Hi rbjet, My tuner was even surprised with that power gain with the standard exhaust (the kitty cat's been dropped off the bridge if you know what I mean, but still standard exhaust with centre muffler removed)...haven't run this car down the quarter yet but hoping to get it there in the next fortnight, need to get some new rear tyres first...hoping for 11s because I've seen cars with similar power figures to mine running high 11s. And yeah I know the boost setting is very low on my car, I was very impressed with the power it made on such low boost.

Hi, Name: theone Car: BA 2003 XR6 Turbo Trans: 4 speed auto with trans cooler Power: 308.1rwkw Boost: 10psi Induction: K&N Filter, Hybrid 600x300 intercooler, Process West crossover Turbo: Stock Valve Springs: Performance springs Exhaust: Standard, centre muffler removed Fuel system: Fake 968 injectors (replacing with ID 1000s soon due to slightly rough idle), Aeromotive fuel pump Power adder: XCal 3, custom tune Comment: Very happy with the car as it is right now, very hard to hold it on the road straight, it had a lot more left in it but for the safety of the gearbox kept the boost at 10psi. I'm very happy with this power at 10psi. Only thing left to do is replace the injectors and if need be in the future put a built BTR gearbox in. Obviously going to have to replace the rear tyres fairly regularly lol...taking it to Eastern Creek when I get some time, hoping for a high 11. Cheers

Walbro Css340 Or Cobra Tech 300Lph?

Thanks for that Benny, I appreciate your advice! -
Hi, Who has used these fuel pumps and which one do you recommend? Are they both capable of running E85 without any dramas? Cheers

Hi guys, I'm thinking of dropping the oil filter and replacing it with a braided line hose (minus filter), just looking for some input on what people think of this and want to get some feedback from anyone else who has done this. I ran my VL turbos and Skyline without this requirement for many years, never had a drama, I think the filter is an unnecessary thing to have but wanting feedback from others - positive or negative - about doing this to my XR6 turbo (already have an Earl's line in place). Cheers

Haha, for this reason (and based on the advice here) I have decided to just go ahead and do the custom tune. Thanks all for your input, it's very much appreciated.

It was only intended as a short-term thing while I was installing the parts, the purpose of the thread was to find out if it was a viable option or not. The plan isn't for things to go wrong (!!), but from what I've read so far it's looking like that can't be predicted. Probably looking like a custom tune is the only way to go! Thanks for all the advice, it's much appreciated.

Where did I say I'd chosen his recommendation? I was thanking him for it. Most of the information here is useful to me, whether it's what I'd like to hear or not - that's why I started the thread.

Thanks for the info & recommendation Impellor, I appreciate it.

Thanks for all your info ratter, it's much appreciated. Just wondering if you have seen any cases where a generic tune hasn't caused any problems or has proven to be a safe short-term option? Cheers
-
Apologies ratter, no your facts are not rubbish. Thanks for your reply.

I'm having a chat with Spiro on Monday in regards to this. I think a lot of people don't get that I'm doing the modifications to the car myself and I want to be able to run the vehicle so that in a couple of months I can go and get the custom tune and not have to fork out money to a tuner to do things like installation that I've already done, and save myself some cash. I think it's ridiculous some of the prices that these tuners ask for, I've been quoted $600-$900 for just the labour to do my valve springs, whereas in my area I can use quite a few very reputable mechanics who will only charge $400 for the same job. My intentions aren't to drive the car hard, I just want to drive the car. If people would read my question properly they would see that I don't want the generic tune so I can thrash my car. Also, I've heard from quite a few people who have had generic tunes on their cars for years not say one bad word about it and have had no problems with their vehicle other than general maintenace, which you're going to get either way. The purpose of the question is to get some feedback from others with experience with generic tunes. But thanks Benny for being the only person to give a response that is in any way useful rather than just making some rubbish comment that is completely irrelevant to the questions I've asked. Cheers

Hi all, I have a BA XR6 Turbo 4-speed, I want to find out who supplies the best generic tune. Current modifications (but no tune done as yet - haven't driven it yet since upgrading): - GT2 Hybrid Intercooler - Walbro Fuel Pump - Bosch 968 Injectors - Upgraded Valve Springs - XCAL 3 Unit I am aware that a custom tune is better, I'm just after info on the generic tune for now so I can still use my car until I can get the custom tune done. Who supplies the best generic tunes for this purpose? Also, if I change my fuel pump and not my injectors yet, will the car need to be tuned for the fuel pump, or will it be fine? Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers

Thanks for your replies guys, tried putting in new spark plugs today but its still doing the same thing so definitely sure it's my valve springs. I might just go the Atomic route, I'd love to put the FG motor into my BA but I've heard that they don't just bolt in and they're a bit of a headache, that's why I was thinking about putting on the FG head and strengthening the bottom end in time, if it even got that far in the power that I want. Just pissed about these valve springs but I'll probably just go the cheap route and replace them. If anyone knows anything about putting an FG motor into a BA please let me know or point me in the right direction! I'll let you know if the valve springs fix the issue. Cheers guys
