I have a custom tune from Power Torque and couldn't be happier. I would get a custom tune to maximise the performance potential of the edit and to be totally sure of the safety of the tune in the way of AFR's.

I have spent a fair bit of time in both an XR6T (mine) before and after edit and an RX8 (Brothers). Assuming similiar ability between the drivers the XR6T will do the RX8 in a straight line by enough stock and by a heap with an edit. Start putting some corners into the equation and the RX8 will eat the T without a problem in the world. It handles so much better than the T. As for launching a rotor, my old Series 3 with a Series 5 13BT with the usual addons launched harder than my over lardy XR6T ever will. Go to the Jamboree at Willowbank one year and have a look at how hard a well set up and driven rotor can run.

I use DBA 4000 series 6x6 slotted on the front with EBC Greens all round and a Dot5 brake fluid. I have just added stainless steel braided brake lines. Not a bad budget brake set up for a 99.99% street usage car (just under $1000 fitted in QLD). Interestingly though when the braided lines were done they said the old lines had a couple of heat bubbles in them and were able to be easily stretched when cold after only two short track days.

No it is not a 4wd dyno. I will come along for a look (probably wont bother running) if I'm not caught at work. You wont need to bring along any HSV's, last time I was there Mark had 4 with superchargers in the shop getting work done.

The car is great. It is the first time I have actually really enjoyed driving it so far. It was such a step down in performance from my RX7 to the XR6T. The car pulls nice and hard through the midrange in particular. Go and get Mark to give it a tune. If you are lucky enough to have good valve springs like mine then you will have a pretty cheap upgrade. You might want to book in soon though as I'm having trouble finding a time free to get mine back in there.

I understand your concern rednut99 but my AFR's are as good as or better than the standard tune. I was very particular in asking Mark to pull back the tune anywhere required to keep it safe. Outright horsepower is not a concern for me (whether it was 240, 245 or 250rwkw) it just had to be safe. On some of the earlier runs it had Lamda values around 0.76/0.77 I think which is why he pushed on further.

I have the CAPA 8 and 10psi maps in it as well as the custom tune. Mark hopes to pull a few more kw out of the custom tune yet and he will do a little work on the 8psi tune for me as I will probably use this a bit for around town. I haven't calculated the torque on the custom tune yet but it may be getting up towards the 650+ Nm which is why I will probably run the 8psi a bit until T56's are half the price they are now. Looking forward to a run down the strip very soon. You can book an appointment on some Saturdays with Mark just give them a call to arrange it. I know I'm more than happy with the job he has done and the car will go back there for anything else I want in the future.

I haven't paid for the custom tune yet (only the box) as he hasn't finished. I'll find out next week. The cars not black.

I thought I would post the preliminary results from an edit Mark at Power Torque did for me on Saturday. Hopefully I have figured out how to attach the dyno printout. The four graphs are stock with CAI and filter, out of the box 8psi and 10psi, and the custom 10psi map. Other than CAI/filter the car is completly stock including exhaust still with centre muffler. The plugs have been regapped. The AFR's were between .78 and .81 Lamda by memory from when I looked. There is still probably a little more left in it top end yet as he is going to put another half to 1 psi in it as it dropped from 10psi a little earlier than we wanted but I ran out of time to do any more dyno runs. The car now has some genuine mid-range push which is good. PTE were really great to deal with and even sent my SS inductions CAI away for me (it had warped with heat) for a new one. If your in Brisbane I would have to recommend Mark from PT to do an edit for you. Stock with CAI 195rwkw Custom Tune 250rwkw Dyno.pdf

I contacted them a couple of weeks ago and they thought late this year, maybe early 2006 depending on how testing went. The VCM suite is a very good product (according to the tuners) hence you would expect their version of a Ford edit to be just as good. You just have to decide if you want to wait that long when a lot of the advantages may primarily lie with the ease of tuning for the tuners. It's like waiting for the APS edit (if it is even in the country yet), you don't know if it will be worth the wait when you could have been blowing HSV's away in the mean time.

They have always required helmet, closed shoes, long sleeve shirt and pants in the past and you need to remove anything not nailed down in the car eg mats, refidex and even spare tyre if you can't convice whoever is checking the car that the strap is good enough. They will check your brake pads and if they are really crap will not let you on the track. That being said they are a good bunch of fellas who just dont want to see you or your car destroyed. They do let passengers in the car with same clothing/helmet requirements as driver.

I would really recommend a decent set of brakes for Darlington Park. Most of us that have done a sprint day there on standard brakes had to sit the odd run out to get rid of some of the shudder. Many of us have changed rotors since. If you are interested Turbo6 there is place just near you called Brake Parts Express on Rode Rd Chermside (in the Langdons Wreckers driveway) that will put some DBA 4000 series slotted rotors on the front and EBC Green Stuff pads all round and fitted for about $700 or a bit more (you will have to ring and get a quote as this may have changed a bit). that's what I put on and I had alot more fun on my next trip to DP. There is the odd solid object to hit at DP and if you have 300rwkw then brakes would be a good idea!! It's a lot more interesting track than Willowbank though. Have fun, I might come down for a peak but not running again till the edit is done.

In my previous life as an RX7 club member I came across an old Kombi that was running an injected Bridgeported 13B Turbo (only Bridgeported Turbo I have ever seen run well) that had 320HP at the treads on a Dyno day. It was a bit of beast on the road when he launched it. Go along to Rotary Dyno day and take a look at some of the cars there and their HP and their weight and then remember not to drag them unless you have a Stage 3 kit.
