JB or others Sorry to go off topic but what sort of noise is associated with struggling valve springs is it for example anything like the pinging noise you get from detonation ? Steve

Ahh, the dreaded surging problem...........something that even the capa edit has'nt been able to fix, without compromising a meaningful gain in mid range power that is

If the dealer is so sure that you will sell yours before the T arrives no doubt he won't mind you making the purchase subject to the sale of yours

I dont know whats more impressive, a carwash that smells better than a girls hair or a wife that puts out in the back seat of a car...........hold on yes I do.

Well if said it it must be true. that's it Im never wearing a seatbelt again ..............I suppose the same would apply to rear seatbelts as well so my kids are going to just hang on to each other

Welcome Martin, on the technical front whats the latest with finding a solution for the surging / boost control issues being experienced by the majority of custom tubned cars ? Cheers Steve <{POST_SNAPBACK}> no more surgeing/boost spikes. we seem to have worked out the surge now and are well and truly having smoooth repeatable results. no longer an issue. dave <{POST_SNAPBACK}> that's great Dave, how do I and others go about benefitting from this breakthrough, can the details be made available to the WA based edit distributors?

My wife took mine for a drive once and I was worried that it would come back like it had been stolen.............does that count

Congrats JB the midrange power looks like it would be dream to drive. Obviously your patience and the collective efforts of HPF, ST and others I assume paid off. I'am just going to put my knitting away, put on my favourite bonnet and drive home in my 237rwkw slug. Cheers Steve

Martin, Could you please let us know whats the latest with finding a solution for the surging / boost control issues being experienced by the majority of custom tuned cars ? Cheers Steve

Yeh dont stress I bet if you shopped around you gain at least another 20rwkw on another Dyno, they really do vary that much. Next to the strip seat of the pants is a good guage so if you have driven another one and it felt similar dont second guess and beat yourself up over what you perceive to be a less than satisfying result. Dont worry I've been where your at I only had 171 rwkw and that was with filter CAI and centre muffler mods. Now with edit I have 240rwkw which once again on another Dyno could be worth up to 260rwkw. Now go and find something to waste and you'll feel a whole lot better

If it's got a CAPA sticker on the top of the box it will be tuneable. If not ring the dealer you got it from request an updated one and change it over. You shouldn't be inconvienced at all ( drive on standard tune whilst waiting for a new box ) unless they are prepared to refund you your money until the new one arrives. Quite simply they didn't provide you with what you paid for. xrturb, unless the replacement re-tuneable box contains one of CAPA's updated tunes (only recent) it will be the same generic tune as before. Only they or ST for that matter can enlighten you as to the virtues of the updated tune. Steve

Ditto.............I guess that makes us the SCT pioneers and worthy of recognition as test pilots...............or monkeys depending on how you look at it

I agree totally!! Have been using the gloss for 8 months and it is the best by far. Have tried the rest. I also use it on my work car and it cops a flogging and still looks good!! Cragin <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep.........as it states on the bottle "Last weeks not days" Tried them all this is good oil

No shortage of info about what total rwkw's forum cars are running but little is said about mid range power. In an attempt to get the best out of the CAPA edit I have had a number of custom tunes where the focus has been on bringing the boost on earlier. Whilst this has caused some issues with surging (still working on a fix) having an additional 20 rwkw over and above the standard CAPA tune @ 3250 rpm has been very nice indeed. It's great to break traction in an auto @ 4500rpm, however imo having the go down low is just more useable for a daily driver. Interested to know what sort of midrange power other modded T's are achieving For comparison sake, I have had up to 160 of a total 237rwkw available @ 3250rpm. Steve

It really started to struggle at 260 rwkw, then took it to 286rwkw struggled but seemed to be hanging on. With in a couple of thousand km at 300 rwkw it died. I like to accelerate hard from stand still no stalling I didn't here any noise till the very end. After driving with the new box I'd say the auto has been failing for some time as I started to increase the power levels back in August 2004. symtoms, just slow between changes 2-3, 3-4 gear. Big time slipping accelerating in 3rd gear over taking. At least my baby feels like new again Now I just need to keep it that way and increase my power again. macka <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Very usefull info thanks macka Nothing wrong with the once bitten twice shy approach Cheers Steve

One point that hasn't been raised is that the T offers you a performance auto. If your like me and do a fair bit of driving in heavy traffic, a modded auto T will give you an easy and comfortable car to drive that's still quicker than most things on the road. If it's all out performance that your after its a no brainer, stick with a REX

macka I know you're looking for answers but can I ask you a couple of questions. Given you have obviously been through the unpleasurable experience of having an auto sh*it itself, maybe you could save others from suffering the same fate. At what power level did it faulter? Did it happen as a result of some aggressive treatment on your part? Did you do alot of stalling, heavy acceleration off the line, dropping it back @ speed etc.? What were the signs of it dying if any I.e. new and unusual noises etc. Sorry to make you re-live the pain but by revisiting the past you may be able to save others the heartache of a rebuild or worse. For what its worth the dynamics of my auto has changed with the edit I.e firmer shifts / change points however someone wiser than me would have to tell you whether that's a good thing for box life longevity / strength or otherwise. Steve

I don't know what there worth but if it helps you to sell them I'lll throw my old set in for nothing

Why is this necessary ... stay on topic ... you too Geeseman ... getting tired of the "mines better then yours" ... My allegence is too my Tuner ... if he didn't do APS tommorrow I would follow ... he puts most of you knobs to shame! Just my 2c ... Cheers, Jason. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "Knobs".......now theres a good word

Whilst I haven't had the custom tune done yet, I believe that the updated tunes would be transferred into your flash box. Moreover, the release of Quicktune will make the transfer/modification of tunes even easier. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am just an edit user and therefore far from being a technical expert however as my car has spent up to 8 hours on the dyno being customed tuned thus far I am starting to get a pretty good understanding of how the process works.....I think! As tuners continue to develop various maps to suit different vehicles they will compile stock piles (saved on laptop I assume) for future use. For example lets say whilst having a custom tune the tuner identifies that your vehicle is suffering from surging @half throttle and perhaps the wastegate is not performing as it should or valve springs become an issue. In this instance the tuner can upload a tune developed previously for a car with similar characteristics and use that tune as a starting point, which can then be tweaked further to suit your individual requirements. Lets not forget this is still a new product that needs time to be fully understood by Tuners to get the best out of it as was the case with LS1 edit. I may be wrong however that's my take on it

Auto with centre muff. mod, CAI and filter CAPA custom tune Edit @ 223 rwkw. Going back for another tweak once the tuning gurus have got their collective heads around the Edit product. For what it's worth the default CAPA 10psi tune showed 230 rwkw only to be 195rwkw on a different dyno (both Dyno Dynamics). Now with 223rwkw its a sh*t load quicker..........go figure. Instills alot of confidence in Dyno accuracy Steve
