  1. I think we should just wait and see what mph he doesn't next time he goes out.... My guess? 9.9x @ 138 to 142mph... Yeah baby!
  2. I got an entire cat back exhaust on my astina done for 220.... And he actually does a good job.

    1/4 Mile Times

13.6 is a very good time, for what is done to his car, (I think he said he has cold air duct) but either way he has drove it real well to get the 60ft to run that time, and it takes a good car to, mine could only run a 13.9@101, and that was hard to get But that is still a great time nonetheless mate... And your current time in the 11's, for your current power, is also damn good quality... You've done really well actually... ----- Like I said somewhere else, I'd love to see a stock engined T (you can change ANYTHING ELSE, but the T must have nothing more than cold air) with virtually stock weight (spare removal, maybe even rear seat... big maybe) run a 12 second pass.... If someone could find a locker diff, with a 5.11 center (one that can handle the T's stock power) and put this through a high stall and down to some really sticky slicks, I reckon you could get a 12.8 out of it... Think about it: With a shift kit and some strength work, the 4 speed would slam into each gear, so you won't lose any time because of the gearbox. The engine would be turning at about 5000rpm in 4th gear, getting you over the line at 165km/h... Yeah; that would get a 12 I reckon... Damn it would suck on the road though, as 1st gear peaks at 52km/h at redline (5800) and you would have to have 3400rpm to do just over 111km/h... Go Go, Cpt. Fuel Efficient...!! I wonder how the ZF 6 speed would go with a set of 4.11's.... Hrmm... Well, on the road, the ZF and 4.11's would hit 110km/h at just under 2750rpm in 6th, which isn't completely horrible... Infact, that would be awesome! The extra average tractive effort from having 4.11's would also be something like 20% higher (obviously that doesn't mean 20% faster though). That would go really hard, and because of the short 1st gear, it would hook up well on slicks. I actually think the new BF, when mated to the ZF 6 speed and shorter diff centers, will supprise the utter crap out of alot of people. I also think we'll see alot more diff changes becoming a more popular option for an easy and quick performance increase. I can see strengthened 3.73 diffs becoming very popular... Remember, 6th gear has a ratio of 0.69 in the ZF and 4th gear has a ratio of 0.68 in the BTR. This simply means that whatever is deemed to be a perfectly streetable diff gear now, will be just as streetable when mated to the ZF 6 speed. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference at cruise. I really think some seriously unexpected times are going to be run with this new gearbox (and added torque)... I really do.... I for one, Can't wait!
  4. Oh that is nasty..... Fell asleep at the wheel?

    Do You Smoke?

Lmao. I think I might have aswell! What would you 2 have done with your time otherwise? Smoked each other? Pfft.
  6. Oh this sounds fairly interesting. I don't mind the old 31's. They're quite a cool yet old school, rear wheel thrash machine.... Some of which give quite a few people a scare....
  7. This is true. Back when I used to play computer games, we had the ozforums for the UT community. Massive UT forum, best forum out. The point of the forum? Any and everything goes, but it was for the UT community. So sure, many game related questions and posts were made, but random, absolutely off topic threads and posts were made and we all had the best laugh. Yes, we kept the personals out of it, or we didn't let to much blatant bandwagoning happen. It has roughly 10 times more posts than this entire forum in about 5 years. That forum is fairly dead compared to how it used to be, and its all because the moderators started to police the wrong things. They focussed to much on the 'off topic' and the sly comments, and almost completely ignored the blatant attacks and bandwagoning. It needs to be the complete opposite, the blatants get removed, but leave the sly little digs in there. Don't worry to much about the topic, even if its a little off, because it might get somewhere.
  8. Love your work dude, but those jags are nice and comfy, you can't go past that sometimes.... My brother had a fully rebuilt 2L cosworth motor in an old esky, with the rs quad trumpet, twin webbers (or are they Holley's? Can't remember..). Fairly lumpy cam, tough head work and a meaty set of extractors. The sound was odd though, quite odd, it really barked but never droned... That thing went nuts, reved to 8 grand still pulling hard... Much traction was lost..
  9. I mean to say that above 5800rpm on the stock turbo the car does not make good power. It would be best to shift down a gear and get back into the car's power band. Having said that, the increase of the rpm in 3rd gear for autos would be good for going above 124mph or thereabouts, just don't expect it to pull hard when doing so. For use on the street it's a non-event really. I strongly disagree with you steve if you where to do a bit of research on "optimun gear shifts"you would soon realize with the muiltipaction of torque from your gear ratio that there is a huge benifit from being able to hold 1 and second gear for longer into the rev range. TBO, I whipped up a quick comparison in your other thread so that you could see the numbers behind the reasoning, that completely backs up your point of view, assuming you are running the current 4 speed auto. Its quite interesting to note that if you have the injectors and valve springs to support it, not only do you make more wheel torque till about 7200rpm (compared with the wheel torque of the next gear) but you make roughly 15% more average power than if you had shifted at 6000rpm.... That is if you have a torque curve that is only dropping at roughly 6% per 500rpm (of peak) after 5700rpm... but then what do I know, I can't get my lard arsed ute properly off the line yet cheers Yes but when it does it will be one damn quick ute... Hey, I was purely talking about having the engine to support it... I said injectors and valve springs, but I also meant pistons, rods, bolts and H beams Umm, when you do have all of that, you can level the boost and fuel curve off after the normal redline... This was purely hypothetical, but if you take a look at my other thread you'll see why... The tractive effort at the wheels, in most cases, is higher (even with less engine torque) at redline than at peak torque in the next gear... And this was with a car not tuned to run above 5500rpm that had significant drop off. Like I said, flatten the boost and fuel after 5500rpm and power will either keep rising or level off. With that, your tractive effort will almost certainly be higher at redline than in the next gear at the same speed.... This = more average power to the road which in turn means more acceleration over the quarter... Less time, more mph.. Its all good!

