I thought you were gonna be the test dummy Henz lol?
-
Well I don't know when I'm going to tune yet, need to get my coin together but thanks for the tips! I'll speak to the tuner before booking it and see what he wants me to do with spark plugs and stuff Boos 5.4L. It's been tuned up a bit to about 260-270rwkw and I want 300ish just so I can beat him by a considerable amount lol
-
At the end of the day guys mph and 300rwkw are just numbers, as long as I get notable improvements (primarily smash my old man's GT lol) then I'll be happy. Spoke to Glenn at ESP today and he basically advised if I want to do injectors, cat, cooler pipes and tune then yea that should scrape me 300 and he's happy to do that. He suggests the dump as a good idea to get the boost coming on earlier (I don't know if this is the case but I assume that's the bonus of the dump). He contradicted the other guy I spoke to in that he said he won't tune the car without cooler pipes because they blow off/crack lol, so that problem sorted! He swears the cooler will hold up well though so I'm going to trust him (and JETSNOT) and stick with it So might go without dump and stick to what I originally wanted without the cooler. Sourcing parts myself I should be able to do it all for about $3500 or probably slightly more with them supplying parts. Would prefer them to supply parts because this will cover warranty! Thanks for all the input guys, looks like I'll be taking the conventional way to 300 after all lol

Okay sweet, so cone muffler stays. CV, Tunehouse etc are an option but Im in Canberra so I was only going to them until I found ESP at Queanbeyan (There is also Gentech here aswell). I think I just need to speak to them and get a feel for which I like better, the more I think about it I'll get piping and maybe cooler (install myself), then bolt up cat (do myself) then get the tuner to install injectors and do the tune (probably buy the xcal off them too if a cheap one doesn't come up). That way price will only be a couple of hundred either side and can just choose who I feel comfortable with. I really didn't think the dump was necessary! Going to be fun telling the guys at ESP that I (a uni student) think the dump is a waste of money for me lol
-
Yea I think this sounds the best! Already have an airbox cut open with K n N so would just need the intake pipe. And yea Bomber If I get one it'll be Plaz or Rapid if I get one. Yea that's ESP at Queanbeyan. If I source my own parts then I might go to gentech but looked at their prices and its cheaper to go to CV or Tunehouse in Sydney then go to Gentech. But yea might go see them and see what they suggest and see how much they charge for injectors, cat install and tune.
-
hmmmm hopefully see the tuner 2moro and see if he's keen on me sourcing most of the parts myself and just doing the tune. I think injectors, cat, cooler and pipes is how I want to go.

Hey guys awesome thread to offer some insight into photography! Always wanted to take awesome pics but couldnt justify a dslr, but my 21st is coming up and the mrs doesn't wanna buy me car parts (far enough lol) so considering a camera instead. Adam mentioned the 650d which is just under $1k with the twin lens kit 18-55mm and 55-250mm. Whats peoples opinions? Has this got much over the 600D, its just for beginner entry level Basically my primary thing would be car photos. Second use would be just general holiday photos and stuff. Then random photos after that. Learning to use it will be a different thing lol
-
Sweet thanks for that guys! Diff bushes will come at some point but good to know it won't do much here so I can put it off a bit. I have new shocks going in in 3 weeks so that 'may' help, but I don't think so. Like you said I'll just learn to drive around it
-
Again thanks for the input guys. So is that a yes or no on intake muffler replacement? Wouldn't it be better without, hence the turbo side intakes and replacement pipes for that section. I'm going to be telling the tuner that I want safe power. If valve springs come into it or the coolers holding things back then I don't care about the 300 number! I completely agree Ratter. Because I have time on my side I can keep an eye out for a second hand cooler and piping to come up. But only if its cheap enough because my car really won't be put under too many hard runs. If it passes on the dyno then that's the most it'll ever cop! Whats peoples opinions on the dump. Personally I'd rather cooler and piping than dump but they must include it in this package of theirs for a reason?
-
Thanks Jetsnot, I'll let him know I might do the piping for piece of mind but install myself before it goes in for a tune. Also do you know if theres any benefit to replacing the intake pipe from the crossover to the turbo? Is meant to have a muffler in it so im assuming so. have you done this?
-
Thanks mate! You're running F6 coolers wheres mines just an XR so I will suffer a little there, but in terms of power Im only searching for 300 so significantly less than you guys (unless I go e85 lol). And I doubt my car will ever see the strip, unless I need to go to Sydney or Melbourne for some reason as theres no strips anywhere close to Canberra lol. Quite helpful facts, that's what I like lol Did you run stock piping or change it just for piece of mind?

