Well I won't be now, except the short drive to the mechanic tomorrow. But still the question remains on the cost of it...

Audio file of sound. Dunno if it helps or matters, but can hear the sound it is making. My Dad also had a listen to the car and said the sound is coming from Turbo area. Any issues playing back the file, let me know. Cheers. Voice 017.m4a

I can maybe try and get one later on. Will do my best. Trying to work out the $ and cents of it all though.

Hi all, Until a few days ago my car was fine, just noticed a whirring sound when touching the accelerator or accelerating at all. Seems to be when the turbo is spooling up. Car has done 175,000 KM - Manual transmission. Doesn't get flogged very often, take it pretty easy on it since I had the diff rebuilt (A headache in itself. Stay away from Midas in Wooloongabba QLD) I took my car to the mechanic this morning to have them take a listen, bloke came for a short drive and he said it sounded like turbo is shot. He said it would cost about $1500 to replace the turbo... Is this accurate? It does seem to be turbo related due to the whirring, winding, electronic type sound when there is some pressure going through it. Just after some advice from others. Thanks in advance.

Fair point. I have my car back already, am paying off the diff costs. Probably isn't worth the time trying to go to FairTrading or whatever. Anyway, wish me luck, driving the car into NSW tomorrow, so a 1000km round trip should be good for testing the car out... And expensive with the current fuel costs...
-
Good to know that that price isn't too bad for a sedan, which mine is. But yeah, all the other stuff that has come with this tale of annoyance. Hmmmm. Anyone think I should question paying the 3k?
-
I went there because I was able to use Certagy or whatever the hell it was. So I could pay it off. I regret going there bar being able to pay it off. But as said a few times now, with all the sh*t they have made me go through and I have hardly had a car this year due to taking it to them each month and leaving it there for a few days each time, then this whole 6 week period, I feel I shouldn't even have to pay the 3k. I spoke to fair trading also.
-
Well this is all true and what I am saying is based on fact, so in that case. If anyone is in Brisbane do not go near Midas in Wooloongabba. I say that based on what I said above.

I was told my Ford a few years back that I may need to get the centre mount looked at at some point, but it wasn't urgent. When I took it to this mechanic to do the aforementioned rear hubs/bearings it was then they said I needed to have the diff re-built after the car started making a knocking sound which the bloke orignally said "Your tail shaft needs replacing, is causing the knock, but the knocking sound might still be there even after you get that replaced" Then it was "Might be able to find a second hand diff for you for around $1000-1500". They found a diff, but it wouldn't fit, then told me they couldn't get a second hand one, followed by "It will need to be rebuilt" 3k
-
Yeah I don't feel I should have to even pay the 3k for the diff rebuild since they have screwed me around so much. I got the car back today and took it for a drive, seems okay now. But am still feeling that is beside the point. I will name them if I am allowed to, I saw the sticky about slander and wasn't sure if I were allowed to or not.

Hi all, I will try and keep this short, and I will also not be naming the business I took my car to. December last year I took my XR6T to get hubs/bearings put into the rear of my car (I sourced the parts), I get my car back and am told there is a knocking sound in the rear - this sound wasn't there before I took it to them. Was told the tailshaft may need replacing, but the car is fine to drive. I took my car for a drive some 80km round trip to test my car - seemed fine except for the knocking when slowing. Went to get new rear tyres put on that day at Jax (naming them as they have always done a brilliant job) - but they wouldn't touch my car as previous company doing hubs/bearings didn't do all the bolts up correctly into the rear arm of the car for the wheels, about 4 of them hanging on by a few threads ( I took photos) After having the bolts done up proper at the first company, I drove to NSW the following day doing some 1000km round trip - car knocking all the while when slowing or changing gear (manual) When I got back I got the tailshaft fixed but was told the knock sound may still be there (umm?) even though they said that was causing the knock. So I got it done (free) and knock was still present. I was then told I needed my Diff rebuilt - $3000 - So I went ahead and got that done as apparently they couldn't source a second-hand diff from anywhere. Cut to today - Over the last 5 months my car has been back to this mechanic for them to fix my car up proper. They have now had my car a total of 6 weeks straight - bar the two hours I had it Wednesday before another issue popped up This is what happened during that time/been replaced overall: Replaced tailshaft - knocking still there. Was told it was handbrake spring - adjusted; knocking in rear still. I told them it must be the diff. They said no, even tried to blame my "driving style". Finally told them to just keep the damn thing and sort it out, so in the six weeks: Handbrake shoe, Diff Hat, axles, brakes, handbrake spring, Diff mount, control arms - and various other things. Just trying to eliminate this knocking - which they finally did, but then another problem popped up during my 2 hours of having it back. Turning left or right could hear a scrape, went back to them, they popped the rear wheels off and the hubs/bearings I sourced and they installed were chipped on the left side and the scraping was the sound of metal on metal - they hadn't adjusted something correctly. What I am wanting advice on, is I am still paying the 3K off all the other work they have done free of charge (so they should) - but personally I feel I shouldn't even have to pay the 3k now given the amount of stress and inconvenience this has caused over 5 months. Have hardly had my vehicle. Does anyone think I have grounds for anything here? I'll add this Tl;Dr : mechanic charged me 3k for diff rebuild - Caused other problems on vehicle - knocking in rear - Replaced nearly all parts (Free) under car to eliminate knocking - success - Caused other problem - Now had to replace Hub/bearing that hadn't even done 2000km due to scraping when turning. - Feel I shouldn't have to even pay the 3K.