    Do You Smoke?

You should also note how many people got personal in comparison with the poll results....

    Do You Smoke?

I'm only appologising because my thread subtitle pointed the finger at all smokers. that's all I'm appologising for. I still think that if you smoke, you have made a poor life decision and that it is an extremely selfish one at that. I still hate the smell of smoke, and I still think that this dude that sat next to me had the most fowl, vomit inducing odore that I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing... It was that bad. And stang, they did take it personally, because they started attacking me, personally... They didn't attack what was said, they attacked me, my belief and my intelligence. If that isn't personal then nothing is... Especially considering alot of it came from an illiterate newbie jumping on a bandwagon, someone who should know better and someone who has only read 2 of my posts, the others are just sheep, folloing a leader in a hope that people will think they are cool. So yeah, I'm appologising for the poll and the subtitle. For the rest, you can suck my arse and floss! Just kidding...... Cheers, have a good one!

So if all the edit did was allow you to shift at 6200rpm and level the power curve a little, instead of 5800rpm then drop, you would have, at a guess, 4% more average power at the wheels than before.... If talking in mph, that's worth about 2-3mph on a stock T...
  13. You have to remember, the paint we are getting is sprayed on like any other metalic paint.... The stuff on that car is something else, much more expensive.
  14. HOLY CRAP. that's all I have to say... Or not. I just did a quick torque calculation based on where it should peak... And, erm.... Lets just say its more than impressive. How does nearly 1.4 Newton kilometers AT THE WHEELS sound.... With more boost, I'm guesstimating nearly 1.6Nkm, if hes running over 680rwkw.... that's quite alot... Infact, that's just scary. Love your work!
  15. Its funny you guys mention this, was doing a bit of theory on this the other day, but the maths is quite simple... We all torque () in power for a reason. That reason is this, if you have a car geared relatively well, then you want to shift so you have maximum area under the power curve from the shift points. Power, in a sense, gives you an idea of the tractive effort through each gear in comparison to the next, if you will.... In theory, this is completely wrong, but in a practical sense, the average tractive effort through each gear mates perfectly with optimising the area under the power curve. Its actually quite amusing at how well all of the various power, torque and tractive effort comparison(s)/graph(s) all come together perfectly to give you the best indication of where to shift. Physics, its a wonderful thing! The maths is simple, but involves torque and tractive effort more than power to get the point accross. Your torque values are in NM 6500 318.8 6000 404.7 5500 445.4 5000 472.8 4500 490.5 4000 510.9 * max torque 3500 490.3 This is what the tractive effort table looks like, all I've done is multiplied the overall gearing by torque(Nm), all over the rolling radius (mm), eg (318*(2.5*3.45)*1000)/300 = 9179.5 Here goes. 2.5 1.49 1 0.68 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 9179.5* 5471.0* 3671.8* 2496.8 11653.2 6945.3* 4661.3* 3169.7 12824.4 7643.3 5129.8 3488.2 13614.7 8114.4 5445.9 3703.2 14125.0 8418.5 5650.0 3842.0 14711.7 8768.2+ 5884.7+ 4001.6+ 14118.5 8414.6+ 5647.4 3840.2 As you can see, no where in 2nd gear do you have more tractive effort than you do at redline in 1st gear. This anoys me because it seems that every gearbox manufacture spreads 2nd gear to far away from 1st.... Most gearboxes accomodate a 6000rpm TORQUE band. No car makes 80+% torque through 6000rpm, or none that I know of.... 2nd gear is always too long it seems... Anyway.. So, infact, you could increase the rev limit, as long as your engine is capable, another 200rpm (to 6700rpm) and still be going faster than otherwise following the current trend of your information. Its all about the gear spacing. With the new 6 speed however, its similar, but you can see clearly that, once out of 2nd gear, the gearing definately helps to get a higher average tractive effort, or power figure, to the tarmac than the current 4 speed (this is with the correct diff ratio also). 