  1. Strange thing, when I get in my fg manual 2009 ute, the first couple of clutch pumps are really slow at returning. Feels pretty bad. Afterwards there doesn't seem to be an issue, drives like normal. I am running 330rwkw. Any ideas what it might be?
  2. Thanks mate. How does no BOV reduce lag? Seems to me it would keep the turbo spinning rather than stop it when you shut the throttle?
  3. My ute 2009 FG is running 330rwkw and when I am changing gear I am noticing much more lag than I used to. Now I am not sure whether this is just due to having more power or what? I am also noticing a bit of turbo flutter rather than the BOV 'Pssshhht' noise, although both noises are there. I have a pod filter and a Herrod intake and the standard Bosch BOV. Wondering if there is any way to reduce my lag and also whether this flutter may be too damaging to my turbo? I don't think its too bad but certainly more than it used to be. Any wise advice or tips? Cheers
  4. Yes it is the stock FG turbo. Doing pretty well I reckon! Did the 4inch dump and cat ages ago so will have to find my receipt. I wanted to keep the car quiet so have left the rest of the exhaust standard.
  5. Yeah I am pretty happy with that too!
  6. Thanks mate, does actually feel pretty good!
  7. I have just changed a few things on my ute and noticed the thermo fans going at odd times now. Even when I have been driving off boost and creeping around, then switch off. Anyone else had this problem?
  8. Here is what stuffed my turbo, I blocked off both ends and couldn't blow through it. Some oil must have still gone through as the ute smoked a lot!!! I burred off one of the nuts on the bottom side of the turbo (they are tapered) so ended up having to take the manifold out. Real bastard of a job as all the bolts pulled out their fair share of alloy, took huge amounts of force and I thought I was going to break them. When I reinstalled I cleaned the threads and used loctite blue. Went in OK. The aftermarket 4 inch dump pipe has no room for a ring spanner or a conventional open spanner, real bastard as well and awkward to reach Another one that I don't have a photo of was the turbo to sump feed. I was stupid and didn't bolt up the turbo side before I put it back in. Absolute nightmare to bolt up when turbo installed. Here is the old intercooler versus the new intercooler. Biiiiiiig difference. The new Process West Stage 1 was a tight fit, it also removes any rubber mounts. Bloody works though! Final Result!!!!
  9. Looks a ripper mate. I have similar power but I doubt I will be getting times like that with my manual!
  10. Either one of those power outputs sounds fun. Have a look at the power and torque curves and you get an idea about driveability. Your times on the quarter are up to you!
  11. Hi All, I was running a bit of a post in the turbo section after I blew my old snail because of the good old inline oil filter that everyone seems to know about except me! Was running 288 rwkw before this. The following mods have delivered 327 rwkw. Herrod intake650cc bosch injectorswalbro intank fuel pump4 inch dump pipehi flow catProcess West Stage 1 stepped intercooler and pipingHigher pressure actuatorPorted wastegateGapped spark plugsSCT flashEarls aftermarket inline filer and braided hoseWork done at home on the ground - Tuned at Dalton Automotive So far very happy! She goes good!
  12. Was also hard working on the ground, I only have an open air garage that gets dust and heavy rain floods it. I call working on the car like that 'man yoga'. Good strengthening.... haha
  13. Yeah burned a fair few hours. I am lucky I have a spare car. Probably saved a few $k and learned a lot. Spent about $400 on random tools I needed. All up including new parts, liquids, tune etc prob owes me $4500. Not cheap but when I compare it to my mates Porsche...... its nothing!
  14. Dalton were great to deal with, pretty straight forward and practical. They said I may need a bigger fuel pump (which I already knew). My ute was pulling 330rwkw and leaning off a little so, the bigger pump went in. I have ended up with 327rwkw @ 12 PSI and I am very happy, noticeably more power than my 290rwkw prior, also seems to have better throttle response. My 2009 xr6turbo ute (manual( has had the following modifications 4inch dump pipe and high flow cat Herrod intake Process West Stage 1 stepped intercooler and piping SCT flash tuner Gapped spark plugs 650cc Bosch injectors Walbro In tank Fuel pump Earls inline oil filter Interesting, Chris Dalton said the intercooler was very impressive and helped me to pull this kind of safe power out of these mods. Also no heat soak on the dyno and so far it has been noticeably better to drive also! This weekend :change diff oil and off I go! Thanks for all the help. Will post pictures if I ever work out how to do it!
