This sounds like a problem I've got. Look at threat 'Traction/abs Issue Just After Start Up' in this section. I'm going to look at my sensor this weekend and see if it fixed the problem.

Is there something I can buy to plug into the ECU and get the fault codes myself? Even if it doesn't help with this I'm sure it will come in handy in the future.

Awesome, thanks AdamIan. If I had to guess I'd say the sound is coming from the left front. Forgot to mention slotted rotors have been installed as well, perhaps that's causing more gunk to clog the ABS sensor.

Hi All - long time lurker first time poster I recently bought a xr6t bf2 and its got an issue I'm hoping someone can help me with. When I start the car and start driving (forward or backwards) the traction control light comes on and something from the front of the car goes click click click click... then everything's fine. Say I'm reversing and feathering the brake I can feel it through the brake pedal and a little bit in the steering. The light will stay on for the rest of the trip and the whole thing starts again next time. Any idea what this could be? The car has 19 inch wheels 245 wide and the steering is alot heavier than the AU xr6 I had previously - is heavier steering normal?? It also has a ZF 6 speed, no mods and full service history. And btw, if this has been asked before don't chew me out, its my first post because I'm GOOD at using the search function. Cheers!
