Good info blackbird, Gives me more confidence to get one, even though some people have negetive views. It all depends on your own experiences and wether you've done it properly or did a backyard job. There must be something in this water injection, WRC cars use it. Some of the quicker drag cars use it. F1 used it on their turbo cars. The Yanks are reporting some big power increases using WI on their turbo & supercharged diesels. Link below Suppose the only way to find out is to install one get the Xede retuned & see what happens. Only 2 more sleeps to go. Really looking forward to the my first cruise and meeting the people, who's posts I've been reading since I joined. It will be great to be able to put a face to the personalities and talk about the best CAR Ford has built since the GTHO and what everyone's mods would be if money was no object. It would be good if some more people could join us at the last minute. Cannot think of a reason not to come along (weathers to cold for house projects, Ambrose does'nt race till next weekend) Anyone not doing anything better should post a reply and come along. See ya's Sunday and safe drivin.
-
Miss_Aly, You can count me in for 2 people if that's what everyone else wants to do. We should try and organise a cruise around the track later in the year when the weather is warmer and the day's are longer.

I understand where your coming from SR-71 Blackbird. But I feel there could be some good results to be gained from the T considering it's Intake restrictions and lack of suppliers and competitive prices to make upgrading the IC a fiscal option for most T moders. The only options at present are APS & Nizpro who offer intercooler upgrades and they are quite expensive if you want to purchase seperately. Which is OK because they have done a lot of R&D and need to recoup costs and are both great products in their own right. You can purchase a Aquamist Water INJ SYS 2C Comp Kit & Race pump for $1084 + GST that uses a map to control it operation. Which Lachlan has posted the Xede can do. As nowone has tried it yet I think It would be a good experiment. There seems to be no reason why there should be no performance gain. Here is a link that has some good info for those that would like to read it and they can make up their minds and hopefully post their thoughts. Let's keep the Brain juices flowing. WaterInjection.doc

Thanks I give them a try. What are your thoughts on the WI you running a high power output machine.
-
I think that you'll find that WI should actually get an increase in performance. If it is done properly. Right water ratio to injector flow. Water injection is used as a air charge coolant that allows you to run higher boost and more aggressive timing and leaner A/F ratios or run higher boost on lower octane fuels with out the fear of detonation. Not all fuel is burnt during ignition no matter how good the tuner is. The fuel that is not burnt actually acts as a coolant within the cylinder, this is why the T runs so rich. to help keep engine protection at a maximum. Water injection actually slows down the burning process and provides you with more oxygen rich air because of the lower air charge temp and the release of oxygen during the evapouration process. This would allow you to have greater control over A/Fuel ratios and timing, while still helping reduce heat within the combustion process and engine components The tuners stop at a certain A/F ratio because that is the highest power that they can achieve safely before detonation and damage it causes to the engine, not because that is the maximium power that they can get out of the engine If you use water injection in conjunction with an effective IC air charge temp would be greatly reduced giving you greater engine protection while running aggresive tuning and higher boost levels. It would be more benefical during staging than external water sprays because you don't need air passing through the IC to keep air temp down. That is why I have made this post to find out if the Exede is able to control the operation of the water injection system eg switches on at a preset boost level or air charge temp.
-
Just love what the Exede has done for my ute I was wonding if Lok could give me an answer on whether the Exede ecu is able to control a water injection system. eg comes on at a preset boost level and have the ability to give warning of low water level and limit boost level until refilled.
-
I understand what your saying and also agree to a certain point. I don't see it as a band aid solution but an enhancement to the efficency of intercooling and engine protection. Other wise why are people talking about or making external watersprays. Anything that you can do to reduce air charge temp must be good for your engine. The added bonus is the ability to elimate pre-ignition before it happens. Is'nt this the reason why tuners spend so much time on the dyno getting the Air/fuel ratio sas lean as they can to maximise fuel combustion. It would allow you to tune your air/fuel ratios to be more aggresive = (higher boost = more power) so that your not using the extra fuel as a cooling agent which is basically why they run the cars so rich to protect the engine. You can preset it to come on at a certain boost to eliminate pre-ignition during full throttle applications.

thanks mate, Will make some inquiries. I'll give the people who did yours a ring. Maybe a few other members have some suggestions about auto upgrades.

