  1. hey guys having some trouble with my BA XR6 Turbo 5spd manual. got the car for cheap as and found it doesnt make any boost... with a friend and lots of advice from people I work with we have: taken the Turbo off aswell as the Actuator and wastegate assembly and sent it to MTQ in Brisbane (where I am located). was returned saying it was fine. Put a different turbo-back stock system on from a mates car that we know isnt blocked and put a aftermarket cat back system on. all new piping cold and hot side and new intercooler. different plugs and coils different actuator tried different boost solenoid and even bypassed it (codes said there was a solenoid fault when looked at with IDS before any work was done) checked boost solenoid wiring for continuity Blocked off the BOV to make sure it wasnt leaking sent the ecu off for diagnosis but the company said they cant check on the boost side of the ECU (useless I know, if you know a company that can check the boost side of the ECU for faults that would be great as I cant find one) after all this my only thoughts of what it could possibly be is maybe the flapper cant close properly even if the actuator does work (but the assembly was sent to MTQ and cleared?) or that the ecu does not want the car to make boost and has a internal fault. with the IDS set up on a drive the car made just past atmospheric pressure but barely and at the first hint of boost the solenoid opens right up, disconnecting and bypassing the solenoid makes no difference. havent had a drive with the solenoid disconnected (and IDS hooked up) but it drives exactly the same. just completely stuck here... get off p-plates in 1 week so then I can drop it at RDP in brisbane to see if they can find out the problem on the dyno or computer and current getting our mastertech to look at it but if you guys have any idea's it would be great to hear from you. cheers for reading guys
  2. yeh it seems its boosting a tiny bit. pulled the turbo of today and found a tiny crack in the wastegate but MTQ said it wasnt leaking at all and the rod and actuator was fine so now im getting a catback system because of a collapsed cat I had, which I replaced with a factory cat section but I reckon all the insides of the cat have gone back in the system and make it restrict flow so it cant boost. and while im at it im gettin a new cooler and piping since the older ones are getting brittle... so they are on the way, really hope it fixes it cooler is HDi SIR-X with turbo to cooler piping and cooler the crossover piping leaving a standard in-take still exhaust is twin 2.5 xforce catback hopefully with the turbo breathing properly it will work fine, if not then I know its the turbo itself even if it was cleared by MTQ ill check ya updated
  3. Hey all, I got my xr6t a RWC the other day so I can drive it when I get off P-plates but we found out on the test drive that (first time driven for more then 5 metres in 6 months) it is not making any boost at all. we set the computer up to check the MAF and boost response etc during the drive and it wouldnt go past 111kpa and 104kpa at idle, no boost. we had a quick look at the compressor housing and its spinning fine and all the hoses are connected so the general thoughts are on monday we will take it off to check the exhaust housing to see if that's ok and then the flapper to see if its jammed or crooked then finally the actuator itself as these seem to be the main culprits. we only had 30mins from finding this problem to clock off time and weekend so I thought id post and see if anyone else has any idea's on what it could be and if anyone know some good turbo accessory shops around brisbane incase I do need a new actuator. if I do I wont be putting a stock item back on probably a 8psi actuator used on minum setting and different flap to stop bleeding and everything then a tune after obviously. any info you guys give would be much appreciated, cheers
  4. nah when I do piping and new intercooler, hot and cold sides, im gettin a 4' race box but gotta think of where to put the battery after, cuz I dont want it down under the intake or anything cuz I want to be able to access it easy so maybe a boot job
  5. ah k cool. due to the fact I hate doing things twice im leaving my whole cooler and intake set up stock for a couple years and then get the process west 2.5 kit. dont wanna spen 1000 on all the piping and intake just to replace it later, can spend it on other stuff ill keep yeh im guessing ill have to get a aftermarket BOV to get the sound I want as the stock one seems to be either very queit or flutter. anyways let the saving begin!
