  1. Thanks BRK Perusing the forum I see folks are changing diff oil... do you mean diff oil too? What about the ZF?
  2. 43 and my '08 is on its way from Sydney to Darwin I have teenagers living at home that sometimes drive the hatchback that the G6ET is replacing... although they do have their own bombs. I can't let them drive this can I? (20yr daughter and 18yr son)
  3. lol - love the advice BRK I've made an offer on a 2008 G6ET with 100k on the clock - $24k. Its been accepted but subject to inspection (I live in Darwin so am getting one of those vehicle inspection businesses to take a look and do a report). Its only silver but the silver seems like a nice bright silver.. and its only got 18" rims... she'll be right! There's some lovely cars for $10k more (like the one Dillz posted) but I really didn't want to spend that much... Probably not a good comparison but I actually had the 6sp ZF in my Discovery 3 and I loved it (although it did develop a bump going into 2nd). So yeah hopefully the inspection doesn't turn up any nasties - not too concerned with normal wear and tear as long as its been looked after. Never owned anything like this - but I've driven my friends GS a bit and it always puts a smile on my face - apart from the hard suspension (his wife hit a pothole and he had to replace the two rims on that side!) and road noise. Hmmm gotta get some levis now...
  4. Thanks for the comments folks... I guess I was asking for it a bit with a subject like that from Dillz But yeah the thoughts are helpful thanks.. any comments on the ride quality in general of the GE6 compared to an XR6?
  5. Hiya folks I was driving to work in my wife's $23k manual bouncy hatchback the other day and it occured to me that perhaps for not much more money I could be driving something a little more refined and fun. Also my teenagers have their knees around their ears in the backseat. After doing a little research I saw you can get a V8 Caprice for under $30k and they have huge back seats - but after looking at one they're a bit big! So then I started looking at the Calais range but when I read reviews most folks seemed to think that the G6ET was a better car. Not only the engine but even the interior and general quality. I've never had a strong Holden/Ford bias but (gulp) I do lean towards the looks of the newer Commodores - however I like the front end of the G6E too... a G6E is probably all I need but it seems you can get the turbo for not much more! And yeah it seems that the Ford 6 isn't so thirsty... Now I'll never be trying it out on a drag strip but I think I would occasionally like the power of the turbo even if it is mostly wasted on me... I also read that the G6E has a bit softer ride so I'd value this over a hard sports suspension - I'd also like 18" rims rather than 19" (my friend has a FPV GS with 19" rims and you can feel every pebble in the road!). Is it the right car for me? Any pointers on what to look out for in a 2nd hand car? I'm seeing on carsales 2008 models with about 100k km for under $30k...
