  1. Something else I'd like to add. The newer roots, screw chargers are much much much more efficient than they used to be and, though will not get on par with centriv's with the current design, are pretty close now. Though, yes they do produce a little more heat and this needs to be considered. Also note that the inlet charge is also warmer with a screw/roots as intercooling is hard to do and isn't as efficient (usually involves just sticking some cooling fins (like air con) between the manifold and the charger). BUT, what turbo's and cent' chargers do not do is give you INSTANT, and I mean absolutely instant 100% power at the flick of the throttle. Greater power gains are also to be made with a screw without as much modification (as in, less piping). Guess why everything 'competative' Pro stock and over use Chargers over turbos? (appart from a few buzz boxes and v6's). Cause there is power to be made with these suckers that nothing else can match. I wanna see one of these blowers on our boss and I6, I mean, I REALLY want to see this happen. It will be absolutely awesome watching an instant responce, near 1000hp I6 flogging the crap out of everything in the weight class. Pls, scew the Sob!! :D
  2. Just wondering mate, are these going to be left on the car all the time? If that's the case then you need to consider which are going to last the longest for the amount of grip you are going to get. If those 2 are fairly even in terms of grip, simply go for the one that will last the longest. Other than that, just get the widest set you can find . How about getting some 10 inch wide rims and sticking some real rubber on the machine mate? like, 295+
  3. Please warn us before you ever come to sydney (and for how long) so I can plan on using public transport for said week.

Post some that support your own.... I'm a passionate Ford supporter, I always have been, sometimes even a little over passionate. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all into modding, but this is just (in my opinion) not a quality mod to do because of my previous statements (product differentiation is really all I'm worried about)... Sigh, well now that im officially over it, just post some pics and run 12's, that's what you now have to do to keep the bonnet

    Rail gun

with a muzzle velocity of about say, 2km/s, I think the 60' time would be somewhere in the vicinity of 50uS (nano seconds). Hrmm, I wonder if we could fire an entire car out of one..... ps, this thing is what fired at 16km/s.... That is just incredible. Also note that in that picture, that is purely plasma you are seeing, there are NO explosives in that cannon, absolutely no fuel what so ever. You are seeing pure plasma propel an object.

    Rail gun

http://www.powerlabs.org/railgun.htm Well, if anyone has ever played quake3 or something, they would have heard of a rail gun.... Well, for a few years now actually, rail guns have been 100% working and launching things at rediculously high speeds. This guy in particular has made one that launches to about 3km/s and you can see some test firing and allot of information on that page. If you scroll to the bottom, you will see one that is on the back of a semi, it launched something to 16km/s. Anyone who does engineering will understand most of what hes on about, check the rest of his site out also, allot of awesome infromation on there. Oh, he also makes a jet turbine from a truck turbo, and launches a golf ball to about 3 times the speed of sound..... Enjoy!

Yes well anyway. I just think it is destroying the identity of the cars, that's all im trying to get at. Its looking like something you are not, is that to hard to understand? For instance, I saw an XR8 come up behind me allong Windsor rd today. I instantly knew it was an XR8 because of the buldge alone. If it went past and all of a sudden I see its a turbo, but with a buldge, it would instantly look out of place. And I did see boofs car thank you very much, and it was a great car. Too bad he had the buldge, not saying it looked bad, no no no, it was simply out of place, but appart from that it was an unreal car. From what I've read Mr. Gaee is a fairly smart cookie and a top bloke, he can also spell and put together coherant sentences (you wouldn't happen to be an engineer would you G?). Anyways, nothing more needs to be said. It just looks out of place and blurs the line between 6 and 8 cylinders.
  8. I cannot wait to see the outcome of this.... Twin screw charger whining away out front, through a massive shaker, pulling 10's.... Ahh I can see it now :D I was thinking last night about mounting it..... That could cause some issues but looking under the bonnet of the Ghia, the is a fair bit of room there once the airbox and standard intake architecture is removed. I think it would be a semi "stick it in on an angle like maori" job, but I think its possible. Your shaker should most definately improve things with space, though, it maybe have to rise a little bit (turn the thing into a pro stock scoop, go on!). hehe. Anyways, keep us posted man, this sounds really interesting.....
  9. There we go, it ain't much but I know how every little bit counts so. 20 bucks into your account... PC, netbank had a cry at me for trying to put a . in the account name.... Geez the people who make bank sites are retarded...
  10. Very well done guys, this is what its about aint it? Getting one hell of a cruiser that pulls 11's without having the economy of a 600cu big block. Awesome effort, if you 2 guys put some really sticky, low pressure black ones out back, damn it will be a site to see. Ok, who is going to be the first to wheel stand a BA??? (the physics say its near impossible with this wheel base, but many big wheel based cars running 9's in the US are wheel standing). The next big goal? :D "tell him hes dreaming"

