  1. I'm pleased to report you were spot on mate. It was indeed the water pump o-ring issue. Problem has been fixed and car is back to normal :D I think you jinxed me Tas, mine is now leaking from what appears to be the water pump! It's booked in Monday at Westpoint for repair action. Oh well, at least I wasn't surprised when I saw a puddle under the car last night and the header tank half full. Good to hear yours is all fixed. Did they just replace the o-ring or the entire pump?
  2. All you LED experts.... Is it possible to just swap the red LED from an aftermarket car alarm for a blue one? Is the current too high at all?? Or can I just swap one straight in? Keen to have a matching blue LED for the alarm warning light. TIA for any assistance.

First, lost a few days with Anzac weekend. Now dealer fitting... Alarm Tint Tow Bar Mud Spats Also Sunroof, the dealer convinced me I'd get a better quality one if I went after market. I hope he is right. The wait is killing me... I'd be keen to know what your opinion is of your aftermarket sunroof. I'm thinking of doing the same. Please let us know how it goes..
  4. Firstly let me also say, "What a great site and thanks to ALL involved!" A couple of suggestions: - I agree with a FAQ, I've been on new sites before and after several months the older members get tired of the same questions being asked time and time again, a FAQ area will address most of this. (could contain common/known problems, specifications, new car wait times etc.) - Another feature that could be good would be an area with tech writeups, ie. power window illumination, footwell lights etc. this will save people asking about these and having to find them within the forum. Just my 2c worth!
  5. Saw what looks like a BA XR6 copcar on Blue Heelers last night right at the end when they preview next week. Looks like it will be shown in next weeks show. Looked damn good!
  6. Tas, sounds like it might be the water pump o-ring problem that Ford are having a few problems with at the moment. Should be an easy enough fix. Good luck and let us know how you go.
  7. I don't think it's rice, if you like the look of the XR8 bonnet (I know I do) there shouldn't be any reason not to fit one. I think it is similar to adding the footwell lights to a non-Fairmont as several of us have already done, are we trying to make our cars something they aren't? I don't think so, we are just personalising them. As long as the XR6 or XR6 Turbo badges aren't swapped for XR8 badges what's the problem??
  8. This may or may not solve Potai's problem. Does the screen dim if you push the fog light button in (and turn on the fog lights) during the day? Potai appears to want to drive with his fog lights on not just his headlights.
  9. That's strange, I didn't think the Ford alarm had a shock sensor... Anyone know what the Ford alarm DOES have?
  10. Good idea. Out of interest, where do Ford fit the bonnet pin switch when they install the alarm? Would you have any photos of the bonnet switch and the siren? Where did you purchase your shock sensor from? Thanks
  11. Thanks for that, I can read that one. Do you require the switch for high and low sensitivity? When do you switch between them? Thanks again.
  12. That's a great idea NT TURBO. How many wires are there to connect and where did you connect to? Is it wired in parallel with the bonnet switch? Is the switch so you can isolate the sensor? That might be the go, Ford alarm and add a shock sensor  Also, any chance of a readable scan of the spec sheet, I know, I ask a lot Thanks
  13. Do you have any photos/details of your install, I would be very interested.
  14. Do you have any photos of your install? Where did you fit it etc? Does it work well?
  15. Locking nuts are only standard with 18" wheels, not 17" wheels. Yes I feel they have paid for themselves!
  16. I was out driving to the ANZAC Day march this morning and I noticed a very quite droning noise coming from the front of the car (only reason I heard it was because the radio was down as I was on the phone). My first thought was "oh no a flat" but the car didn't feel down on one tyre. Pulled over and after investigations found the front left wheel was missing 4 wheel nuts, the lock nut was the only nut left! I had driven about 10 kms from home before hearing the noise, I was doing about 80 km/h when I pulled over. It could have all ended very badly if the wheel had come off! Removed one nut from each of the remaining three wheels so I could continue on my way. Lucky I kept the 4 left over nuts from when I fitted the lock nuts, as I fitted these when I got home. I also removed the wheel to check for damage, there was nothing wrong with the wheel studs, brakes or the wheel. I assume the wheel couldn't have been missing the nuts for too long. I'm not sure what has happened, either someone has removed them trying to steal the wheel or as a sick joke, or they have somehow worked loose (strange the lock nut was still there). Well, it has prompted me to investigate the installation of a decent alarm (ie one with a shock sensor etc) to ensure this may not happen again. I know the Ford alarm lacks this feature so can anyone provide any recommendations with approx prices fitted in Melbourne? Thanks
  17. I've been told the same thing, the spare, if directional, is normally mounted for the LHS, as the left normally gets taken out by kerbs etc much more oftem than the RHS.
  18. Thanks guys for the excellent write ups. It's all a lot clearer now. Mine appears to be the same as yours K1W1 (Fairmont Style). A couple of questions before I do it if that's OK?: - What did you use for the extra pin (resistor leg maybe)? - Did you use standard 3mm LEDs? - Did you drill holes for the components (LEDs and resistor) legs or did you surface mount them? - I see you used a 680 ohm resisitor, did you experiment with the value a bit? I did the maths using a 3.5V drop for each LED and a circuit current of 20 mA and came up with about 250 ohms for the dropping resistor, using the info supplied by you guys I can assume this would be far too bright!? Thanks again for both write ups NT TURBO and XR6TK1W1 and I look forward to your write up of the driver's switch unit XR6TK1W1.
  19. Thanks guys, I have the premium version. I took a look at one of my single switches to get a bit of an idea. A couple of questions after my first look: - What resistor did you use for the single switches when using two LEDs? - did you have to drill holes to use non-surface mount components? - is it worth using surface mount components? I would greatly appreciate a diagram K1W1.
  20. K1W1 & NT TURBO> would either of you like to make up a tech write up to cover the installation of LEDs in the switches of both the premium sound equipped cars and non-premium sound cars? After reading your posting and viewing the photos I also want the mod! Your pictures K1W1 look like the resistor is actually on the board and not the leg of the LED, is this correct? Looks very neat!
  21. Had my 3000km "service" yesterday and requested the oil and filter were changed at the same time. Also had the pollen filter installed. Noticed a sign at the Westpoint Ford Service desk stating "Rotors are only covered under warranty until 50,000kms", I was a bit surprised to see that. If mine go after 50,000 kms and before the factory warranty expires I'd be arcing up at the service guys!
  22. Does anyone know for sure what the changes Ford made to the post March build car's exhausts? Tas, I agree with Turbo6man, give Craig an email and ask him what the go is, if it is only the rear muffler that has changed I'd be asking to change it to the earlier style. I'm sure Craig and Westpoint will look after you.
  23. I found it easiest to remove the socket from the drivers side (very easy, just give it a quarter twist) and then insert the globe and put the whole lot back in. The socket is best found by removibng the fuse cover and having a good look in the hinge area. I agree with the assumption that the lamps are only in the cars fitted with premium sound, I think that Ford must install the Ghia wiring loom as part of the premium sound option (this may explain why premium sound is a factory option only). I wonder what else is there waiting to be found?
  24. Thanks YCL, good find, just fitted the globes to mine and am extremely happy!
  25. Mine keeps coming up and saying, "Your vehicle must be retailed before requesting photos"
