I never did like those silver spears. My work in progress!

I've been getting a few queries, so I thought I'd share the following with everyone. I used aftermarket mirrors that I sourced on eBay. As I said, the mirrors are aftermarket jobs, but the ambient temperature sensor works perfectly (funny thing is the original one was always 10 degrees out, lol). The mirrors I bought went in fairly easy. Mirror and Door connectors were different shapes, but the wire colour codes are the same. I modified the wiring connectors (on the mirror side so the original mirrors can plug back in later if I want) by removing the individual wires and plugging them straight on to the door loom connectors. I just cut the white plastic away with side cutters, then put a shrink wrap over the outside of each individual wire plug. I just ran the indicator wires through the rubber wiring conduit for the door to front pillar . Made a small hole with a coathanger to poke the wires out of the rubber (ensuring hole was smaller than wire diameter to seal off from dust etc) and ran the wires through behind the guard and tapped them into the repeater wires. (There's a huge gap between the guard and pillar so that part was easy as.) Original repeater plug just plugs straight onto the back of the FPV (or G6E) guard badge (which I plan on changing to a custom one at a later date) to keep dust out of the connector. Took about 90 minutes each side (including door trim removal) and I reckon the end result is worth every second.

PSI40T - There's a pic earlier in this post #18 (or are you referring to pics of the install process?)

Thanks tpinto. I agree, they certainly do add to the car. I did end up using the ebay ones & am pleased with the result. They fit perfect and the temp sensor works for the first time since purchasing the car. Who's doing your badges for you and what are they made of (ABS plastic or alloy)? I'm trying to find someone who can do a pair for me in SA. I'm toying with the idea of an FPV or G6E style badge with XR6 in it
-
Done! And the ambient temperature gauge is now accurate for the first time since I bought the car. Indicators are wired to the existing repeater wiring inside the guards and plugged onto back of badges to stop dust getting in the connector plugs. I was going to colour code the scalps but I prefer them how they are - looks tougher. Just gotta sort out some custom badges................
-
Nice! I'd like to see those custom badges when they're done (post some pics?). On a side note (sorta), the mirror scalp in your pic looks like carbon fibre that's colour coded to the car. Is it? And I don't suppose you took a look at the back of the mirror indicators - my copies(?) have ford emblems throughout the inside of the mirror, but have Volvo on the back of the indicator assembly, lol.
-
Very nice! Did they just plug straight into the existing loom and indicators work? Also, what did you do with the repeaters on the guards (I was under the impression that ADR doesn't allow for both at the same time)

Cheers XR09. I'm just waiting for the cheapies to arrive in the post but the photos appear to have the same wiring connectors as the standard ones (or very similar at least) so will have to wait and see. Yeah, I'm not too worried about soldering wires etc, and I reckon running a couple of extra wires thru the existing wiring conduit into the doors will be fairly easy (Might have to do some minor mods to fit the temp sensor on the left mirror - again, will have to wait and see). I've already installed 4 LCD screens/DVD's in the car (plus a Hi-Def TV tuner and Slimline PS2) with 4 way A/V selectors in the front doors (for each DVD to be used as a head unit for all the other screens etc) so I've probably voided the electrics warranty already, lol. I'd be interested to know how you get on with the GT dash too mate.

Thanks for the heads up tpinto. My car must already have one of those cheap mirrors on the left because my temp has always been about 10 degrees out. On a positive note, I've also sourced a Genuine driver's side item at an obscenely low price so I might as well just pay the $280 odd for the left hand side genuine item too.

Hi all Hoping someone can help me out with a wiring diagram for FG XR6 and G6E. Particularly after the diagram for the electrics on the door mirrors on both models. Cheers
-
Aah. Ok, so if I can work out the individual wires for a G6E and an 08 XR6 mirror setup, I should be able to splice the G6E mirror in (with indicators and mirror adjustments only). Was already thinking along the lines of splicing into the side repeaters (as I've already been in there when I changed to black smoked ones). Will have to hunt down a wiring diagram for the respective mirror setups I reckon. Already have some FPV badges to go where the repeaters currently are for now (might fill them and respray the guards at a later date). Will post results once I've worked out exactly what I'm doing.

Cheers tpinto, very helpful. I've already sourced some mirrors (at a bargain $210 the pair!!!) from ebay. Not sure exactly what they are from coz the description read "suit Ford CGE... FG series" lol. (ebay item # 130450218058) Mainly I'm just hoping to have the electric adjustment and indicators working on them (even if it involves some splicing of wires). I'm also hoping that the ambient temperature sensor on the left one doesn't involve too much wiring modification too. as for the painting, I'll do that myself (20 years experience).

Does anyone know whether the G6ET mirrors with the indicators will fit straight onto an N/A 2008 XR6? Is the wiring loom compatible or do you have to change that on the car? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

How To Remove Centre Console- Fg
FG XXXR6 replied to TURBOXR's topic in Interior & Exterior Workshop
I put my HD TV tuner in between the drinks holder void and centre armrest bin in the actual console. Makes for easy access to the USB input to plug in my Flash Drive for recording and watching movies. The flash drive sits in the iPod pouch with the iPod.
