  1. I took mine out last week, yes it was scary hoping I wouldn't damage the paintwork. All in all I ended up with no damage. Used a 9/16" drill bit and every hole even retained the paint in it. Here's some photos of the finished job. I'm glad they are off!
  2. If you picked one up for $200 this is an exceptional deal. I paid $300 for mine, that's the best deal anywhere I could find.

  5. Clearing the internet history and cookies fixed my problems.
  6. Old thread but: Had the new MkII Carryboy Hardcover/spoiler fitted yesterday, I think it looks A1. Horses for courses I suppose... I got the carryboy unit over the Ford one because it came with an interior fluro light, only one key to open and close the lid, has ridges in the cover that give it a chunky look and had a brake light in the spoiler. It cost about the same as the Ford unit as well.
  7. XR8s do the same thing. Is everyone elses sticker on the fan shroud near the radiator also coming off?
  8. What is required to install the gauges, ie what wiring to connect up the oil temp and pressure gauge? I take it a new sender/s are required? bcl> did you purchase direct from greenline in Japan? That must have saved a few dollars?

    What Options?

I don't agree about the prestige sound, you get a 6 stacker, 100W (vice 50W) and two tweaters. I listened extensively to both prior to my purchase and I thought the prestige sound was well and truely worth the extra $685.00. If only we could get premium in our utes, the $900.00 odd dollars is worth it just for the screen!
  10. I would greatly appreciate some photos and a bit of a tech writeup once you do the job.
  11. I am very interested as well.
  12. Can anyone give me the exact procedure for adding blue lighting to my ute window switches? Or, is anyone still keen on doing the switches for payment? Thanks
  13. The cooler is not fitted as part of any towpack on the BA. It is however fitted to the territory RWD when you order the 2300kg towpack (the AWD already has one). Can any of our Ford Parts dudes get the price on the territory kit (Part #SX7A095AA) and maybe let us know what it comes with? I believe Territory Ghia's have the trans cooler fitted from factory as well, regardles if its RWD or AWD. I will check out the cooler package tomorrow if I get time and post back a reply. Did you have any luck with the price and details on the Ford cooler? Thanks heaps.
  14. I have never liked or used a car bra, I have heard too many bad stories about them. Thanks for reminding me why I don't use one. I am about to do the same trip as you, Melbourne to Perth, I will get a bonnet protector to go with my headlight protectors and mud spats, hopefully the car won't get too stone chipped.

  16. All this talk about transmission oil cooler failures in the radiator has got me again thinking about an external cooler. - Has anyone fitted one? - Should the radiator be bypassed? (does the oil get too cold if this is done?) - If not, should the cooler be before or after the radiator?

    Advice Needed

I believe the turbos are rated at a lower tow weight because of concerns by Ford on the longitivity of the engine due to Oil Temp and other issues.

    Tyre Pressures

Now that I have been running the ute for a couple of weeks I am keen to experiment a bit with the tyre pressures. What pressures front and rear have all you ute guys found to be best?
  19. I would love to see some photos of the gauge pod. Would also love to know the price from Ford spares, I wonder how hard it will be to install?
  20. Guys, After reading through the whole thread again, I'm not too sure.... Can illuminated switches be fitted to a ute? If so, can somebody post the ute procedure? Thanks
  21. Good job on the XR8, you will not be sorry. I too was originally after a manual but found them to be rare. After getting the auto I am more than happy, I think it has a better shift feel than my old BA XR6.
  22. Be a while Jeff before many want to change the gates on the auto shifter. Scotty Yeah, I guess most people seem happy the way they are, but me, well I'd be just replacing the silly BA gate with an AU or EF/EL all-in-line type ... The BA is silly because; one, it has the tiptronic gate on the wrong side for right hand drive vehicles; and two, the tiptronic works back to front. In fact I thought that the ADRs stipulated that a tiptronic selector had to work in the "normal" way, ie forward for up changes and rearward for down changes. I don't know how Ford got around it with the BA but anyhow ... Frankly I think the BA shifter has got it all right! That's why this is my second BA with the auto. The tiptronic shift makes sense, as the car slows the weight moves forward (down a gear), as you speed up the weight makes back (up a gear).
  23. Traded in my XR6 non-turbo Sedan, March 03, 25,000kms for $30,000 on the XR8 Ute. If I work out full retail on the ute and minus the change over price I paid, I probably received about $35,000 trade in.
  24. That's a real shame!

    Brake Upgrade

Saw that yesterday, also they throw in a "free" FPV racing jacket (normally worth about $230).
