Thanks guys. Checked timing, definately not out. No crap in the phaser oil gallerys or filters etc swapped phasers to see if it shifted the problem to inlet side.. Code came up once on the weekend when it was cold (retarded exhaust side) . Cleared it and hasnt come back up since.. Sounds like it might be worth checking the cam caps though. Anyway of telling if they're in the wrong spots? Ian

Kept doing this very bad. Checked codes and found 2. P1386 Variable Cam Timing Overadvanced (Bank #2) P1388 Variable Cam Timing Overretarded (Bank #2) Ended up unplugging the power steering switch.. Runs really nice now, but engine light has come back on after a while with the same 2 codes but still running fine. Check Cam phasors next?

Hi guys, Just got my ute back together after a engine rebuild.. Had to jump start it as it was sitting for a couple months. Started and ran really nice. Took it for a drive ran fine. Stalled at set of lights, but was fine after that and along the hiway. On the way home stalled again at lights and stalled several times in the drive-way. After it stalls, the engine light flashes 3 times ( not sure if that means anything). Any ideas? Cheers Ian

Alrighty. They found a vacuum line had come off causing it to idle rough (and probably run lean). They rectified that. Got it on the dyno. Its making 2psi extra boost. And the mixtures are safe as. So I'm happy.

Cheers Ev. Car is booked in to be run up Friday. Hoping it does have some kind of tune in it and running safe, I've only been babying it around. If not the tune etc will just need to happen alot sooner then I was planning.
-
Yeah. That's what I thought. If it hasnt had a tune for the exhaust Wouldnt it throw up an error code if it was running lean/over boosting? I was planning to get it run up on the dyno this week just to check anyway.

Cheers guys. As for getting paid alot. No I dont lol... But I picked it up for what I consider a good price. So I plan on keeping it for a few months atleast. See how im going with it all. And if its not working out well I will sell the BF for something a fair bit cheaper ( I just had to give one of these a go). But yeah quite happy with it for now. Very nice to drive, and in the mean time I can finish the VL off. If-when I do some mods to the ute I was thinking just injectors and a tune as said above, Maybe a 2nd hand cooler from a mate and keep it fairly stocko.

So after a crap load of mind changing. I decided I wasnt going to get a loan to buy a 2nd car. I waited for something cheap to come up but nothing really caught my eye. Finished my apprenticeship and got a nice payout for my holidays. The 6t was still there 2months later... Thought to myself I might aswell give it a go. So I went and saw the guy with some cash and picked it up 2 weeeks ago. Lowered and a 4 into 3.5" exhaust. 70000kms. ZF. This is the only pic I have atm. Pretty happy with it so far.

Only other cars I'm looking at are. the 2005-2008 2wd sr V6 hilux's. Things that I do like about them, 3seats, bit more ground clearence, probably abit more practicle and not really any mod bugs to bite. Prices seem to be 13-$16000. 100000+km's all the mod cons like power windows, ac etc. But obviously no where near as comfy or sporty as the xr.. The only time the 3 seats are handy is when doing downhill mtb, 2 people can ride one can drive.. Xr6t, Very comfy, Power, but also low, very easy to get more power (Not sure if that's a good thing for whats suppose to be an everyday car) + I guess I have the vl for a *fun* car :S

Lol it sure is. Keep him in the boot

Cheers for the replies guys. That is true about the credit rating also. Probably best to do this while I'm young and still just paying board at home. Will let you guys know when/if I pick it up.. Quick pic of the Vl..

Hi mate, The ford has a full 3inch exhaust on it aswell. The only things I really would like to do is the usual injectors, tune kind of thing for around the 400hp mark. But I would like to keep it standard for a while..

Hi guys first post on here just after some oppinions.. Currently own a pretty tidy modified Vlt that I have had for a while now and finally got it somewhere near where I want it (for now). I am at the point now where I am looking for a ute for a daily driver.. I am 24 and just about to finish my electrical apprenticeship. I have my eye on a 2007 BF,6t ute zf, owned by an older guy 70000kms. $17000. I like the bf because of the good gearbox, easy power potential and still retaining reliability to a point. Also the comfort.. Wanting a ute so I can throw the bike and other crap in the back and something that will be able to tow the vl to the strip every now and then.. Whatever I have no plans on selling the vlt.. I will need to finance about 12k for the BF which I plan on paying off as quick as I can (Never had a loan before so this is what worries me the most even though I can meet the repayments) Anyway just after oppinions on going the BF 6t, or going for something older-cheaper?.. Cheers Ian
