I'm taking it down now to be looked at tomorrow. Does it look like enough to have stuffed the gearbox already? If it was milkshaked again would it be all milky not just top?
Guys, Gearbox and heat exchanger etc were replaced, car is running fine but looked at coolant after driving today and it looks like this (hot): Is this bad? I'm gonna be so pissed if it is my holiday was booked in again for thursday!
Sounds like the 2-1 gearchange known as the zf lurch. Completely normal. As far as I know the only way to fix is to get a zf tune? Although I have heard of people claiming their zf learns to start in 2nd from stops based on their driving patterns. Not 100% sure though.
Saturday 14th sounds good! Common ford service get my new gearbox in! I'll be heading from blue mountains west Sydney if anyone is out this way to meet up.
+2 I always wondered who owned that blue FG in the pictures on the website I also just got my FG done with SSL/SSSL, great service! Unfortunately that was the day I found my ZF had milkshaked so I haven't even got to drive it around yet :(
Kudos for going ahead with what could be a much more expensive and time consuming procedure than selling and buying another. Very interested to see how it goes. Out of interest, what did the written off xr set you back?
Ah man! Have signed up for every nsw cruise but all have been rained out! Now when the good weather comes my zf milkshake brings all the ford service boys to the yard..... to replace my gearbox. Sigh :(
Half the point of the trip was driving the new car :/ As to what it feels like, at first the gearbox just feels a bit rough, clanking into gears and what not. Then sh*t hits the fan, can't hold car at any speed without the rpm jumping everywhere , weird noises and just feels terrible. You will definitely notice if it happens , unmistakable.
The chick on the phone said maybe 1 or 2 days for the gearbox to come in, but didn't sound like the was very confident. Nah trip was cancelled :( spewing because me and the missus already took leave off work and all. I was looking forward to the putty road... Haha Ah well, good news in the end hey!
Good news all! They have decided to replace it all with new under warranty, no questions asked Obviously it isn't that rare , they have probably had the modification argument before. The car only has 9000kms so I would have been pretty upset if they hadn't, modified or not.