Will fit in an 03 XR6T I am guessing? How much would you want for the insert?
-
Hey, yeah that seems to be the other issue, I am just after the inserts not the whole door trim. Seems to make the task a bit more difficult.
-
I'll give that a go. Cheers. Just hard to find out what stock they have etc.

Hey guys, Just a quick question which I am sure you have all heard or been asked a thousand times already. I had a quick look on the forum and was unable to see a topic regarding this, possibly due to me being a blind sod. Anyway. I have an 03 XR6T with the standard seats being black with the grey pattern. Does anyone know where I could get the door insert pattern parts in the Phantom colour? I have looked on ebay and a guy wants some $700-$800 for just the insert/trim bit (I dunno what to call it, sorry) Looking to do the front and back and then find someone to do upholstery on the seats. Am in Brisbane if that makes a difference. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

Whoops. I am all over the place. Going with these instead haha. As can get two of them. Bearing and hub. Lock it in Eddie! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201074102533?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Think I have decided to go with these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-REAR-WHEEL-BEARING-KIT-FORD-LTD-FALCON-BA-BF-IRS-2002-ON-FG-IRS-08-10-4582-/191004381065?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c78bf8f89

Comfort series bushes were put in, and the noise was there before putting them in. Hence the reason I am looking to replace the back wheel bearings, if some can be found for a good price.
-
That they are. I will have a look around and see if I can find something a bit more acceptable on the price front.
-
Thanks mate for all your input. The front ones were easy to choose. Rear ones are being a pain. I have looked at the ones you posted (is appreciated. Just $230 seems pretty damn steep.

Sorry for being so dumb on this, but....IRS? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/REAR-WHEEL-BEARING-KIT-FORD-LTD-FALCON-BA-BF-IRS-2002-ON-FG-IRS-2008-10-4582-/201004964429?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eccd45a4d

I am taking on board what k31th said a few posts back, what he posted is what I will go for, the hub kit etc. What do you blokes think of these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TWO-REAR-WHEEL-BEARING-KIT-FORD-FALCON-EA-EB-ED-EF-EL-AU-BA-BF-FG-XG-88-98-2985-/191048699927?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c7b63d017 TWO BRAND NEW WHEEL BEARING KIT (REAR) PART NUMBER: 2985SUITS: FORD FALCON EA EB ED EF EL (1988 - 1998) FORD FALCON AU BA BF WAGON (1998 - ON) NOTE: BEAM AXLE FORD FALCON FG WAGON (2008 - 2010) NOTE: BEAM AXLE FORD FALCON UTE XG (1988 - 1996) It says 1998 - On. So I am guessing that would mean and onwards to a 2003 BA XR6T and umm...Beam axle?
-
Ok, thanks. I will have a a further look into it. Hopefully come across something cheaper!
-
Ah. I see. I am easily confused when it comes to car stuff haha. I got the hub and bearings for the front as I thought I needed the whole unit So with now knowing that, I will probably try and get the hub/bearing kit for the back also.
-
Thanks for the links, mate. I'll have a look. I am just confused as they look different to the ones I got off ebay for the front. Oh I have no idea haha Why are they so much different to the ones I got: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/220872359859
