  1. They are still going strong riptide. Used to work with Fred Krueger years ago. You need to come back for a visit. A lot of changes since 1990.
  2. In the valve closed position, that gives you closed seat pressure of the spring. I think a lot of engine builders measure spring tension at a certain valve lift as well. Coil bind is the main thing to look for if installing larger/longer springs. If changing cam profiles(higher lift), this should be checked.
  3. I know what shims do, but cant see what hydraulic lifters have to do with shimming the springs. The valve stem length is the same regardless of what shims etc are fitted. Only issue would be getting coil bind on max valve lift if the springs are too long, or shimmed up too much. Or am I reading riptides comments all wrong? My old motor has GT springs on it.
  4. What shims are you talking about?
  5. Sounds like someone has put the decals on. Not an ex Police car???
  6. Put a couple of bags of cement in the back. That will fix the bounce. And if one of the bags is busted, eat some, and harden the f u ck up. It is a ute, not a limo :sungum:
  7. If you are in Adelaide, Regency Park can be very picky. That does depend on the inspector, and weather he had sex the night before or not
  8. Looks like a tidy ute, not too bad on the ks, and leather, manual. Price is good too.
  9. I chose to replace most of my stuff. A lot of it probably wasnt needed, but I dont want to stuff up a new engine because I scrimped on some parts. My hoses, and radiator dont look too bad, so will be used for spares. I looked at a 2nd hand BA engine, but didnt want to end up blowing that down the track, plus it had 177,000ks on it. My new F6 engine will look smick with its blue rocker cover :sungum:
  10. It isnt a cheap job. Had to get my turbo rebuilt, new radiator(as cheap as a clean and check), RH engine mount(fark, they aint cheap :f*ckyou: ) new water pipes, as the F6 engine has the oil cooler on the block. Also got all new hoses coming, belt, flywheel bolts, and then labour on top of all that. Could have bought another ute for the money.
  11. I would be looking for a new tuner. This one sounds like he is taking you for a ride.
  12. Sounds like a "very happy" dyno. Unless I am wrong(wouldnt be 1st time) the engine only puts out 240kw at the flywheel?? K&N filters aint that good.
  13. Has it only been doing it since fitting the exhaust, and cooler etc? You say you only have stock tune? I would have thought with those mods it would need a tune. Maybe something to do with that.
  14. Is that the heat shield over the engine mount under the turbo? Is held on with a special clip to the mount to bracket bolt.
  15. What? Nobody on here is after bragging rights surely. Andy, just be carefull you dont get in over your head. If you have a blowup, you will be parking the car for a long time, unless you win the lotto, or have rich parents. But if you get the right bits, and get a conservative tune, you should be OK.
  16. Traction control kicking in?????? Do they have it? Sounds like it to me.
  17. +1 (as above) :sungum: Just been watching some burnout action on Youtube, and that pretty well answers your question.
  18. Just had a look at the holes in my sump today, and just like GB, my piston is very similar, broken rod, block is smashed inside, and can see the valve heads up thru the bottom. Engine out 2morro. Have ordered a new F6 long engine.
  19. My boots are too heavy Gave it a bootfull, and it just went bang. Oil everywhere. My cams are worn as well, so looking at a long, or complete engine ATM.
  20. Looks good GB. Mine has a hole in the sump, so will have to get one, and as yet not sure on my head, but your cost doesnt seem too bad. I may end up getting a late 2nd hand complete engine.
  21. I use Shell in my lawn mower, and that's about all its good for. Most performance motorbikes dont like it either. Blokes I used to ride with had starting probs with Shell, then switched to Mobil 98, and problems gone. So yeah, BP, and then I would say Caltex.
  22. What year BF do you have? Looks nasty, just waiting to get my engine out for a look(same problem) Does a complete FG turbo motor fit into a BA, BF???
  23. What does the steel tray weigh compared to the ute body? May help traction if its a bit heavier. I would like a cab height bar at the front though, following the cab lines. And some underneath fill ins of some description. Looks good otherwise. Something different from the run of the mill ute bodies, and sometimes, a bit more usefull.
  24. Blown engine. Not sure what damage, too slack to pull it down yet. Big hole in rear sump though.
