Standard Fg Xr6T Sucking Noise At Half Throttle!,?
broke replied to Dubboxr6's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
yeah mate as far as I know it's stock as a rock. I checked all the connections and doesnt appear to be any leaks that I can tell. I think the video exaggerated the induction noise a little more. it's not as loud in the cabin as it sounds in the video. the BOV noise is really only audible when all the windows are up and the music is off. with windows down I dont hear it unless I give it boot fulls. the car doesnt behave abnormally at all it's been rock solid in my time with it (touch wood.) only mod I know of is K&N. and to be honest I only assume this as it has a K&N sticker near the air box, ive actually never opened it to see for myself. also snorkel I believe is just the stock one. sorry I should have specified ive vented the stock BOV -
quite interested in doing something like this also, more than likely going to grab a pipe kit in the near future might do this mod while all the piping is out

My Fg Premium Audio Upgrade - Alpine & Jbl
broke replied to Jake F6's topic in Audio/Visual Workshop
yeah that's what im not fussed on. I think bang for buck changing out the speakers for those Alpines seems to be the way to go. the guy at JB instantly pointed to them as he said they are fine with the limited power the stock unit feeds them. glad to hear you like them, I too am not a big "doof doof" fan lol. -
Hey mate, I'll save you the hassle for Aitkenvale Auto. rang them twice and they basically palmed me off to Town Auto. Town Auto will seemingly ONLY use Lifeguard and want $50 a litre for it. I got a quote of $400 for a full flush and service (filter, gasket) with Transmax Z from Whitehouse Street Auto & Dyno. My T already has the steel pan so im guessing around $700ish if yours doesnt have the steel pan. Havent tried Action Automatics actually. The guys at Whitehouse Street seem to know what they're doing but are a little blasé. For example I got my 55k logbook service and the receipt said "55,000 Service" lol that's all, nothing stating what exactly it was they did.

My Fg Premium Audio Upgrade - Alpine & Jbl
broke replied to Jake F6's topic in Audio/Visual Workshop
im really glad you posted this Jake, I actually went to JB just the other day to get install prices on some Alpine Type S gear into the doors. not sure yet about changing out the stock sub for an aftermarket one. im keen to keep it stock as possible. perhaps in the future maybe add an amp for a bigger sub in the boot. but for now I get more enjoyment listening to my turbo spool than music lol. music is always on quite low -
yeah that's exactly my thinking, I think these guys arent fully tooled up on modding our T6's yet. I'll donate as soon as the industrial action that's happening with my job is through with. due an ok little back pay which ive basically decided is going under the bonnet of my car :D

just spoke to the mechanic/tuning mob over the road from my work and discussed briefly about tunes. he said he has a custom tune from his G6E that he could load and modify. he did talk about seeing how far he could get a tune with stock injectors but form reading here im under the impression its not much. he also said that if I wanted they will gut the cat if I wanted to save cash. he was concerned about the fuel system (pump) when approaching 300kw that I "may" need a new pump. but I told him im really only chasing 270-290 type numbers for now. he's ordering me a flash tuner though which is good to know. im not wholely convinced at present though as what he says doesnt instill a heap of confidence given what im reading on here, I almost tend to trust you guys on here a little more at the moment haha. EDIT: oh and he gets his tunes from a guy named Dave from Mackay who is an "XR6T tuning god" he says

only time I get any form of rev hunt is first up in the morn when I start it up and leave it for 30sec it'll rev maybe 200-300 rpm higher than usual and back down to regular idle, once in gear it doesnt do it at all that ive noticed. but the weather is alot cooler up here so ive put it down to cold oil. if I pot around in D then it's sweet but lurches slightly more and more the warmer the oil gets. if I put it in perf D and spray it a few times it'll lurch almost instantly after a spray. only from 2nd to 1st obviously. hoping the Transmax can lower the severity of the lurch when up to temp. thinking about getting external cooler installed at same time I get the oil dumped as well. but it's likely to double the cost of the service. but good to know that people arent having serious issues with Transmax, I live in a generally pretty warm climate so in times of the year like now where its cooler in the morn I'll leave the car warm up 30sec longer or something. good stuff

sorry to hijack your thread to Dave and cheers Bomber, I might have to pass on the dump then. I just read up what boost creep is and not sure if im fussed lol
-
I have a chance to get a 4" dump 2nd hand for $300.. worth it for modest power? or is the stock dump restrictive as well as the cat?

Standard Fg Xr6T Sucking Noise At Half Throttle!,?
broke replied to Dubboxr6's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
sorry to res old thread but im curious about the sound of boost leaks myself. with windows down the only time you hear the spool is really if you start pushing past half throttle.. this is a video I took the other day with all windows up and no music video this was just in D and not a whole lot of throttle. there's a heap more induction noise than I was expecting -
how's everyone been going with the non genuine oil in their ZF? pretty sure im going to be putting Transmax in mine soon.
-
ive got a set of Achilles ATR Sports on my car now, so far so good. road noise is comparable to the stock wheels. for their price I cant complain.
-
cheers, rbjet. basically the only mods ive got planned was the exhaust and injectors. tune as well of course. perhaps a batt relocation and turbo side intake for some more spool noises. I'll have a good search though. thanks again :D
-
is there such a thing as a dump back system? like changing out the cats for high flows and then new stuff from then on? just about everyone ive been talking to about modding has told me I should go exhaust even though im not chasing big power. but some extra noise would be sweet.

lol mate you've come to the XR6T forum asking whether a turbo is a better choice than an NA 6. as for whether it's been flogged or not, if youre going to buy 2nd hand you really just have to accept the fact that some one at some point has had some fun in the car. being a turbo or NA isn't really going to make much of a difference to that in my opinion, people will give anything a flogging. if you've come here it means you want a turbo so go and get yourself one mate, you'll never regret it. As for the BA/BF differences there's countless threads all over about which is better. in a nutshell though BF MK2. if budget allows of course.

thanks! im really stoked hey. looks just how I imagined it would

FINALLY managed to source some wheel nuts! here they are.. I love them and it looks just as good as I hoped! :D I may consider dropping it a touch in the future but for now its great. rides exactly the same as the 18's did. which I'll sell pretty soon
-
exactly my reaction. These do the trick?
-
they prob did, I had to put a whole story on just to get them to do it. in Townsville I rang every tyre place and found one that would do it or do it for a reasonable price. I got quotes ranging from $80 per wheel to $160 per wheel to fit and balance. even had a few places tell me they're not interested.
-
I got the tyres fitted and balanced today but was told by the guy at the shop that I need 19mm wheel nuts? could anyone possibly point me to a place where I can get these to fit my aftermarket wheels? cheers
-
I just got word that they are 38? im struggling to get my head around the whole offsets and tyre numbers. the tyres ive been looking at are 245-35-19 there's also 275-30-19 available. not sure which ones to grab

mechanic/tuner who's started looking at my car isnt a fan of Syntrans. when I commented about a flush using it he just shook his head quickly and recommended me Transmax. so ill get the flush done in a month or so and see how it goes.
