Mechanical guage is more accurate, reacts faster & is cheaper. Electrical Boost guages are balls... Only reason it is a good idea to go electrical oil/water guages is for the simple fact that if they get a leak, you don't have hot oil/water leaking into the cabin of the car. Also, unless oil pressure you can get away with a slight delay that the electrical guages provide.

Diesel mondeo are sweet, although size isn't what you're after. If you want something big I think a falcon or Late model camira is the best bet. Every car in the sub $20k range will have negatives, just depends what you can & will compromise on whilst still being happy enough to own it for a few years.

Aurions are sh*thouse, much like camry & any other mid sized toyota in that price bracket & have no performance. You're looking at these because they're in price range, not because they meet your selection criteria 100% i30 is not a family sized car & will have zero grunt.They don't meet selection criteria at all.