It will look like an XR8 as long as it has a buldge, period. I have a better idea, slam it, put it on 20's and make it run 11's... My idea > trying to look like an xr8 (regardless of what else you do). Look, I'm obviously not going to change what you do, its your chioce with your bonnet, but allot of Ford fans (what do they say, its usually the silent majority? Which I'm usually part of... Just happened to have broken the silence this time) will not like it. I have NEVER seen a 6 with the buldge to this day. Doesn't mean they don't exist, just means I have not yet had the unfortunate opportunity to see one. I don't care if I spell a few things wrong, its not about that whether I am a mobile dictionary or the worlds best typist, its about being readable. You can't even form a coherant sentence. For a 36yo that says quite a few things. This is the last thing im going to say on this issue, period, so just improve it and get over it Back to the topic. I've stirred the pot enough, and frankly I don't like it.
  12. Lawsy, Are you a mind reader just what I had in mind. Dynowog would the 9.7 compression ratio on the N/A compared to the 8.7 compression ratio make that much of a difference, to total performance. macka I had a feeling that you were interested in something with a little more omph to it, so I found this while I was apparently finishing an eng com report.... :D Was trying to find a picture of a top fuel motor to stick under it just for fun, but damnit I couldnt get one. You would think googling "top fuel engine pictures" would have come up with at least 1 site which dedicated to top fuel engines with pics......

I think you have missed the point guys. The buldge has a reason on the XR8. As for better airflow for the T, you have goto be joking (and im sure as a fellow engineer Eugene would agree), it is going to make absolutely 2/10s of stuff all difference. Mackas shaker is the best CIA for the turbo, it therefor has PURPOSE, not to mention it is based on something from 30 years ago, not something from the EXACT SAME MODEL RANGE. It's not likely that someone is going to see mackas car and go "hey, nice XY, oh wait, its a BA!".... But I'm sure from the front at a glance, many people are going to say "hey, look, an XR8.... Wait a minute, its a 6. What the hell is that guy doing with a buldge? I thought that was for the 8s only?"... Get my drift? If you don't, then re read it, think long and hard about it untill you do. Trying to look like something your not (slower or faster, still implying you have an is just not on, it does NOT have purpose. And no, I'm not a school teacher, but reading "a sentence that ishas no fullstops and half the apaces are misisng and everythig ns typed wrong and then they forget to take out words when theysemi edit it and words that are meant to look iteligent are spelt completely wonr" are not only frustrating to read, but take any power/meaning out of your posts. It makes you instantly look like a child, which obviously you aren't. Whats more frustrating is it doesn't take much to simply proof read your posts before you hit reply. PS, stang, never said it looked rice, I said it destroyed product differentiation and is simply try hard. Also, your last post was not much better. Relaxing and being legibal are 2 very different things. I type like this when I'm most relaxed. It has meaning and can be read by anyone, without the need for a translator. It's called common courtesy for your fellow foromers to make it easier for them to read your posts.

Whoevers NA is punching 259 rwkw is a top effort, that's the same hp as a stock T. Got a timeslip yet? that would be damn interesting!

