  1. G'day gents. EFSIX, I may be able to help you. MexicanBatman is a mate of mine, so I'll ask him to post an answer for you. In the mean time - have a think about this. I have a set of 20 x 8.5 & 20 x 10 Vertini Magic Blackk on my FG GT sedan. I just found out today that the rears are a +38 offset. They sit a mm or two outside the guard - not good for anyone with a substantially lowered car, mine's less than 1inch lower than standard - but they don't rub. They also - most importantly - clear the control blade by about a cm. I have 275x30/20 Nitto Invos on the rear, which also helps because they seem to be a narrow fitting 275 - as opposed to a Federal 595 EVO which seems to be a relatively wide fitting 275. I've also - in the last couple of days - ordered a set of Lenso D1Rs in 20 x 8.5 & 20 x 10 in a +42 offset for the rear. I had them pre-fitted today without tyres, just to check clearances. They sit just a hair inside the guard, and clear the control blade by about 4mm - perfect. So I'd imagine an 8inch wide rim should be somewhere between a +38, and maybe a +32 to clear the control blade on the inside and to sit inside the guard on the outside. MexicanBatman may be able to clear things up more as he's done exactly what you want to do. Cheers.
  2. G'day WORM. So I think you are who I'm needing to talk to. You seem to have done exactly what I want to do. May I ask... What wheels and what size/offset they are? Is your car lowered? Are the guards or control blade modified? Why do you think the 295s have less grip than the 275s - given all else is equal? Do you have a pic please? As I'm a newby, this is the last post I'm allowed to make today, so - I'm not being rude - but please forgive me for not posting after this one - but I'll keep reading posts for a while tonight. Cheers gents - guess I'll be back tomorrow after 10:58am.
  3. I honestly didn't find the 595 Evos that bad. Only when I got the Invos did the Federals look average in comparison. Right now though, I'd recommend Nitto Invos to anyone. I love 'em. Thanks MexicanBatman, nice car. But it doesn't show me HOW to add a pic to a post, it only shows me that YOU know how to add a pic to a post. Cheers. :-)
  4. Thanks gents. I've learnt a heap reading this thread from the start. Hopefully my new 20x8.5 & 20x10 hyper silver Lenso D1Rs will be on the GT next Thursday with my current 245x35 & 275x30 Nitto Invos. I'll get 245x30 & 295x25s soon though. :-) Can I just ask though... It says I can only post 10 times today - I assume that's because I'm new? Also, how I do attach photos to my posts? Sometimes it's simpler to show a pic that to type a heap of drivel. Thanks winstor. I'm not sure but I think that's just the fine print stuff that most people don't worry too much about. As long as the wheels/tyres look good, perform better and don't scrape or wear badly I think most people are happy with that. I think in general... If your car doesn't look too low, doesn't sound too loud, doesn't look too extreme, and all the panels are the same colour then I think most plod wouldn't even know or care. Like Tra1nrs white G6Et and CHLAXNs Nitro FG ute, and some others I've seen in this thread - they look great, very neat, they're great looking cars that look like they were modified properly and professionally, so probably aren't cop magnets. Having said that, I live in Victoria so it seems to me that you can quite happily drive around in an un-roadworthy, un-registered pile of crap with bald tyres, cut springs, no seat belt, faulty lights, talking on a mobile phone, not using indicators and driving in the right hand lane on the ring rd or freeways... But as long as you don't go more than 3k's over the speed limit, you're fine because speed cameras can't see all that other stuff!! Sorry, I was just venting, but I think you get my point. :-)
  5. I had the Federal 595 Evos as well. They are a very wide 275. I always thought they looked good, and as far as a general/sporty'ish use tyre - I think they're ok. I gotta say though, the Nitto Invos absolutely kill. I love 'em. Best tyre I think I've ever driven on, and there doesn't seem to be a downside - yet. They're smooth, quiet, tonnes of grip, they've got a killer tread pattern, good price. I don't see a problem there - maybe the supply? They can be hard to find in stock. I'm sure as the rep grows they'll be everywhere. I know what you mean about some wheels looking like 22s. When I got my FG XR8 a couple of years ago, it had 20" Dark Argents with 235x30/20s. As I found out about a week later the tyres were actually illegal because they had too low a load rating - so the dealer had to buy me 4 brand new tyres. :-) Because the side wall was so low and the wheels have a machined 5mm edge they looked huge. As far as the legalities in Vic goes - that just shows me that the law hasn't kept up with progress. eg. It's illegal to use a mobile phone or GPS while driving, but it says nothing about a tablet like an ipad etc... Sorry, of topic just a smidge. BTW. My insurance company says my 20s are fine - they didn't ask about the width. And XR09 mentioned the track width, not the wheel/tyre width. :-)
  6. G'day XR09. I won't necessarily widen the track. With a +42 it may in fact narrow it. From a starting point of a 245x35/19 tyre on a 19 x 8 FPV wheel (not sure what the base FPV offset is - anyone help with this?) it may be very similar. Imagine a standard FPV 19 x 8 wheel has - let's say - 30mm of clearance from the inside rim edge to the control blade, and also 30mm of clearance from the outside rim edge to the top of the guard. That's an inch and a bit of clearance on the inside and the outside. If we then fit a 19 x 10 with the same-as-factory offset and a wider tyre. We've just used 24.5mm from our inside clearance, and 24.5mm from the outside as well. The track stays the same. Remember, you measure track by measuring from the centre of the tread on one side of the car to the centre of the tread on the other side of the car, so you can put wider - or narrower wheels/tyres on your car - but if you always maintain the factory wheel offset the track will always be identicle. To be honest with you though XR09, I'm more concerned with the tyres rubbing and getting a comfortable ride, but that's just because - as my mate would say - I'm old. :-) I had the car lowered about 50mm and I've just last Tuesday raised it up a bit to chase comfort - and funnily enough - it actually handles better this way. Cheers.