4.17 2.34 1.52 1.14 0.87 0.69 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 12116.0* 6798.9* 4416.4* 3312.3* 2527.8* 2004.8 15381.0 8631.0* 5606.5* 4204.9* 3209.0* 2545.1 16926.8 9498.5 6170.0 4627.5 3531.5 2800.8 17970.0 10083.9 6550.2 4912.7 3749.1 2973.5 18643.6 10461.9 6795.7+ 5096.8+ 3889.7+ 3084.9+ 19417.9 10896.4+ 7078.0 5308.5 4051.2 3213.0 18635.0 10457.0 6792.6 5094.5 3887.9 3083.5 The asterix denote at roughly what point you should shift, and the plus signs denote where you hope the revs don't drop below. As you can see, with the 6 speed you can shift slightly earlier with this power curve, but still accelerate faster than if you have the 4 speed. This is because the average applied tractive effort until Vmax will be greater... This means that you would shift at redline in 1st (or 6900 if you could), 6300rpm in 2nd, at 6200 for 3rd and 4th, then at 6000 in 5th... So just from looking at those figures and doing a rough average, you can clearly see that there's alot more tractive effort, on average, applied to the tarmac with the ZF6 speed than what is possible in the current 4 speed. You would also only need about 6000rpm to do the same thing with the ZF. Hope that helps.

    Do You Smoke?

I just get a little disapointed that people can back you up in one thread, get as much information from you in another, then turn up and nail you to the wall like this. I don't mind, I've got more mates around me who encourage me, and the things I do, than not. So this doesn't really affect me. But it shouldn't have gotten to this. I shouldn't have put the "and do you realise you smell like arse" in the thread title. I feel that is the single line that set the anger meter from 'pissed off' to 'genocide' mode. My bad, but no harm done to me. I just hope that most people on the forum saw through the crap and realised that I was just damn pissed off at how much this guy stunk, and that I was a clear anti smoker. Just a tad disapointed that it got so personal over so little. Meh, anyways, you stir the pot, then prepare for the aftermath!

    Do You Smoke?

Spot on... Yet for some reason others just hate people, rather than what they do. [edit] Yep, that means I actually don't hate Steve (Geeseman) as a person, I just don't like his ignorance for example... But never have I hated him. Just clearing that up (not sure why, but felt that I needed to).
  18. Lawsy

    Do You Smoke?

Well then... If this is what its come to then I appologise. If my comments have stirred you up this much, that you feel you need to come at me with personal attacks and insolence, then I appologise that you thought I was directing my comments at you. Most probably, I wasn't. You could be the cleanest smoker alive. So it wouldn't apply to you, it would only apply to the selfish cops who truely have utter disrespect to everyone in there local area. This, almost positively, is not you. I appologise for the thread title and for poll option number 4. They were too generalised and pointed the finger at more people than I intended. So, fair go guys. No hard feelings, but I'm just another bloke working his way through life, trying to make the most of it and wanting to have a bit of a chat on the side. I've got an opinion, just as you do. I've got things that people do that I hate, so do you, but I don't come on a forum bagging you out for them. One of my hatreds is the smell and some of the actions of some(not all) smokers. Now, if I've never met you then why do you take offense to this? In real life, you could be the nicest bloke I'll ever meet, and if you are courteous with how you smoke, I truely wouldn't mind and it wouldn't detract from my view of you as a person. So, again, I appologise, I've had a nice little sleep on it, and I've come to my senses. This poll was just asking for it. I hope you can accept this and allow me to move on from here so I can get back to what I do best, technical dribble and proving geeseman wrong. Please don't attack my intelligence over this either. that's truely below the belt, this is my subjective opinion on a non intellectual topic. It has nothing to do with my education or level of maturity, so don't go there, that's childish... And even if you consider what I posted to be childish, does that mean you automatically have to be childish also? I didn't think so. Take it easy, enjoy your day.

