOUT any advertising at all - cool. (in fact someone stole the front slim-line protector and the dealer replaced it at no charge.)
  21. I ordered mine on Tuesday (April build - early May delivery - what a wait!!) (I'll just have to keep reading these forums and drooling over cars at the dealers) Venom Sequential Auto Leather interior 5x 18" Alloys Premium Audio Side Airbags XR scuf plates XR mats Tinted windows 1600Kg tow pack Phone presenter Paint protection 6 year warrenty
