Haha.. yeah injectors will definitely be the first upgrade. I'd probably do a mid-range intercooler with piping, injectors, turbo side air intake (for the sound) and valve springs to be safe.... but I'd prefer to wait a couple of years if I can I was told on the phone today that if I got 260 on CV dyno on Wednesday I could expect as low as 220 (low reading dyno).

Thanks for the replies. Ok so as an alternative, if I was to put say a 3" redback hotdog on it, would that make the situation better? Getting the tune checked out isn't the worry, but as it's been years since it was tuned, I'm still running the old CAPA flash tuner, and don't like the idea of forking out $1500 for an X3 and tune (not yet anyway, I'll do so when I change injectors, intercooler etc...) If that wouldn't make it safe, well I guess it's try find an exact muffler replacement from X-Force.

I posted this on another forum and I thought I'd post it here as well to get the best range of answers. So, my XR6 Turbo has a 3" Xforce catback along with high flow cat and dump. It's a mild steel system and has been on the car for about 6 years. The middle muffler has recently developed a few holes, you can hear it from the side of the car, and was also pointed out during its 90k service. Now, the car has had a custom tune at CV Performance in Sydney and on the 98 tune which I run 100% of the time (less aggressive boost), it is doing 11.5 PSI, which goes down to 9 PSI after a few seconds WOT. It also has the F6 secondary intake, K&N Filter, but is otherwise stock. Firstly, if I cut the exhaust out completely and replace with a 3" straight pipe, would I be likely to see over-boost, lean out, or damage the engine in any way? Secondly, does anyone would to have a guess at how loud it would be, the second muffler is pretty massive with two pipes coming out of the muffler. My other option I guess would be to replace it with another XForce muffler, or a hotdog or something. I don't want it insanely loud but wouldn't mind it a little bit louder.

I forget where I saw it, but I saw one like this with a major oil leak along the braids. For the time/effort involved in changing it over, not to mention the potential expense caused by a failure at the wrong time.... just buy the Earl's one. I bought mine from this guy: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/EARLS-FORD-BA-BF-XR6-TURBO-GENUINE-OIL-LINE-FILTER-COMPLETE-KIT-/130829265719?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e76082b37&_uhb=1#ht_2056wt_1397 But he was the cheapest at the time ($140).

That's odd, I'd do the opposite. If I ever have to replace my front bar I'd get a BF one.

Apple Ipod Thread (Merged Topic)
joshmcmillan replied to Velvet Glove's topic in Audio/Visual Workshop
I bought an adapter from the old iPhone 4 plug to the new lightening one from eBay for $12 to use in my car, and it doesn't work with audio at all (despite the eBay listings saying they do). Also tried it on iPhone docks etc... Just a heads up, pay for the genuine apple one. -
Maybe consider a G6E Turbo. Either way, go and drive one, you may be surprised.

I'd get the best you think you can afford. Sounds like you're getting manual, in which case I would rule out the 5 speed. The 6 speed manual is an awesome gearbox. As mentioned the auto's are faster if you're chasing 1/4 mile times. BF has 5kw more also 30nm of torque, duel vct and a few other minor changes. As mentioned 06/06 onwards has the GAS/FPV Rods, which are handy if you're chasing power levels over about 330-350rwkw (safely), and also definitely after then they had stronger valve springs, and maybe early (which on a BA it's a guessing game when you'll need them replaced). My opinion would be that if money is a factor and you're not chasing huge power, buy a BA MkII and with the money saved do a few modifications. However obviously, a BF with same k's and mods will be better again.

Making The Standard Bov To Atmosphere

Depends how long you plan to own it for.... I personally would prefer not to own one above sort of 180-200,000k's.... so when buying mine I mainly looked at ones under 100,000. (and it isn't that they won't last WELL past that, it's just that maintenance becomes more expensive) BF/FG have the 6 speed auto's which are a lot better than the BA 4 speeds... FG also gets better fuel economy, and they're a fair bit faster standard, but as mentioned, less power potential with the stock turbo. FPV's usually have a bit of a jump in power, some stronger components, body kit, wheels, different interior trim and some standard extra's. Whether it's worth the money would be personal preference. I'd love to own one, but don't think I could justify the bump in price for what I want (in regards to the turbo's... V8's atm are a different story obviously because FPV is the only option). Goodluck,

I think the lights look OK on an F6.... they mainly look tri-hard / nasty on lower models, but it's impossible to make an F6 look cheap lol

There is such thing as too much boost?
-
Looks great, but that colour always does (I may be bias ).

He got SERIOUSLY ripped if he spent 100k for those mods/power output. If I were you I'd be looking for a neat, near stock example, then upping the power / modifying it to your liking. Imagine how much that one would have been thrashed.
-
Yeah definitely. They're the limit atm. The dyno number was on a fairly exaggerated dyno so I don't think it's tuned too high to be a problem. Next will be injectors, intercooler, fuel pump and another tune probably in over a year though.

It's great you're enjoying yourself Like mentioned, the 271rwkw may be a bit exaggerated for stock injectors, as is my 270rwkw, seems both dyno's are known for high numbers... but the number doesn't really mean anything if you're happy
-
Mine is running 270rwkw (on a somewhat exaggerative dyno I think) ... with exactly the same mods, minus intercooler... And yeah, injectors/valve springs are the limiter there. So I'd say you'll be right for 250rwkw so long as the tuner is decent. Your power will be more consistent than mine because of the intercooler too. Also... What they all said^^^^^^ The T56 is an awesome gearbox though, so get keen
