Hmm, this also seems like a bit of a PIT....although, perhaps slightly less so than being up in my roof. Oh yeah, terminating them and that part of things would be fine...running cables through the house, not so much. Mmmmm heat. ALWAYS run more than you think. I tell this to anyone building a house. Has anyone every actually walked into a house and thought "man, there's way too many power/data points in this house"... -
I never knew I needed a CPU cooler with live telemetry readouts on it until now...

I wouldn't mind giving data wiring a crack...but coz of the vaulted ceiling in the living area there's no way to get through the middle of the house...so would be interesting trying to get a cable from the front to the back. -
Thanks, I only recently got inspired to tidy it all up. Getting monitor stands and the stands for the speakers really neatened everything up and gave me a lot more usable desk space, which was nice. That micro itx build looks cool - I was toying with the idea of doing something like that instead of the NUC, but once I started reading how well the onboard GPU of the series 8 NUC did with plex transcoding I figured I'd save some cash and desk space. Cable management for your micro itx build looked about as much fun a job as fixing aircon ducting 🤣

Annual leave for 2 weeks as of today 😊 Gonna spend the next two weeks playing a bunch of guitar, working on some songs and just chilling out not thinking about work really. How's things on your end?

Yeah, but the main bits you can actually walk on are like 1.5m apart...my step-dad got caught out on the way out having to get from one to the other, with a giant aircon duct in the way (he was able to move it out the way on the way in because it wasn't connected), so it was a pretty big stretch in a tight space for an older fella to get across without falling through the roof or doing himself any damage. Pretty much just ended up playing hopscotch on the top of the brick walls to get to where we needed to. Mad respect for people who do that all day everyday...how's your back @JETURBO? lolol -
I started off trying to give Linux a crack on the NUC...but quicly realised I really couldn't be bothered trying to learn an entirely new ecosystem. I'm already busy trying to learn Python and new recording stuff and possibly some music theory soon...so I decided meh and repurposed a Windows 10 license from an old laptop that was gathering dust and had the whole thing up and running within a few hours. NUC's are HEAPS easier than standard PC builds haha. Just put in the m2 drive and RAM and BOOM, done - time to install the OS.

So I had a sparky install a ceiling fan in my alfresco recently, and he did a really neat job: After he left though, the downlight in my hallway wasn't working...so he came back and turns out it'd just come unplugged. At the time I also thought my aircon wasn't working quite right and thought maybe he'd managed to stack it in the roof or botch something. Missus at the time and some other tried to say "nah it's working fine, it's just hot days"...hmm, wasn't convinced. So anyway, fast forward to yesterday and I poked my head up into the roof and see this: Yep, so that explains why I thought the aircon wasn't working too well 🤪 Roof space was nice and cool though... Step-dad and I got up there this morning and duct-taped that bad boy like a mother farker and now the aircon is working the best it's ever been! I always thought it was just really bad or had been blocked off in the master bedroom, since it was always really lame if I turned on that zone (it has a split system in there anyway)...nope, must just have been leaking for a while as I can feel cold air blowing on me from the bed in there now. Side note - crawling around inside steel frame roof's is a mug's job! -
Here's you guys with your big PC builds, meanwhile I've gone tiny with my latest PC purchase - a NUC8i5BEK: Literally smaller than my hand: Have bought some other PC related things recently though. Since I've offloaded my Plex server and other associated duties to the NUC, I've set my main PC up as a more dedicated music recording station: Have a bit of a strange issue with the NUC rnadomly freezing if I leave the HDMI cable attached to it. Since my monitors aren't super new they only have a single DVI input, so I've setup a HDMI switch so I could toggle between my PC and NUC and then ran a HDMI to DVI cable out of the switch. Works fine with PC, but NUC seems to be not happy about something (tried all the troubleshooting tips and tricks I can find for it on the net, still no luck)...but unplugging the HDMI cable from the back it has resulted in zero freezes. So there's some sort of graphics gremlin, but whetever, I can just Windows Remote Desktop into it if/when I need to do anything on it, so no big deal really. The little NUC is a bit of a beast as a Plex server though! Have a PlexPass so running hardware transcoding, but it'll happily transcode a 4K HDR movie to 1080p without breaking a sweat (I.e. <50% CPU), so I'm pretty stoked with that! Everything in my house direct plays anyway, so it's not going to be too problematic, but nice to know I have the overhead.

So it seems, which is a bit lame. My issue is that I like eating (the wrong foods) too much...😒

Pretty busy actually, Keify. Had a dinner thing at a friends of the girl I've been seeing Christmas eve, then breakfast with my folks Chrissy morning then lunch at the girl's family, then my dad's side of the family came over for lunch today. Now looking forward to having a couple of days off to myself. How was yours? Ate a decent steak by the looks?

To be fair, though, I'm not exactly looking to lift a car off a person or anything...I'd just settle for not looking horrible naked, really lolol

Merry belated Christmas all. That sucks about your little fella, Fluff. Hope he's on the mend today and you've all been able to have a bit more of achill day.

Well to be fair, I've done a few 5km runs and even a 10km run recently... but for whatever reason really struggled with that particular 5km 🤷♂️

Looking good, Fluff! -
Yeah, I've been doing a bit of running the last couple of months, so my cardio hasn't been to bad as I think general fitness has carried over from cycling. But was just something about the weather on Saturday did me in.

4 weights sessions a week for 4 weeks in a row now, starting to get easier and feeling stronger, so happy with progress so far. Went and did park run this morning though, was hot as balls and zero breeze...I nearly died 🤮

I can admire it in someone else's house...but not sure it's the colour I'd choose for my own place. Looks good though. -

Haven't really done much at my place for a while, anything I'd need/want to do now will end up being expensive projects...so they can wait haha. Haha, time for some posts in the weights thread? -
Yeah, but I do my workout at 6:30am then cycle to work after brekky...so kinda annoying to have to shower twice before starting work...plus the cycle certainly gets my heart rate up!

I'm not really doing a whole lot, Biz - just easing myself back into it. But as the others have said, doing something feels better than nothing for sure! I'm 3 weeks in now, done at least 4 sessions a week. Feeling good and already starting to feel a bit stronger. Annoyed that my ceiling fan hasn't turned up yet though...been sitting at some couriers depo in Melbourne for the last week. Had a sparky booked for Monday to come and fit it, but had to cancel that and it's looking like it'll be mid 30's temps all week this week coming...gonna be warm lifting sessions 😒
