  1. Okay, latest news on my engine, and it’s not so good. Mains are all spot on, which is good news for the block. Number 1 big end bearing is undamaged but the rest have been eaten and spun. As you can see in the pics below, the crank journals are damaged, so that’s now a throw away job (might hang that in the shed). Three conrods are damaged from the spun bearings so they’re all headed for the bin too. I’ve contacted my mates at Motorcycle Masters in Kewdale and they’re looking for a mint 01-04 crank for me. My tuner, Brett Ghedina from Pace Motorsport here in Perth, is going to order me in a set of Falicon rods and some bigger valve springs. So far, the stock conrods have limited the amount of power we can pull out of the engine so we didn’t push it past 325hp. But with proper rods in it, we can max out the turbo and see what it’ll make, so I will need valve springs when the boost starts to get up there. (Lucky I got the big fuel system hey ?) We’ll stick high volume oil pump gears in it to go along with the 60psi high pressure relief valve already in there. I’m undecided on pistons. Common sense tells me to go forged, but we think the stock pistons that are in it which have been ceramic coated on the crowns and moly coated skirts, combined with alcohol fuel are likely up to the job, we're seeking advice on that. But the smart money would just buy forgies and be done with it. But hey, I never said I was smart. Watch this space.
  2. So I finally got around to dropping the oil today from the race bike. It didn't look good. But I was expecting that anyway so I got cracking on removing the motor. I thought id show you guys the fuel system, which is capable of supporting over 500hp. A weldon fuel pump rated to 700hp methanol and 1400hp petrol. Aeroflow -12 feed and -8 return lines, custom billet fuel rail all anodized to deal with methanol, boost sending fuel press reg and ID2000 injectors. The system was designed with plenty of head room for further upgrades later on. Here's the magic. TD04 with a Tial external waste gate. Its relatively small so gets up on boost quick. I believe I can go to TD05 internals when it comes time to upgrade. But itll get rods and pistons first. Out and into the ute. Ready to drop off to my tuner tonight. He'll flip it upside down and open the bottom end up tomorrow and have a look.
  3. Pulled motor out of the drag bike today. Bearing material in the oil. Very keen to find out the extent of the damage.
  4. You can definatley take on barbie duties Luke !
  5. Just FYI Mirkz, a genuine, no sports bar tonneau cover cost me about $400 when I bought my ute. Came with the two steel cross bars and the plastic bizzos they slide into. I got some discount becuase I was buying a new ute, but gives you an idea what a new one costs.
  6. Kyle arent you meant to run 40psi normally? Meaning 45psi on the track day? I run 42 every day in my 20's. Yeah I'm not able to take Paddy's place. Hope you can make it mate. I might sneak up there later in the day to check out the damage.
  7. I've been thinking of another maintenance day if you're not in a big rush to do it. It shouldn't be too hard to find a weekend when Kyle isn't in town ? Maybe in a month so guys get time to get their bits together.
  8. Ive wondered if, before it failed, you were to replace the bolts with arp bolts and loctited them, or even the oem bolts, if that would prevent it from happening. If you could do that without dropping the trans, it would be worth it. If you have to pull the box, then you may as well add $250 for a nizzy one. I dont even know if theres an inspection cover. Never bothered to look.
  9. Cost me $800 at XFT supply and fit nizpro jobbie. I parked mine up very quickly after it rattled and it still egged the flex plate bolt holes.
  10. Hes not a member, I used to work with him. Car is bone stock but looked after.
  11. Hey Steve, send me a text when you're on your way back. Probably still up as long as it's not too late. But no rush to get back.
  12. Guessing that was a wise investment then Kyle! Hooe you didnt hurt the other guy's tyre with your face !
  13. Kyle, you should also look at LAMS 650's. My young bloke has Vickis ninja 650L now and its a great bike. Good size and torquey. You can sneakily derestrict them when you want more but the 300 will only ever go like a 300. IMO 600 4cyl sports in bikes are gutless unless you rev the nuts off them and you probably already know theyre not LAMS legal.
  14. Up for debate, but as far as mass produced, bog standard bikes go, suzuki Hayabusa is about the quickest. ZX14 has tried to knock it off and if you look for it, youll find press that supports that. Then theres the new supercharged Kawasaki H3 and BMW S1000R. But from a standing start, the wheelbase is against them. Theres some fkn quick K1200 BMW's around too. When it comes to go fast stuff, the hayabusa is the chevy small block of the bike world. Theres a million things out there for them. Theyre all speed limited to 186mph so bog stock top speed is irrellevant.
  15. Nah not me. I won't bother taking the ute until I get something else done for more powahs. Spend enough time down there already ! Was thinking I might enter the road bike in the Fast series on Anzac weekend for a laugh since I broke the drag bike :(
  16. Steve how did you go, top speed wise? It was 222kph last time right?
  17. Rattled the motor on the GSXR yesterday. Still ran an 8.86 but had to pull out of the meet once I heard the engine noise. Hoping it's just big ends. Possibly brought on by oil starvation at the hit since I fitted the wheelie bar. Gave my tuner a chance to say " I told you so" in regards to my data logger that's sitting in his workshop that I decided I wouldn't bother fitting till the off season.... Doh !! Here's the run, forward to 1.30 to avoid the boring crap. I must have pushed the camera down leaning forward at the end. And I still can't make my brain stop my right wrist backing off as it lifts in first, despite the wheelie bar.
  18. Nah I wouldn't bother with pics of colours or colour chips guys. When I get around to getting it done, I'll suss out colours then. I hurt the motor today so need to drop that out and assess the damage.
  19. Candy Orange, If I can find a powder coat somewhere close to that, it'll be awesome. If not, I'll just go black or something, I'm not too fussed.
  20. I'll be getting my wheelie bar done in the offseason so might check these guys out. I know there's an impressive range of colours and finishes in power coating, so I'm hoping to find something close to the colour of the bike.
