front or rear of car?

Hi, Sorry if this has been already discussed or asked, im sure over the years it has. Note this is for a BA XR6T Had a new altenator installed (by a "reputable person") on Friday - Had a new battery which I installed. All tested out Okay (14.2 volts at the battery). Turn the key to Accessarys - battery light DOES NOT come on, all the other lights do. (Battery is meant to light up) Turn the car on, cranks and starts perfectly - Suddenly Battery light COMES on - not as bright as say for example the Fuel light or door light. This is driving me mad - it tests out fine - car drives perfect, the light when its supposed to come on stays off, when I start the car when its supposed to go off it stays on. Before I had the alternator changed I got the intermittent Battery light while driving (alternator was clearly fialing - was smoking hot and burnt wire smell - pretty obvious) Can someone possibly enlighten me on why the battery light is doing the opposite to what its supposed to do, while reading the correct voltage in the tests. Is their anything this installer may or could of done to casue the lights to do the oppisite. in all honesty I dont think their is a problem with either the battery or alt. Much Appreciated all. within 3 months of purchasing it not mater the problems, regardless of what it is, its dealer that's responsible (unless it has been modded since or obviosuly treated sh*thouse-which I highly doubt it has) . did u get an extended warrenty with a company like awn?or similar. im from perth,bought a 2nd hand ba xr6t, turbo sh*t itself, diff sh*t itself.I treated it like a new baby. the trubo got dealer replaced (was within 3 months of buying car), diff got replaced on extended warrenty even before the 1st 10k service was due (was about 5 months after buying car).the warranty company was based in QLD. got serviced by a "qualified and registered" mechanic and all was sweet.

every single person I've spoken to says new column in regards to ignition problems, as its all built as one piece so nothing can be replaced indivudually., they changed their ways on the bf though. ford charge over 2k installed, goto a wrecker and get one for 150-200.

yer end up getting 2nd hand column sent from QLD for 150 bucks + 150 for 2 hrs labor. kept my original barrel and key- Ford wanted 2k to do a new colomn. Yer bit odd it fell to bits just all of a sudden. Funny though the day it happened I had to park 500meters away from my work as opposed to the carpark I usually parked in.suss

nah not that mate, key just spins in the barrel, no clicking etc, its the infamous ignition failure on the BA .sterring coloumn was opened up and ignition switch was in pieces..anti theft feature they say.

Hey Guys, I apologize in advance if this has been discussed and or is in the wrong area. However, I Hope someone can help me out. Basically my ignition has gone arse up in my BA Turbo. A mechanic has looked at it and then contacted ford and then told me its a 2k job for a new steering column installed. Anyway, ive been told by my mechanic that its ONLY the ignition switch that has gone bad BUT it CANNOT be bought individually and only be bought as a whole part in the coloumn (that's when buying it from Ford-which apparently is the only people that can have this part when brand new). Im just curious if - A- I can get a ignition switch just on its own off a wrecked BA and it can be attached to my current coloumn (or does it mean once its disconnected from the column its damaged and cant be reused?) B- I can buy a whole 2nd hand column off a wrecked BA and just basically replace my screwed one with the 2nd hand one - If this option is the case can I keep my current Barrel and Key and not have to get it recoded or anything? - I have been looking at a column that's going rather cheap on the net - but it has no key nor barrel. I wouldnt mind hearing of someone with a phantom or "thruple" lol, WITH the orange stripes in perth, I guess being "unique" is good thing yeah? hha

lol I agree, although I think its more the orange "racing stripes" as they call them, that I get most of the criticism for....I get plenty of "does it make ya car faster" n all that typical stuff haha

I havent seen anyone yet in perth, and im sure allot will say "that's the most horrible colour/s" but I wanna know if anyone out there other than myself has the phantom body/ with orange stripes in perth. ive only had my ride for over a month but even before ive never seen it. and also I think it looks nice and I havnt had an issue wif any chick saying its ugly yet either lol...

get the turbo only if your "somewhat" expirienced"but as your not, really dont waste ya money mate. my first turbo is my newly beloved 04 ba. Drove v6 commy before for my first 3 years of driving, and that was "powerful" enough lol,... I now appreciate the new turbo/ford;) allot more!

piked up a ba xr6t (new owner as seen in previous posts-sorry if im coming accross as a paranoid pain in the arse ex-commy drive lol) but anyway,...as im driving (particually on the freeway or at faster speeds) I can hear a constant light "clunking" noise in the rear, initially it reminded me of like the spare wheel moving around or something basic like that or even the spoiler moving around, ive checked both and nothing changes... Ive been told apparently the diff on these babies aren't top notch... its an auto and so theres no rough gear changes or anythin like that. I figure its the diff as I can hear the noise on different sides (of the rear end), dependant of which way I turn the steering wheel. is this a common prob (if so is it something that I shouldnt worry about??)... and is it sumfin I should address (id prefer not to address as I just bought it and obviosuly aint under warranty or any of that sh*t) cheers!

alright, sweet as, thanks for the replys. I'm just sick of heat issues with cars, its the only problems ive ever had with cars even with regular services and good maintenance. as its new to me (its just done over 130 clicks) I want it to last for a very decent amount of time. cheers fellas, im more settled now haha.

wen I get out and I smell the front vent it reminds me of burning rubber or possibly plastic, more rubber though. similar to wen I would do a burnout I guess (note I havent done a burnout in this car). As I have never had a 4litre turbo, I have only had a couple vt+vx v6 and a vy ss I dont know if this is a normal smell on fords and/or turbos... once again I could be just being paranoid as it is new and all that sh*t lol but all temps are fine, levels are all fine im just worried it could be turbo related...I guess if the turbo is pushed hard its expected to put off a "funky" smell. I could be wrong?

just another thing, after driving the car hard to test out the turbo (first time ive owned a turbo) is it normal for a, its hard to describe but a "hot smell", its not the sort of smell as you get from an overheating engine or a maple syrup type coolent smell, and it aint really an oil smell, its hard to describe,abit more like plastic or rubber, theres no smoke or anything, not sure if its common on turbo cars or just these makes..?

ok, so just found a topic on the f6 temp gauge. apparently the gauges on them will rise to 75% on start up if you have been driving then turn off then back on again and then drops quickly back to normal. bit more comforting I guess

goes between a tick before halfway and halfway as im driving, genrelly sits on half way if im giving it a squirt or too (its a hot day also today and I only got it this morning). when I turn off the car and turn back on, somtimes, but not always, gauge goes upto 75% and then as I sit in car it just slides back to halfway or a tick before halfway within 30 seconds or so. maybe im just being paranoid cause I just got it and I have had over heating issues in my previous vehicles.

So I have just bought my first ford, I have driven commodores my whole life. I got a BA XR6T. The running temp on the gauge sits halfway or "just" a tiny bit to the left. Is this normal for fords or xr6? also, when turning the car back on after driving it for a while the gauge its rather high probably 75 percent and then creeps back to halfway withing 30secs-1min, what I up with that? never expirienced it in a commodore, Some nice advice would be appreciated! thanks