  6. do you have to do this if you want to install gauges? theres no easier way? hha looks like a nightmare
  7. ah cheers thanks mate, is it loud? cuz I dont want it too quiet, but I know its hard for 6's too sound good, atleast the alloytec v6's are but they are a completely different system
  8. SMB? what kinda dump etc? guessing 4'' aswell? do they sound good?
  9. ah really, dunno why they wouldut such a restriction there on a performance exhaust...lol anyways seems like a hurricane dual 2 1/2 is a strong option my mate has one sounds insane...but its all happening in september so more research to do anyways
  10. im doing racebox now not UBCAI cuz of that exact problem, plus I can use it when I up the power in a couple years im thinking xforce 4"dump 4" cat and twin 2 1/2" system before nizpro has said the rear muffler in the 3 1/2" system is only 2 1/2 " so it restricts flow quite alot
  11. hey guys, some of you know me by now but im fitting out a 02 BA xr6t for when I come off my P's in september. by the time I will be driving the car it will have: Injectors Valve Springs Tune T56 Short shift (not really needed in the exhaust making process but just to give you all the info) Fuel Pump Turbo oil line Hot Side Piping from RAPID UB CAI from RAPID (going for the crazy spool and intake sound :D ) now my querry is, which exhaust? a mate of mine who works in a exhaust shop says 4" dump, 3 1/2 " cat, and twin mendrel bent 2 1/2" cat back (hurricane system) he says they sound gnarly while having no drone and the sound is just unreal my mechanic says they use the xforce 3 1/2" system which 4" dump and 4" cat he doesnt say what the sound is like but does note that it is deeper from his POV, no complaints from his customers he has used it on and much easier to make power with. im just wondering if you guys have came across a system which you find to be good for performance while also sounding absolutely insane. most types of systems will suit my performance needs as for the next couple years ill be sitting at 300rwkw or so as my mechanic refuses to go past that on stock bottom end, which I am happy with as I dont want the car to miss a beat. and I trust his opinion as he has been working on them since 02 or so:D down the track (3 to 4 years) I will be getting a fg f6 bottom end and plenum + intercooler so I wouldnt mind it if the exhaust im getting will be able to handle the power that that combo will then generate thanks for taking the time to hear me out and cant wait to hear from you cheers, damien
  12. yeh mate it does, its PW UB CAI that wont fit if your Hot Side piping is stock, I had to look into it too
  13. so even if it vents into a plumb-back you cant get that sound? damn was hoping to be legal lol. did you tighten up your BOV so it doesnt vent?
  14. ah cool looking at things and budget I might get the UB CAI from Rapid along with the Hot side pipes :D (along with injectors valve springs tune etc). alot of sights say you cant do the UB CAI with factory cooler, but do they mean the factory cooler hotside pipes? so since im getting rid of them and using the rapid ones there is the free area for the UB CAI filter then under the battery? was also wondering, as I havent driven the car properly yet it isnt registered and has no exhaust from the dump back so not the best idea to drive it... does the factory BOV make much noise? I wanted a sharp release while being loud. I dont want a dose or flutter I just want a mega loud intake and spool noise with a nice loud and sharp BOV (yes I know that flutter doesnt hurt your turbo or anything I just prefer this sound :D ). looking forward to heaing back fella's cant wait till I can drive it!
  15. LOL hell yes! I dont mind about the flutterdump but I love that intake. yeh it is getting tuned at the same time, with injectors and valve springs aswell :D so you guys reckon the big racebox? and what size pipes on the hot side and cold size normally? its a 02 BA so im prob not gonna up the boost to much as the rods arent that strong but we will see how we go! was gonna go PROCESS WEST stage 2 or maybe the racebox now...
  16. hey spoony, thanks for that and yeh the boys at RDP had a look at it today pretty thoroughly, some of the suspension does need work as it is tramping on take off and the cv joint on the tailshaft join is buggered to, luckily the tailshaft is a built one so no worries there. went looking for a 2nd hand cat to suit (standard one) but cant find one anywhere near redcliffe so im going to have to widen my search. the problem is a 2nd hand cat installed is like 150 but a new 100mm cat and dump pipe with a connecting pipe to the old system is 1000 :( (not to mention you will need injectors and a tune with the new dump+cat) so I may leave that until september and go for the full system incl a 3 1/2 inch cat back etc funny thing is the fella who sold it to me provided me with a receipt of 3500 worth of servicing done in january 2011, only problem is when they looked over it, half of it wasnt done...good on ya MIDAS... so on the cards at the moment is a full fix-up, a bit a TLC to the suspension and bodywork. im not driving it until september so that's when ill do the intercooler, piping, CAI, injectors, valve springs, tune, fuel pump, tuyrbo oil supply line and maybe the gearbox as it may not be belting out enough power to need the 6speed, but we will see
  17. ah cheers mate, im doung Ub CAI and fully re-piping of from turbo to intake incl new cooler (plazaman) so hopefully it should sound as good as it goes!
