  1. why would it ping that badly on PULP?
  2. norrs if you're in can you post the details of your car and what mods you have (or will have by the time it is tuned). might want to wait until we can get a separate thread created though
  3. I don't have enough confidence in any of the tuners here to let them do my car at this stage. It's just a function of the small demand. The tuners I have spoken to are headsex and Simon from XFT ...
  4. We need to get a tuner up here to tune our cars. I have spoken to a couple of forum tuners already and before we can really get anywhere we need to get some numbers together, list of cars and what mods they have and what dyno we can hire for a few days. Realistically it is going to cost substantially more than it would be to have it done elsewhere, to cover the flights and accommodation of the tuner. I'm happy to pay the premium to have a well known tuner with lots of experience do the job on my car. Can we start a thread in the NT forum here so we can get some interest together and take the numbers to a tuner? I have a couple of tuners in mind and they have responded positively but we really can't go further without numbers that add up.
  5. There is a possibility we could get someone up here. I'll start a thread in the NT section so we can get some numbers together and then approach a tuner and get some dates/pricing together.

No doubt HV Ford want 60K+ for it ...

Yep that happens a lot up here. Most get recovered, and the remainder are found torched. No professional thieves up here ...

Wouldn't recommend getting the tune done up here. I have been talking to a few of the tuners on this forum though, and if we can get enough interest together we might be able to have a proven, reliable tuner up here for a few days tuning our cars. devo, I also have a BF MKII. The C&V boxes with generic tunes are great value at $495 and everything looked good on the dyno. I am having trouble with pinging at the moment, but it is happening even on the stock tune so my problem may lie elsewhere.
  9. If you are going to have negative equity from the changeover, alarm bells should be ringing in your head that it's a bad idea. A lot of people have walked that path, but it never leads anywhere good. As much as I understand how much it would suck to be in that position, I'd just knuckle down and pay off the existing car first. As someone else suggested, use the idea of getting a new XR6T as motivation.. and then buy it later as a reward for paying your existing car off, getting a new job, earning more etc.
  10. I understand that, and as I have said it also happens on the stock tune. The car is not modified apart from having been flashed and then returned to the stock tune. They have already run computer diagnostics on it (which is about all they did to try and diagnose this). There were no error codes and they did stuff all else to diagnose it, it was me who had to go changing the plugs, filter, checking fuel pressure etc. Either way, if disconnecting the battery fixes the problem again for a period, then the ECU is learning while I'm driving it and adjusting something incorrectly. 11. so it has started pinging again, which is very disappointing. it just started today, so it lasted 11 days. this makes me suspect I was wrong about it being 1) the boost solenoid. I'm going to disconnect the battery again and see if it corrects itself. if it does, at least I have something I can talk to ford about.. although I'm not sure what they can do about it.. replace ECU?
  12. seventytwo: Car pulls harder than ever.. I can't wait for the dry season Darwin definitely limits how much experience Dave can have at tuning XR6T's.. I'm not willing to take the risk even though he's been to the CAPA courses etc. I'm still hoping to find a tuner who is willing to come up to tune half a dozen cars even if it costs $1500/car its cheaper than taking my car down to C&V. TOM1111: I'm pretty sure it was overboosting on the stock tune as well. seventytwo was there .. there was an unusual spike on all tunes including the standard one, in the middle of the rev range. I might put it on the dyno again.. I expect the boost curves will be flatter
  13. Problem is solved - please see post above.
  14. What's a battery strap? P.S. Pinging problem is SOLVED!! It was either one of two things that resolved it. 1) The boost solenoid maintenance shown here - http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...1329&st=162 . I am leaning towards this because when the car was on the dyno I did notice that, for example, the 10psi tune spiked to about 12-13psi before holding 10psi. I put it down to the crappy wastegates on these cars, but I wonder if it was overboosting and pinging as a result because the boost solenoid was sticking open. 2) Disconnecting the battery for an hour. Thanks everyone for your tips. Car goes hard now and boost appears to be much more linear - it just feels like massive torque all the way to the redline. Another reason I think it was the boost control solenoid ...
  15. p.s. have now done boost solenoid maintenance I was going to take out the battery, but does anyone know what is up with that casing around the battery? what's it for and how do you get the battery out of it?!
  16. These are the AFRs. Unfortunately I wasn't given a graph with boost as well.
  17. Plugs done, fuel filter done, tune is standard, running PULP and also BP ultimate. Still pinging, and quite badly, at high revs under full load :( I dont know where to go at this stage. Fuel pressure to be tested next weekend, maybe ask them to check the cat. I'll also try the boost solenoid maintenance.
  18. Note despite the thread title, this car has nothing to do with Brabus.
  19. So I took the car in today and got it back with the following comments "The calibration was wrong. It was calibrated for unleaded and now we've calibrated it for PULP". It sounds vague, and probably meaningless. It sounds like they did nothing? Anyone able to comment?
  20. Thanks.. if that's the case I will have to hunt harder for this mechanical problem. Since it could be fuel pump related (although unlikely) I might have to push Ford to replace the pump with a new one (apparently BF2's came with a potentially faulty model?)
  21. OK I must be having a bad day.. I'm not referring to the logs. To pose it in a simpler way: Let's say I have the ECU flashed with an 8psi tune. I flash it back to factory tune. Is it possible that there are still some remnants of the 8psi tune in the ECU - I.e. something to do with boost, fuel, timing that is not reverted fully back to its factory maps. There are only two possibilities a) I have a mechanical problem - I.e. fuel pump, filter, plugs, coil packs that is causing the pinging- nothing to do with the tune. This makes sense because it happens on the factory tune. b) I don't have a mechanical problem, but when I flash back from 8psi to factory, the factory settings are not completely being overwritten, it might still be running too much timing from the 8psi tune that was not reverted to factory completely. This would explain pinging even on the stock tune. I find this highly unlikely, but am just trying to gauge if it is at all a possibility - but obviously explaining myself poorly.
  22. I know what the F slot holds.. it holds the factory tune, downloaded the first time you reflash the car using one of the tunes on the box. What I'm saying is, the data that is held in the F slot.. is it complete? I.e. When you reflash the car with say, an 8psi tune, and then revert back to the factory tune (by reflashing the car from the F slot), does it completely overwrite everything in the ECU that the 8psi tune changed?
  23. I think any reputable tuner would be able to see that data, and since it is alterable (I.e. it is logging what has changed), the tuner would also be able to alter it to remove that. Would be interesting to know for sure - its the sort of thing lots of myths are likely to come out of. Either way it pings on the factory tune with no mods - I don't think it is unreasonable that they try and diagnose it.
