Yeah it was okay. The F1 car was cool to watch.Crowd numbers probably suffered becuase of the cost. Heres a pic of some dolly birds on my bike.

No worries. Hope to see you there.

Yeah. They dry hired the track so its the promoters doing the raping this time. I believe Ricciardo is costing 500k incl car, crew and all the jizz that comes with it. I think half the problem is the promoters are trying to make their money back in one day and not over two. One thing is for sure, the schedule is jam packed. Hopefully its not a complete schmozzle like the Weber debacle. But that was partly caused by crap access to barbs for big numbers.

Is anyone taking out a bank loan and going to the Speedfest at the motorplex on the weekend? My dragbike will be on display at the Perth Quad Bikes tent if you're down there. I'll be floating around there somewhere as well, depending on what is going on.

Motor back in and the reassembly of all the rest is progressing at my usual snail's pace. But it'll fire up today. The new flat bottomed billet oil pan made it super easy to jack the motor back into place, which is lucky as I had to jack it in and out a couple of times. Im redoing the turbo oil line return into the oil pan and I'm slightly worried that the return may not flow enough back from the turbo. But I wont really know till it's at full noise and smokes out of the turbo, or not. Race meeting this Friday.

How's this for fast. Ordered a new billet oil pan and swinging pick up from Schnitz Racing last week. They shipped it last Thursday night (our time) from Decatur, Indiana, and it was on my desk by 9.30am this morning (Monday) ! UPS must use a fkn Tardis for shipping ! I highly recommend Schnitz Racing for proper go fast parts. Mmmmm billet....

I use it in the drag bike. Makes a butt load of water so the oil and filter gets changed every meeting. It also eats everything that is not anodised. You need special fuel lines as well and it leaves a gritty deposit. Which is why I have to flush the whole fuel system with petrol after every meeting. Also, you use roughly twice as much fuel per hp. Which is why my little 1000cc motorbike uses ID2000's and a massive fuel pump. Its burns your eyes and throat too. Wayyyy to much hassle. So it's a no from me.

And just a little bit less than he used last time.

Yeah its only on the launch where oil runs to the back of the sump. Which obviously wouldn't show up on the dyno. Only way to test it is on the track. I fitted a baffle to stop the oil surge but it didnt work. Dry sump is a definate fix but just the dry sump system and pump set up alone is $2k. Then there's getting a tank made and finding somewhere to put it as well as hosing etc. My budget isnt ready for that. So its a billet sump and swinging pick up with the baffle for me. Ryan schnitz in the US uses this setup and runs into the sixes at 200mph plus with a 1.10 sixty. So it should do me fine....I hope.

So I had a good and bad weekend with the race bike's first meeting of the season. The good bit was with all the boost turned down, I still PB'd my 60' at 1.41 and ran 8.6 and 8.7's Also, I'd fitted a new chain and moved the rear axle forward about 1.5" from where it was. So the bike is about 7.5" over length now. What I wasnt prepared for was that this change meant the thing rode the wheelie bar for a very large portion of the track. It caught me by surprise on the first run I can tell you! But now I know what to expect, its changed the riding experience from being on a very very fast bike to being on a complete animal that has to be pointed the right way before you let it go. The bad bit is my data logging shows my oil surge problem isnt solved. You can see the red oil pressure trace drop down as the yellow RPM trace rises to 8000rpm while the clutch is sliding and then dip more as it locks up and really gets going. 18psi oil pressure while making 300hp is not healthy ! So I stopped racing and drained and filtered the oil as well as cut open the oil filter. There was some concerning bits in there that could have been bearing material but not much. Seeing there is a brand new crank and rods in this motor, we decided to pull the engine and check it out rather than hope for the best and possibly drive over a new crank. Luckily, no damage except one suspect big end bearing and one conrod has touched the crank. So now its a matter of pulling the head off and removing yhat one rod and piston, cleaning that up, then replacing te one big end bearing, cleaning all the gasket gunk off the cases and pitting it vack together so we can go racing in less than three weeks. Ive ordered a billet lowered sump with a swinging oil pickup that should stop the surging. Massive thanks to Brett from Pace Motorsport for pulling this down and inspecting the engine with me last night till 10pm.

My seat squeeks when its lowered right down. If yours is sitting in its fully lowered position, try lifting it up a little.

Yeah Wilko. Special clutches. We both run Hays Convertible clutches. Brett uses his in lockup mode so it works like a normal clutch but uses weights and springs to handle the locking up of the clutch. I use mine in slider mode which means it operates purely on engine rpms and I dont run a clutch lever. I use a two step limiter to set launch rpms which is operated by the headlight flasher button and when I release the button, the engine spins up into the clutch and off I go. Still operated by weights and springs, just in a different way.

Yes and no. The dyno holds a set rpm and then lets the bike rev into the run. But its a big turbo for the size motor, so yeah it takes some time to build boost on the dyno compared to the smaller snail on my 1000cc engine. But he has a boost building function set up like on my bike in the second video above (but better) and he is building up to around 12psi on the start line before he throws the clutch. So lag isnt an issue unless he has to chop the throttle and get back on it. I'll be racing against him next weekend so my hopes are pinned on him not being able to put all that juice through the tyre or him busting a wheelie or something. Once he has the shut the throttle for any reason, I'll be gone.

Hows this? This is my engine builder and tuner, Brett Ghedina from Pace Motorsports with his own race bike on the Tokyo Motorsport dyno today. This bike is a Honda CBR929 running full alcohol, a GT28 and as youd expect, a fully built motor. This run was 380hp at around 18 psi boost. The alcohol fumes in the dyno room were so toxic that I bailed out after this run. I prefer to go blind by conventional methods. He eventually got this to 25psi and 470hp, but he couldnt get the additional methanol cooling injector to spray so he could squeeze even more boost into it. He is expecting to reach 28psi and over 500hp! From a CBR929 FFS !!!! This bike has already run mid 7's. His personal goal is to run a 6 on an aussie designed and built, no bar bike.

There's a gopro vid a few pages back. The sound on my phone doesn't do those dyno videos justice. Especially when it really ramps up the boost and shoves the front wheel into the dyno.

We just spent the day on the dyno and the drag bike is all done. Low boost is 11psi and 300hp/155ft/lb. We found the limit of the stock coils at 17 psi with 360hp and a killer 190ft/lb ! I was hoping for 380 or more but always knew the ignition would limit us at some point. Then it was time to set up the antilag boost building function. We managed to get 6.5psi at 6000rpm. I can tell you that sitting at the startline on this thing when its popping and cracking like a demon is something else ! Im super stoked and cant wait to ride it in two weeks !

Cool stuff going on with the race bike. We're on the home stretch, which is lucky because its now leas than three weeks before the first Comp Bike meeting. Brett from Pace Motorsport cut the base of the fuel tank out and is fitting some quick release fasteners so its now just a quick release engine cover. Then he fabbed up this 5L fuel cell with the fuel pump mounted right behind it. This mod means I wont have to run 10kgs of extra fuel to make sure the fuel pick on the bottom of the tank doesnt suck air at the hit. This is the return line. Theres a pipe on the inside running to the bottom of the tank to stop fuel being aerated on return.

Almost there. Fuel pump still to be relocated. Complete installation of the data logger. Install a 10psi waste gate spring as that is now my low boost setting. Fire it up. Do a couple of heat cycles to make sure all is healthy. Change oil and filter. Strap it onto the dyno!!!

Make sure your helmet is AS/NZS 1698 standard or you will be sent home. Other than that. Long sleeves. Pants and closed shoes.