    Do You Smoke?

A XR6T with a gutted cat would still be spewing out less noxious fumes than your old Pimptara! Does the Pimptara even have a catalytic converter? The key is, you don't drive around with a piece of garden hose from your exhaust pipe into your mouth now, do you... You aren't directly inhaling this, and it isn't directly affecting the next person you come into contact with. The comparison is stupid.
  20. Damn... that's looks brilliant mate, good job.

    1/4 Mile Times

Er, re read what this was in reply too... I think you need to just stop, breath, take a look at yourself and ask what your motivation is for trying to pick up on my simple attempt at keeping it realistic. And why is it, that just because you haven't come accross various calculators with such errors, that they automatically don't exist? There have been plenty of crap ones out there from time to time. Give me a break... The internet wasn't invented yesterday, some people still manage to find some of the most rediculous calculators. I only recently found a pound to kilogram converter that said it was 15.4 to 1..... Seriously, ever since I pointed out that some manufacturers, engineers and automotive designers use higher ratio in its true, mathematical sense to indicate a shorter gear, you have done nothing but be a pain in the arse to me. And unlike some blokes around here, I don't like anything around my arse, thank you very much. Yet, I don't show you the same disrespect? There is only 1 person on this forum that clearly has no respect for everyone else, and accordingly gets no respect. I'm not that person. I have posted quite a bit of helpful, constructive information, encouraged others and sure, had a dig at others as well... On average, I'm no worse or better than the next guy. So give it a rest please! Take a step back; and breath.

    Do You Smoke?

spot on jet It was primarily directed at 1 guy. If you smoke and use deoderant, you don't smell like arse anymore, so you aren't included. If you are careful where you smoke, how much you smoke and what you do after you smoke, you won't smell like arse either, again, omitted... I don't see the problem. Hell, if you want me to start attacking, I could, but I won't. PS, the last point doesn't need to have any votes if you are a considerate smoker. Pick the right poll choice, its simple, and then it doesn't apply to you. There should only be 3 people, according to the poll, who have any right to have a dig.

    Do You Smoke?

I love a cold beer now and then, I love red wine, port and various spirits.... Cmon, I'm a mechanical student... Sometimes drinking is all we do. No not really, I'm not a big drinker, but I used to be. Yes I have smoked in the past, but quickly stopped before a habbit could start. Just don't see why all the personals have to come out... I had a go at 1 guy that no one here would know (I guarantee it) and yet I'm copping flak for it? So its ok for you guys to get pissed off at me, but its not ok for me to get pissed off at some smelly indian who smelt worse than a hobo with a years worth of skidmarks down his dacks... Real fair.

    Do You Smoke?

I know, I'm not sure why they are so damn touchy over this. Plus I've never seen this on here before, so I'm not sure where all this "its been covered before" crap has come from. Its disgusting, its killing people, its costing money to fix and it is an addiction that destroys peoples lives. Why the hell do people defend this? Rights or not, its self destruction, and everyone else has to deal with the smell and poor health from their selfish habbit. Sorry if I hit a nerve, but get over it. Smoking is disgusting, and when you have to sit next to someone, having to stay there because no other places are available and you are in the middle of something, its frustrating as when one of the worst smelling smokers you have ever had to smell sits next to you. It normally doesn't bother me, but THIS WAS BAD. This was so bad that I dry reached. The problem is, its now too common for people to smoke and get in your face afterwards.... Its just not on. So get over the personals. I did attack this smally guy, because it was THAT BAD and it was just as I was posting on the forums, but he will remain anonymous... I didn't go out of my way to attack anyone else.
