I agree Macka, Herrods are a very professional outfit and are probably the best marketers in the Ford aftermarket. If you want a car that looks and sounds fast Herrod is for you. On the other hand if you want a car that actually go's fast or stops and handles Herrod's is not the place to go. I personally would never use Herrod's because with a bit of research you'll get the same product at a much better price. This coupled with the fact that they can't tune are good reasons to go eleswhere in my book. Geea. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes they are one of, if not the most proffessional Ford aftermarket outfits going around. APS would be the only ones that would rival them and they are both experts in marketing their respective products. They are also one of the few places place that you can drive in and have all the work done in one place then drive out knowing the job has been done properly, without the hassle of having to run around and source everything you want done, just to save yourself a few beer tokens. I don't know about you but every minute or hour that I spend running around collecting mods is money I don't earn. Hence their success. Like I said the mojority of Ford enthusists only want their cars to look and sound good and feel comfortable knowing that FOMOC allows them to use their mods with no warranty issues. You say that Herrods don't tune fast cars and this maybe the case. Maybe they are tuning to customers requests only wanting a modest increase in performance. But where's the proof that Herrods Brembo brake packages are less efficient than Brembro brake packages from lets say for argument sake HPF or anywhere else. It's pretty simple really, if you don't like them, don't use them. You should only bag them if you've had a bad experience with them or their products. I don't hear anyone complaining except for the people who don't have any of their products on their car. macka

I'd say Ford would still be keen to lower the Expensive Daewoo teams driver quality and build up the Ford teams which has been their policy for a couple of years. Lowndes, Ingal, Bugsbunny, Bright to name a few. My money is on McConville. some of my reasons for thinking this are He young and has a go would be fast in a more competitive car like SBR Had a few years experience now He's going know where at Garry Rodges motorsport. one less talented Expensive Daewoo driver to worry about I think Steve Johnson would be a step backwards compared to this driver. GR motorsport is even less competitive than DJR macka

Yeh, have to agree BP, $2400 sounds pretty step. One thing that I don't understand is if Herrod exhausts are just rebadged from other manufacturer why do they have their own distinctive sound. I have not heard any other exhaust options sound anywhere near the same as theirs. On either a V8 or turbo. Anyway, I just get sick of people bagging Herrods stuff just for the sake of having a go at them at any opportunity, especially on the tuning side. I'd say by the look of the quality car they have outside and in their workshop they cater for some pretty well to do people with plenty of folding stuff to spend. They would be people who are not concerned like a few on here about having the fastest car or probably even racing their car at all and concerntrate on having it look . Next time you see a Herrod preped car, have a real good look at it then have a look at one that has been by joe blogs. Its like comparing a T with a typhoon. Chalk and Cheese. So stop the bagging and get back on topic. I have a Herrod exhaust and would by another when the time comes. macka

As far as I'm aware the Exede Chip is only a engine management tuning device. It controls the signals received from the various engine sensors manipulates them then sends the signals that the PCM is happy with and continues to function as if nothing has changed. It has nothing to do with any other functions of the PCM. macka

Don't think there is anything wrong with their gear. It is usually good quality. Probably more to do with the tuning of the vechicle more than their gear. I'd like to see all their gear on a car and tuned by someone else like HPF before you can draw that view. It seems that the only ones complaining about their performance or perseved lack of are the people who don't use any of their gear. If the complaints were coming from their customers then you could say they had a problem. It's not always about having the fasted or most powerful car for a lot of people. But knowing you can leave your pride and joy there and know that it will be looked after in the same manner as you would expect and have piece of mind. You could eat your lunch on their workshop floor and they only have quality cars there. If they were no good they'd be out of business. macka

Don't know if the 2 systems are different or for how long they have been different. I have a Herrod system on my ute. When I purchased mine they were both twin 2.5". I'm happy with the exhaust note from it macka

Hmmmm. The more I think about it the more I like the idea. Aftermarket turbo and headers. Plenty of dumpipe options and it should'nt be hard to find a stock exhaust pretty cheap. Hell Herrods just chuck em out the back and crush em up if you don't want to keep it. Should be able to bypass all the bs ford have built into the T trying to stop you from increasing the power. Probably work out to be a little cheaper than a SC kit look forward to hearing what you decide. It's like anything else. If you've got enough of the folding stuff you can do anything. macka

You'll be able to see some of my handy work. I did a lot of the mining and shaft sinking that you'll see on the tour. macka

Yeh, and the majority of them are still running the factory IC and intake plumping. The very same cars you talk about are still lucky to make over 280 rwkw even with the bigger cats. I don't want to get into an argument. But the facts are, there are more cars running around running using Nizpro and APS stage 1 kits that are making well over 270 rwkw with the standard exhaust than cars with all these you bute exhaust mods. It's been well documented by the above companies who carried out extensive R&D on the matter to prove the gains are very modest to say the least. But at the end of the day if that's what you want to do go for it macka

Yes, he is all of the above but the car should'nt ping after just leaving the tuners shop and supposedly be in tune. Why would'nt the built in safety stratergies of the PCM, be stopping this from happening bu pulling out timing when knock is detected. I think, that was the real intention of Dutchies post. Does a custom tuned edit override them? or if you have to aggresive timing the PCM cannot pull it back enough to prevent it. more info pls macka