    Brakes scraping

Oh, and if you have larger wheels this decreases brake pad wear also. See reasons above.

    Brakes scraping

well at 32000 depending on your driving style, they just may well be worn. Which brakes do you have on it? stock or premium? I don't know if you thrash it or not, but I have to ask this. Are you a late braker or do you brake early and evenly for most stops? Harder braking is what wears pads, soft consistant braking simply heats them up without actually 'sanding' the pad away. Brake pads are infact fairly difficult to wear away without allot of preasure. Also, do you normally do city or highway driving, towing, or have occupants in the car? It all contributes and if you constantly have a little bit of extra weight in the car then your driving style (late braking, or early constistant) will be exaggerated. Anyways, this is how I see it. Premium package, you are looking at 50, 000km before you get to the safety mark on the pads if you are fairly spirited in your braking. extend that out to even 100 000 if you are really light with your braking or do allot of highway driving (allot more k's without having to brake at all). Stockers are about the same, just add about 10 - 20 or so to the figures. Remember, larger rotors increase the contact speed at the pads. Remember, relative speed = distance over time, since larger rotors have a much larger circumference, the relative velocity at the circumference is much larger. For any given rpm, the speed at the contact area for larger rotors is increased greatly and therefor will wear down the pads faster. I know this is a bit of a "gee thanks cpt. obvious" post, but sometimes we forget the basics and its always good to be reminded every now and then.

English please guys. I'm not teasing, but it takes allot of effort to read a post that has the grammatical skill of a 5 year old. Proof read, use full stops and commas when you think you would normally take a breath while speaking. As for the bonnets, leave the XR8 bonnet for the 8's. It is there not only because it needs to be, but also because it is the sole thing that differentiates the 2 models from the front. You really are a try hard if you stick it on your 6. As for mackas shaker, it is an original design based off the shaker on the GTHO's. It is different story to getting an XY shaker and sticking it on an XY falcon 6, and badging it as a GTho. That would be stupid and you wouldn't hear the end of it. This is the same story, its the same model car, yet you are putting the V8 neccessity on your 6. If you get bagged out, I will not only join them but will say "I told you so" when they do.

    back fireing

Bit of trail off sounds awesome on the t's though (not as good as on the 8's but meh...).
  19. Hrmm, just leaving it in 4th(sss) or 5th (manual) for wet overtaking is the solution.... You would still have enough grunt there to overtake as if standard but should be allot easier to prevent wheelspin. Now this might seem like a captain obvious type comment, well it isn't. When you are driving in the wet, most people simply do not think about it enough and just use the gear that they would normally use for any given situation... You just need to add a gear to whatever you do to be sure. Hell, even in dads standard ghia 6, traction is an issue in 2nd (though the ghia's don't have lsd, damnit) coming out of say, toll gates.
  20. Haha, love it. So ahhh, hows the spare tyre going
  21. Played baseball for 8 years as a pitcher, lets just say people didn't look forward to playing against me when I was throwing my hardest. Something about watching a ball simply apear to increase in size as it travells towards you're head at 140km/h that they didnt like, oh well.......
  22. Well, I can tell you where in a few fear factory songs it starts to distort, but I guess that isn't going to help all that much .
  23. The thing is, getting a 10 inch of the same model is almost the same price, because 8" subs aren't made in mass quite like 10's and 12's (the most popular sizes by something like 3 to 1). Ford need to redesign the parcel shelf so we can have a 10 incher and some truely deep bass (still won't be all that loud, but a litltle bit louder than the . Don't get me wrong, im not a doof doof fan, not at all as I like a bit of metal, but I come from having 6k worth of sound gear alone for my home theatre. I'm so used to having the ability to hit the big notes with force, yet still remain subtle and clear (if you get my drift). Some notes you feel rather than hear.... I'm just too picky I think. Beggers can't be choosers.
  24. Nah it looks epic the way it is, don't paint it. So I'm assuming it does a fairly good job as a cold air force feeder? Wonder if the old boy will let me stick one on his ghia Ahhh hehehehe