  18. hey all, I got a 02 BA xr6t yesterday and getting some work done today and was wondering, what actually makes that awesome "sucking" induction noise? and how to enhance it? some people say its the cold side piping, other just what boost your running and how hard the turbo is working, while others say the actually induction ( Under Batter CAI). from what I can gather its the turbo pushing out its boost ( making a whistle) then through the cooler to the induction side of the engine and then the pressure of it being pushing through the manifolds into the engine. So, I may be wrong, but would a couple of mods help to really pronounce the sound? such as bigger psi ( safe amount) bigger piping for hi flow, and a intake plenum? if these are the mods that usually increase that nice sound please let me know because it has quickly became one of the things that I like most about the car cheers in advance guys happy hooning!
  19. got the car today, as I thought the cat is buggered, cant rev out properly, has stopages in the power etc cat completely blocks the power sometimes stopping it from making revs at all ( never at idle). anyways got it this morning and it arrived at RDP at redcliffe this arfternoon. so tomoro getting some stuff fixed and ill post again after the tune etc :D
  20. hey guys was looking at the option of not doing the box but I really dont think think its viable with my plans for bigger power later on with the new bottom end. exhaust, injectors and tune this week. getting a t56 6 speed from mal woods in september then and doing a safe tune to 300rwkw with a couple of mods incl cooler, piping, valve springs and under battery CAI etc ill post more as it happens :D
  21. yeh guys thanks tons for your input, PookeyMaster: a short block is the bottom end of the motor sold by itself, the pistons, rods, crank, sump etc all the bits that suffer the wear and tear. a long engine is the top end included, which is the heads, valves and cams etc so for the BA the only real failig is the rods so tog et a new bottom end is like getting a whole new engine :D hope that helps, if not ask me to clarify and ill tell ya some more FordPsi: hey mate that's damn impressive but the N/A blocks apparently take alot less wear and tear throughout their lifetime as they rnt getting forced air and running as high a performance, so luckily your 156k block was probably in much better condition then a turbo xr6 at similiar kay's all being equal. the tuner im going thorugh refuses to go past 400hp at the wheels (which is 299kw I think) on a stock BA engine or even Bf before 06/06 ( the LPG rods)as he hates putting out cars which even have a miniscule chance of failing or dying in the ass. he says they are well capable of 450+ hp at the wheels but they are not reliable so ill probably take his advice and stick to 400rwhp until the shortblock goes in then it will be plenum and actuator and boosting it up :D Mika: hey mate my budget is around 14k so a short block is 5,000 t56 gearbox (essential)is 6,000 valves springs installed are 1,000 turbo oil supply line fitted is 350 Performance Kit is 6650 ---(LION ETA 380-400-- http://www.rdpaustralia.com.au/upgrades-ford-xr6-turbo.html ) check out the link aswell not a bad deal. something has to go and I thought step intot he power not get it all at once so ill do shortblock and actuator a couple years down the track
  22. will do mate, cheers for the feedback cant wait to see some vids from ya!
  23. o and noticed your tag too...330rwkw BA, what did you do for that? as im just about to modify a BA xr6T so I am very keen to hear what you did to get those kind of numbers as that is what I am aiming for. cheers
  24. Ahh right cuz when you say e85 I assume its the 85 ethanol from petrol stations that most ppl say is recycled or something of the sort. thanks for the quick input ill do some researching
  25. hey mate very nice results must be quite a handful. I was wondering, isnt e85 have alot less octane? so dont you need alot more air to get the same mixture? or is that the point? does using that fuel in a sense lower your compression rate of your engine letting it up the psi? just not getting how its making more power as I thought more octance means less fuel into the engine and more boosted air making more power? so confusing im gonna to have to look at this!