  7. Tra1nr, those Rockstars look fantastic. Someone further back on this thread mentioned that black wheels look smaller though. Would you agree? I have 20 x8.5 and 20 x10 Vertini Magic Blackk on my GT now and they definitely look smaller. But that may also have something to do with the Nitto Invos too. They seem to be higher in the sidewall and narrower in width than other (same size) brands. The Invo 275x30s I have now look higher and narrower than the 275x30 Federals that I had on a while ago. They almost resemble a 255x40. Maybe it's just me. :-) Thanks j.d I'm ordering a set of Lenso D1Rs in hyper silver (20 x 8.5 & 20 x 10) from The Tyre Factory. I was looking at the US website (Where Lenso is called Raiden) and in 20 x 10 they only come in +32 & +42. I'm wanting to get 245x30/20 front & 295x25/20 rear at some stage soon. Overall rolling dia is within 2mm or so of FPV standard 654.05mm. Maybe the apparent narrower construction of the Invos will work in my favour to help those rears fit. The 275s look as though they're too narrow for a 10" wide rim. My mate reckons I should go 305x25, he has incredible knowledge and a beautiful G6Eturbo, but he's also slightly mentally unbalanced. Sorry MB. :-)) Only joking. Does anyone have experience fitting 20 x 10 (+42 I think) with 295x25/20s on the rear of an FG sedan that's only lowered 1"? I was thinking of just going to a 2nd hand tyre dealer to try some different widths. Any thoughts gents?
  8. That does look damn good. But what about a sedan? I reckon I'd need a +42 with a 20 x 10 on the rear
  9. From what I understand, the "dish" of any particular wheel is purely cosmetic, whereas the "offset" is a technical design specification. The design (dish) of a wheel wouldn't alter its technical (offset) specifications. The relationship between the outer rim edge, the inner rim edge, and the face plate that bolts to the disc centre (the offset) is independant of the look of the wheel (the dish). Take three very different looking wheels for eg... Dark Argent - 20 x 10 - Looks rather flat faced. Vertini Magic - 20 x 10 - A concave design that looks very dished. Lenso D1R - 20 x 10 - Five star "folded back spoke" design with a huge smooth dish. If you ordered a set of each of these wheels in 20 x 10 with a +42 offset, they would all fit (or not fit - clearance dependant) in exactly the same way. That's the way I undetstand it and I seem to have it clear that way in my head. :-)
  10. G'day all. I'm a new member - this is my first post, so pls forgive if I ask something dumb. I had an '08 XR8 in Nitro - Manual. Quad exhaust tips, rear mufflers removed and hotdogs fitted. King SL front, SSL rear. Not nuts - just very neat. It had PDW Sovereign wheels (silver) - 20x8.5 fronts with 245x35s and 20x10 rears with 275x30s. With help from a small block of wood and some careful levering - no rubbing, ever. Back in Nov '11 I picked up an '08 FG FPV GT - in black - Auto. Quad black exhaust tips, rear mufflers removed and hotdogs fitted. 1 inch lower f+r. When I got it home, I put the PDW Sovereigns on. It looked good - but I wanted black. So 2 months ago I bought a set of 20x8.5 + 20x10 Vertini Magic Blackk wheels with 245x35 + 275x30 Nitto Invos. Great tyres - best I've ever driven on (on the street). But they do look a little tall, and the rears look a little narrow - for a 275. I'm now going to order a set of 20x8.5 and 20x10 Lenso D1R's in hyper silver. I'll use the Invo's I have no idea what the offsets would've been for the PDW Sovereign's, or the Vertitni's, but apparently the 20x10 D1R's come in 2 different offsets - +32 and +42. Not sure which to get. Any ideas please? Thanks guys