Let us now how the rubber donut goes! I'v learnt to drive around it too. But like I said its not just on gear shifts, its actually when coming off boost. Try using manual and coming off WOT in the same gear and see if you feel it. Makes me think moreso that it is the diff bushes or that rubber donut. I think I might be doing my diff bushes soonish just because I have 80,000kms and they have to be done at some point so see if that helps
-
Makes sense! If your not caught in traffic (I spend summer in a small town where theres never stop/start traffic) would it hold up, or you would still experience some heat soak and loss of power. Obviously I don't expect it to hold up to one of the good aftermarket coolers, but just seeing if it will hold up good enough
-
Well don't quote me word for word, it was a brief conversation, probably going to see the tuner 2moro if I have time and talk to him more. From your experience ratter how well can the stock cooler hold 300rwkw before heat soak starts to kick in? For the occasional thrash on the street will the stock cooler hold up?
-
Sweet thanks for all the positive comments guys! I realise the dump probably isn't necessary but I can ask the tuner why he recommends it (maybe he gets a deal on dump and cat or something) 300 is my goal and probably my only ever goal! The only reason I'll go for more is if I can somehow afford to keep it as a weekend car, but if that's the case it'll be pushed to the limits of the stock motor (but I think this is just wishful thinking) In terms of finances I'm at uni so saving up an extra grand is like 2 to 3 months for me so even though it makes sense to just save up a bit more It's a lot of extra waiting, hence why I considered the vcm tune alone to start. I saw a stock cooler with aftermarket piping on gumtree last nigh for like $250 so could snatch that up and sell the cooler, plus similar bargains come along all the time. I think piece of mind for a few hundred is worth it. $4k for 300rwkw sounds good to me

Hey guys before everyone starts telling me to get a new tuner or get new diff bushes lol, just hear me out. So read pretty much every 300 thread for FG's because I want to work out what I need to get there so I can start getting money together and sourcing parts. So from what I read, and what seems to be the norm I decided I was going to go for 60lb dekkas (maybe 80 if I decide to go e85), 100 cell cat (probably venom), PWR or PW stepped cooler with piping and I have a custom airbox with K n N panel (was thinking turbo side but don't think its worth it and the battery relo). So basically this should get me close to 300 at the treads. Total cost would be between $4-5k (with xcal 3 and tune - probably CV or Tunehouse) Being a uni student reality struck that I won't get that kind of cash for a while so I rang a tuner that I heard good things about in Queanbeyan (Im in Canberra) to see if it was worth just getting a vcm tune for now. Well heres my dilemma. He tells me he has a stage 1 kit which is for 300rwkw which includes 4inch dump, 100 cell cat, injectors, x3 and tune (custom airbox is normally part of it but I already have that). So he said he can do all this for $3.5k which is about right. So I began questioning him why he doesn't change at least the cooler pipes and he said he has never had an FG crack the cooler pipes ever. Then I asked about the cooler and heatsoak as well as power, n he said unless I'm doing huge back to back runs the cooler will hold up fine, especially for my general driving around. Then I asked about what about the dump without turbo mods and he said he can stop the boost from spiking mostly with the tune (which I have read has been done before). Although I'm hesitant (mostly about cooler piping) he is willing to guarantee his work, and by the sounds of it will guarantee the piping not too crack! So if he is willing to cover the costs if something happens (because he backs his own work) then it should be fairly safe. I know most people will say he's another intune and stuff, but basically has anyone had any success with these mods and how many people have actually cracked their cooler pipes? Like everyone says they can break but I haven't heard of anyone who has actually cracked them. Anyway like I said guys don't tear me to shreds here I do see the path most people follow and I was originally going to go that way, just want to see if this unconventional way will achieve the same result? Cheers

Did a bit of experimenting yesterday on the way to uni! I put it over to manual, smashing my date and coming off. Tried to do it in different gears and at different revs. I found the lower gears (1 and 2) at about 3-4k then coming off boost was at its worst, any higher than this was fine and in lower revs was only slight (made sense because less boost etc). Tried to avoid wheel spin where possible so the shunt wasn't from the tyres hooking up. Also if I didn't just jump off the throttle and kind of eased off it a bit it was fine, only shunted when completely coming off acceleration. So this makes me think that it is more than likely my sh*tty rubber diff bushes Does this info help shed any more light on what it could be?

Definitely put some more pics up. Seeing as I have a black car and got the same suspension set up as you going in in a few weeks you may have convinced me! MAY being the key word lol
-
^^This! I thought I was doing well at 20 with an 08 T lol! Congrats mate!
-
Just gave them a ring and told them what I'm after and he said he's got a package and he guarantees no issues doing it either! Like he goes against what a lot recommend on this forum but if he's willing to guarantee his work then that's fine by me! Looks like I'll be getting some work done sooner than I thought, still not till about christmas time but I can't wait!
-
Good luck getting someone to fit a 215 on a 9.5" rim lol Worm or Henz correct me if I'm wrong but I think the OP doesn't want negative camber but with those offsets and dumped won't he have to use camber to avoid it hitting the guards on bumps?
-
Any tyre shop should do it! Not in Bris but I got 2 245/35r19's fitted and balanced for $20 at a beaurepaires
-
And that's in a BA so FG is even cheaper to achieve that kind of mph
-
Well I'll tell Glen the price I can get everything for new (pretty much all from Rapids and Process West) and as long as he can come close then that's fine be me, warranty on everything will be worth it! I'll prob give them a ring today and I gotta head out to fyshwick on friday I think so might make the extra trip out to see him in person. Cheers for all your help mate

Farrrkk! Didn't hear about that one on the news so hoping no fatalties!
