  1. Gotta love the guy with the ocky strap holding his rear passenger door closed
  2. From Berwick to Clayton that's Dandenong Rd for ya. Either N/A Xr6s or VY/VZs with interceptors rebadged with the Chev logos.
  3. Don't the BAs and BFs use different exhaust set ups? I know someone that bought a BA cat converter (re: genuine not after market one) for a BF and it wouldn't bolt up.
  4. RACV check is a good idea when you're buying from a private seller but like Dillz said earlier they can miss a wholerange of things. When buying second hand there's never any guarantees the car won't be a lemon, even if you do buy one from a dealership with a warranty. I bought my 6 speed manual BA mkII from a dealership a year ago and after persisting with some initial problems with the turbo actuator (which they did their best to deny existed but eventually replaced) I haven't had a problem. Car has 170xxx on the clock now and 20,000kms since purchase doesn't miss a beat. I'd like to sell it and buy a BF Mk2.5 with the ZF but I can't bring myself to sell this car. +1 for the MP3 aux loom from ebay. Best thing I have ever bought for this car!
  5. If you want to minimise the drone of a bashed out cat get someone to weld a pipe through it before you reinstall it to your car.
  6. I had one of these go on my car under warranty and Ford told me they had to order one in from MTQ (Turbo Specialists). Not sure if they sell direct to the public but might be worth a shot. They have quite a few locations in QLD. link to MTQES
  7. I mamaged to get a mechanic at Ford to hop in the car with me so I could demonstrate what was wrong. Initially he said it seemed the car was running lean under load but after more than a week at Ford they have diagnosed the problem as a failing boost solenoid due to overboost from the car. Their Service Rep said to me over the phone that they think the overboost is being caused by the F6 Intercooler and CAI installed on the car. After reading the forum thread on overboost I am thinking that the cat must be different (or gutted). If replacing the boost solenoid doesnt fix the problem their next plan of attack will be replacing the F6 components with stock XR6T parts. To me it sounds like something a proper tune will fix but I doubt the dealership will pay out of their own pocket to send the car off to one of the site's advertisers. I might have to cut my loses and pay for it myself. Is there anything else that the overboost could have damaged after the solenoid went cactus?
  8. Yeah still not sure what it is. It went away after my initial post so I put it down to carbon build up. Was driving it the other day and as the revs hit about 4k the car surged then backfired and the same white dust popped out of the exhaust. I thought a baffle in a muffler or the cat had dislodged and blocked the exhaust since the car was shaking on idle and wouldn't make any reasonable amount of power without labouring. Went back to the dealership and left it there for a couple of days and they said for a car with hotdogs fitted to the exhaust (was like that when I bought it from Ford) it drives like normal (it's under warranty so maybe they are dodging me to avoid some serious repairs). They checked the ignition, plugs and coils for misfire but found nothing and no error codes. I'm not sure if it's heat related and that is why it didn't repeat itself at Ford but I'm kind of disappointed with their response. I said I would be happy to take one of their mechanics for a drive and show them exactly what is wrong but they weren't interested. Picking it up tomorrow and will be seeking a second opinion elsewhere.
  9. Lucky your in NSW and not Victoria. Down here +35km/h is 6 months and the Magistrate won't give you a work licence period. As hard as it is I would advise most people with a heavy left foot to take the extra 3 months instead of going 12 months on 1 demerit point.
  10. lol. Yeah I believe it hasn't had a good drive in a while as the dealership due to some problems with previous buyers has had the car for over 3 months. A friend of mine that has a Jetta has been told something similar where if he doesnt give his car a good drive every now and then the manifold can clag up. I'll keep you guys posted
  11. Coolant/Oil levels haven't changed since I have owned the car. It doesn't have the look of condensation or anything like that but I did notice the smallest amount of what looked like white dust/particles on the ground near the exhaust where I parked the car last time. Edit: Yet to change to change the oil as the dealership I bought it from serviced the car prior to sale.
  12. Gday guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I recently bought an BA Mk II XR6T, 6 speed manual, premium pack, with 150k on the clock. Only noticeable mods to the car were an F6 intercooler and F6 CAI snorkel fitted. Now, to the problem. I have noticed a white powdery dust/smoke that has been emmitting from the exhaust at high boost. Prior to this the only issue I had with the car was the plastic pipe that connects the intercooler return pipe to the engine would pop off under boost. I replaced a dodgy clamp with a new heavy duty one which fixed that problem. Being a long weekend I have to wait til Wednesday before I can take her to the mechanics for an inspection. After searching here and other Ford forums I'm still scratching my head as to what it might be. I'm kind of leaning towards the Cat convertor being shot but I have heard of gaskets on the turbo causing white smoke too? Any ideas/answers would be most appreciated.