Yeh Geea, I have looked at your mods and just had another look to refresh my memory. Great reading. Look forward to meeting you on the run to Wonthagi on the 18th as well as well as everyone else who's going. Geea, I see that you have a temp gauge on your intake. What is the temp reading during full throttle during 1/4 mile runs Question for everyone who would like to respond. Has anyone done a water injection kit into intake manifold to increase O'2 level and lower air temp before ignition? Should be able to run higher boost level before denation occurrs provided temp is higher enough in manifold for water to fog. Does anyone know this temp

I like the idea of the switch and 2nd map. Will the Auto handle it or should I have some work done on it first. Already had one replacement and have lost a little confidence in the stength of the box. Simon has the boost coming on early in the tune compared to the standard settings.
-
If Geea is right then I still have another 30 - 40 kw left to play with. So injectors would be next!!! yes Oem injectors must be close to their limit at 300 flywheel kw? Auto must be close to limit as well do you think? Another dumb question. Is the auto trans in the xr6t the same as one in the xr8 & gt. If so why are so many people reporting trouble with the boxes in the T. Have'nt found many copmlaints from the V8 men. I've already had 1 box replaced under warranty.
-
Thanks Geea, Yeh, I will be having a go soon. I haven't been down the track for some time so the first few goes might be a little slow but it will still be fun. Do you think I'll have enough grunt to get close breaking into the 12's? By the way great time last night keep the good times rollin. I'm gunna try and catch you. Probably later than sooner.
-
I know this question has been asked 100 times or more but I'm lazy and don't have the time to search through the archives to find info. Just need a quick estimate as to how many kw the stock intercooler is good for. I now have approx 300kw at the flywheel how much more have I left before I have to upgrade to larger intercooler.
-
 Thanks guys for the good vibes, I have gone in a different direction than most. No affillation to one particular tuner. I have used different components form different tuners. That in my opinon offer exellence in their field. Mods used Herreod exhaust cat back. BMC Air filter, Exed chip tuned by nizpro. Now I will talk to APS to see what they have to offer in components and knowlege with injectors and auto trans upgrades. I plan to use the best components from all sources to get more power. Because their are so many variations and combinations of components from all tuners I believe that a combination of all will give the best result. I am also in the process of designing & developing my own intake system too. :o

Hi fellow xr6turbo lovers. Just finished second stage of mods and cost to date is $2500 I now have 237 rwkw using pulp 95ron. Do think this is a good result? I know that I could probably get more kw using 98 ron but it is not readily available in my area, so I had it tuned on 95ron. The car is even more of a pleasure to drive than before. The extra power becomes addictive does'nt it.
-
I'll be there. Really looking forward to it. Should have my next mod done by then.
-
Do you think that the better airflow comes from the shape of the pod as opposed to the rectangle shape of the XR6 box.
-
I had Herrods put exhaust on mine and I love the sound of it when it's idling sounds close to a 8 pot but still sounds like a T at the same time hard to explain. I'll be interested in comments about it on the wonthaggi cruise on the 18th
-
Thanks Jamie XR6, Did you feel the car had better throttle responce. (Barry claims 10 rwkw) compared to original box. And did you try a better quality filter like BMC in the original air box before changing to your new setup? Neil
-
jetute, Do you think that there would be any throttle response gain using XR8 pod & filter compared to the original XR6 box using a BMC filter. Or would it be better to find a way to push more air into original box with BMC filter It's the actual filter that gives you gain from what I seen from my dyno results.
-
Jame XR6, That's exactly what I want. If it's not a rode ? what did this cost you from Ford dealer and did you need any other brackets to bolt filter body to body work. Did you feel any improvement in throttle responce? I'll order one tommorow.
-
Yeh, As I plan to turn the car over every 40,000 km through business I thought I'd go for the mild steel exhaust and put the remainder of $1300 into other mods like intake & piggy back ecu. Can change them onto next car. The Xr8 pod would be a purchase through ford dealer. Yes!!! I was going to buy the BTP CAI the product seems good they have sent me price list Intake tube (not needed as you should already have this) Adapter $50 High flow filter K&N for $145.00 or BMC for $185.00 Pod housing $70.00 Pod lid $25.00 Pod lid strap $25.00 Pod bracket to body $51.00 Pod Rubber Boot $50.00 Pod to throttle body tube and clamps $40.00 Intake tube adapter $10.00 Screws $1.20 TOTAL $322.00 (minus filter) I think I'll do something like what a lot you guy's have done as you should be able to purchase a lot of this from Ford or make. What's your thought's I plan to have the Xede done next week would it be best to have CAI done before this or does'nt matter
-
I only have the last Dyno graph to show you I forgot to grab the first one before exhaust was done. I can tell you that the original dyno run produced 170 rwkw which was I thought a little on the low side. I am having converter problems which may have contributed to low result. New trans going in next week that's another story. Here is the end result hope this works first time attaching image file. Turbo6, Their website is not up and running at the moment but here is the ph 94645100

Sound good JB, money well spent Does the car feel more responsive with the intake mods you made, the new exhaust on my car has made the car feel more lively?