Steve, Unless you have somekind of tuning method fitted/installed before you fit a bigger cat you car will overboost like crazy and generally be a pig. As I said they are not like jap engines, Ford have gone out of their way with the engine management system to make it hard for backyard mods to work in the same way as jap engines. macka

Nizpro say the standard exhaust system is more than adequate upto 300 rwkw and this is when they recommend you change it. From my own experiences I found them to be true and accurate. My car was making over 300 rwkw using the standard cat. Even APS don't recommend that you change the exhaust till you acheive something near this power level. These two tuning houses have spent more money and time on R&D on these cars than anyone else so I would follow their advise. These cars are'nt like jap engines where you can bolt this and that on, you have to look at the overall package. I'm not saying it would'nt help, but in the big picture its just one small step. If you want to increase your power put your hard earned into these tried and proven mods first. Tuning Device Injectors Valvesprings larger Intercooler Transmittion upgrades Exhaust mods Engine Internals for over 330 rwkw macka

Mate what are you doing, How did it happen. We don't need another T at the wreckers. Where you running the edit when it happened? If you were please go back to the stock tune if it's raining. These cars can be dangerous if the road is slippery Mate, I took Brians ute for a spin a while back and while the car seemed to make good power it was full of flat spots and I generally did'nt like the way the car pulled. I'm not saying he's a bad tuner I just think that he needs to do more street tuning which is time consuming instead of WOT tuning on the dyno to fully understand what and how the car is behaving. I would have though re-gapping the plugs is the first thing that should be done, once you raise the boost pressure. If your not happy with it get a second OP. macka macka

Hi xrturb, Sorry to hear about the problems you are having. Sounds to me like it's one of their crappy overboost flashes. Miss_Aly had the same problem a while back after she was having overboost issues. When she had it on the dyno it only had 150 - 160 rwkw. I might have the wrong fellow pls forgive me if I have, as I'm not having a dig or anything, but I thought you had the edit for your car. If you did have it, what happens when you load it in. Does it correct the problem? If not, can I suggest that you take it around to the dyno and ask them to drop the exhaust including the cat to see if the boost and power comes back. At least that way you can cross one more item off the list. And ifs it's the cat and get them to try a replacement. Standard boost should be at least 5 - 6 psi as far as I'm aware. 3.5 psi seems very low. That's where you kw may have gone. macka

you forgot to add another tuner if he has all of the above symptons I'd be getting one macka

I'm thinking somewhere between Rocky and Mackay or maybe higher not exactly sure yet. Depends on pending job applications coming through macka

not sure about your vibration but after I had the last transmittion replaced my car developed an annouying rattle/vibration. It semed to be coming from behind the dash or behind the cd player/radio. It was driving me mad and I was going back to get stuck into them about it. On my way there I had to adjust my revision mirror as it had been bumped. As soon as I grabbed it the bloody vibration stopped. Let it go and it would come back again so I made a slight adjustment to how it was sitting and have'nt heard it again. macka

Dutchie something must be wrong. I'd be changing fuels then have Mario retune the car. The pcm can pull out approx 8 degrees of timing in a millisecond or so. To be safe I'd also chuck some larger injectors in it as well. Much cheaper option than an engine. if you are going to try another fuel first try BP Ultimate. I've tried all the others when I was running 300 rwkw and its the only one that never pinged either in Vic or NSW. I think their QC is better very consistant fuel. I bet you can't get the smile of your face good luck with it macka

Thanks Venom That's what I thought. all the parts would be interchangable although most likely a costly exercise. If I was going to go to all that trouble I'd probably get the heads high flowed and a bit shaved of them to raise the compression a little bit while I was at it. Still would'nt ba as quick as the T but you cannot beat the sound of a lumpy V8 idling. Look forward to someone really hotting one of these babies up now that we have a tuning tool for them. macka

Interesting reading, other than some different internals eg (rods & pistons, valves) I still see no reason why you could'nt run the boss 290 camshafts in the 260. Physically they are the same billets with different grinds. No different to the old days of the 302 & 351 clevlands etc macka <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's quite of difference in the two boss motors and the 290 also runs a higher comp CYA JEFF <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They are from the same castings, are they not 5.4 lt. Internals might be different. Unless there is a physical obstruction from casting differences I bet the camshafts and block moulding, would be interchangable to reduce production costs. Just small changes like valve dia, deck hieght or piston crown. The 30 kw most likely comes from better engine balancing, valves and intake breathing and different pcm tuning parameters. Feel free to correct me with blue print specs if anyone has them. macka

No but a decent time slip to back it up would be a good start Because RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi Jeff, I'd say that the guy's he's been tuning for at fist will be pretty keen go racing unlike myself. I was'nt really that fussed about it. I'm sure the times will come when their ready macka

Yeh, at least it won't be us that's getting flamed this time and it's an independent dyno. Nick has a few of these edit cars running around now with this HP so it will help his cause. macka

Well done bambie well you did say to call you bambie from now on. macka