  15. Hi All, Thought I would give a bit of an update. After a fair bit of work, the ute is back on the road. I pulled off the old turbo with some difficulty (ended up having to take off the manifold, which pulled out the alloy block in the threads, a real bastard). I then rolled down to Dalton Automotive and had a yarn to Dave down there who was helpful and knew a fair bit, which made me a little more confident, he said low 300kw would be easy. I decided I didn't want to go crazy on the turbo etc and loved the response of the original FG so got another one. Drained oil (very black) from the car and coolant (old and smelly). Meanwhile I pulled off the front of the ute and fitted the new Process West Stage 1 stepped intercooler, little bit of a job, the worst part were the plastic wheel arches and the stone shield, all the plastic parts thread or break. The new intercooler doesn't have any rubber bushings, it also comes with some brackets to 'create' some room for the new intercooler, a tight but precise fit. All the tubing was a bit of a puzzle as it didn't come with any map or numbers but got it done via instruction photos. I then installed my rebuilt turbo and put all the car back together. The turbo to sump line was an absolute nightmare! So difficult to reach, I will be checking that for leaks! I was being pretty careful and took my time and it came together quite quickly. I then installed my Earls inline filter which installed well but I don't like how it sits in the engine bay at all. New oil, filter and coolant, I also used a water wetter to improve cooling. One thing that did happen was I broke a lightbulb inside the headlight trying to unplug a corroded connector, it was very difficult to get the broken glass out of the headlight. I Anyway it all bolted up fine in the end with a few fiddly bits. The new intercooler looked pretty cool, nice and silver and shiny. On my ute it is the only giveaway as to what lies beneath. Before startup I pulled the ignition coil fuse, I put the turbo end of the oil feed into a bottle and cranked on and off until I got some clean oil, this took a while! I wanted to make sure the new expensive turbo was getting oil. I then put it all together and fired it up, it ran no worries. After a little warm up I went for a drive (off boost), there must have been a big build up of oil in the exhaust from the turbo failure as she smoked for a fair while. Anyway I dropped it off at Dalton Automotive.

So in my ute the standard turbo is stuffed. I am reading all this and as it is a daily driver and a manual I am leaning towards GTX3576 for responsiveness compared to the 82 but nobody here can really identify that as an issue? Is it just that the 82 is making so much more? As it is a daily driver I want a fairly safe tune...... so will the 76 be enough? Cheers
  17. How di I put in pictures? I uploaded some but they didn't work!
  18. Thanks for that. I will give them a call or drop in. Current update: Found this in my Cat..... should it be there? A special secret cat turbine wheel!! I rounded the last awkward nut on the turbo to exhaust manifold studs, so I ended up having to take off the exhaust manifold. Looked easy, what a *beep* of a job! Bolts pretty much pulled out alloy thread, hope it isn't too damaged to put back in! What do you reckon, new studs/gaskets? Had to grind off the nut from the stud, even with it on the workbench, totally stuck! Another question, where the hell is the best place to drain the radiator?!!??!? I have also received my Process West Stage 1 intercooler which I will begin installing. Also got my Earls Inline Filter. Haven't pulled out the factory one, but given the state my turbo is in, I assume it is totally blocked. Suprisingly no other damage that I can see from this..... yet!
  19. Same thing happening to me at the moment. What did you end up doing?
  20. So a GTX82r it is! Where do I get me one? Thanks for the help. When I bought this ute I did a quick scan of this forum, lots of handy hints, if only I had come across the thread about the inline filter. Sounds like a bloody nightmare, there is someone at Ford who should hang their head in shame, I would bet it is a bean counter. That is the kind of thing that sends companies broke... oh yeah! So plan is, remove turbo (halfway there) install Process West Stage 1 intercooler and piping, find best turbo for my setup, put it together, new coolant, oil, install aftermarket inline oil filter (earls already ordered). Maybe looking at exhaust, have 4inch dump, thinking one of those vacuum operated Nizpro ones, I like the idea of quiet off boost, loud on! Do I need anything else? Someone mentioned a walboro fuel pump? I need a 'good' tuner in Geelong. I am sick of driving to Melbourne but if I have to I will..... Any further suggestions? Yep it will cost me $$$ which I didn't want to spend but seeing as its broken, I may as well spend a bit more!!! Hopefully nothing else is damaged from this. Love some comments, I will post a few pics as I go, maybe some from having fun before she blew!
  21. Sounds like a plan... How do the 3576 and the 3582 go for lag? Assuming you mean CMS Sydney?
  22. Thanks blokes! I thought as much.... could be that bloody filter, wish I had pulled it out now. Should have seen the smoke!! Like a bushfire! Funny thing was I had just done a proper overtake on a few cars and then booooom smoke, the cars I had overtaken couldn't go past until it had cleared! Cops appeared from nowhere 'we thought someone was doing a burnout'. That would be the biggest burnout I have ever seen Car has done 80,000 km, been modded for about 15K. I do abuse it a fair bit. Time for a bigger and better turbo, might trawl the forum for ideas. Currently running 4" dump, big injectors, herrod intake making 290rwkw I did love the low down power made by the small FG turbo. Anyway, any ideas let me know! Cheers
  23. Hi All, Running a 2009 FG ute with a few basic mods, pulling 290kw at the wheels. Noticed turbo had been making a noise after switching off engine in last few weeks. Pulled out on the freeway, hit the go pedal and heard a little tinkle of a noise, then had no boost at all, engine running fine. After about 5 seconds, HUGE amounts of white smoke pouring out the exhaust (pretty much blocked the freeway) pulled straight over. Just towed it home. Any ideas what is going on? Cheers
  24. Just thought I would see what times some people have recorded for an FG xr6t manual ute? Also some autos too. Be interested in stock times rather than modified. Just seeing where my ute is at standard before I crank it!
  25. I have that steady ticking in the LH front in my 2009 FG xr6t ute, but it comes and goes a bit, isn't very often or loud but annoying when it is there. Will have a look for carbon canister and see if a bit of foam will fix it! Cheers
