  1. Am I the only one that cares about my tailgate hinges allways being rusty!? Would not mater too much, except they stick out of the back and look like they come off a tractor. Sure they are pratical but they are ugly without the rust!
  2. Yep still up north. I will have a look at the slave cylinder when they pull the gearbox out. Apparently they are a plastic slave, which I have experianced before, and they are pron to problems. I dont know why manafacturers insisit on using plastic / phenolic parts in brake and clutch systems as they have proven to increase parts sales..........oh just realised why the do it!
  3. My FG XR6T has been having clutch issues for some time. It is now slipping but ford have indicated that it is wear and tear.............. I suspect that the clutch slave cylinder has been faulty, and has cuased the clutch to slip. At times the pedal has stuck down for a few seconds, resaulting in the pedal hitting me in the bottom of the foot. Any one else had issues with slow pedal relaes?
  4. The Factory strip at the front that holds the tourno in place has to be removed.
  5. I just did trip from Cairns to Sydney return. 5000kms in 5 days. Was towing a box trailer with camper top and some stuff inside. Avg speed was 90km/hr. sat on speed limit for the whole trip unless over taking ( on private road under controled conditions) where I would get up to 140km/h breifly. I got a true 12.7 ltrs per 100. this was confirmed by trip computer, and by the amount of fuel I used. Without trailer in the past I have got under 10ltrs per 100, making it from mackay to cairns on a tank, without fuel warning light coming on. Car is XR6 Turbo, Manual FG with 30k Around town I get allmost 300km to tank, but I do very short stop start driving as I only live 1km from cbd.
  6. Like most AUssies I am divorced with kids. When I have the kids, apparently they cant sit in the back of the Turbo ute, even though they would enjoy it. I decieded to by a Fairlane By Tickford as a second car. I did a comparison on them becuse the girlfriend thought it was too big for her to drive, and found a few interesting things: Apart from the obvious power differance, the FG Ute is longer, wider, and heaver than the long wheelbase Fairlane! It is amazing in how far cars have come in 10 years. At $70000 The Tickford Fairlanes were $20000 more than a standard Fairlane and even cost more than an LTD. Only 100 or 106 were made. They had a whoping 195kw and 430nm. 0-100 in 8.1! My mate said to me he cant wait till he sees how I drive a v8, and I said "slowly I would imagine". With the exception of a few small areas the old work ute, has got more features and luxuary than the top os the line 1998 Fairlane. Where will the next 10 years take us?........
  7. Well as I said, havent tried it, but I have tried to use the launch control, and I am not good at it at all. I am better of lifting my foot of the cluch then stomping it, becuse if you try and do it like a car without laucnh contol, it will slip the clutch or make the car shake like a rodeo clown!

  9. I heard from a friend who has a FG Manual ute, that becuse of the Launch Control, you cant do a line lock in a FG Manual. Is this true? havent tried it in mine.........thought someone already had!
  10. When I give it to it, the syncro grinds from 1st to 2nd gear, seems to happen more when car is cold. has anyone had ths problem?

    Reverse Sensors

I got ASL reverse camera and Sat nav kit. The reverse camera is good, but till need to use mirrors. I think it would be better than sensors, maybe.............
  12. When was yours built? Hope mine has 1 ton springs in it, and I will keep them...........make tax easier!
  13. On the 50th they come Factory fitted. I saw my ute coming off the truck, from melbourne and they were on it. I like the mud flaps that ford supply. I even bought some and put them on the front. I spose you have to make the choice, stone chipped, marks on the paint under the mudflaps, or flat trailer mudflasp. My choice was the Ford Flaps!
  14. Saw a 50th turbo ute on carsales for $37990 withg 13000km on the clock, lets hope they get it! Saw a wa dealer has a new one for $45000, lets hope they get it too, can only increase the resale of ours,...................but I dont like the chances!
  15. Thanks for that! It seems it is my fualt becse I didnt knoi had to do an EXHALE first! Booked car in, hopfully easy fix!
  16. Samboc, not sure I follow some of your arguments, but you DONT have to justify it to me, if you are happy with car, that's all that maters. I would not asy no to an ex cop car, but it would be important to ME to get it much cheaper than a mint car. All though my last 5 cars have all been brand new,I dont have a problems with secondhand cars. The most relaible car I ever had was a Subaru Liberty. bought with 30k sold with 300k, spent about $1000 on repairs. The biggest heap of I owned was a brand new BAMKI XR6 Turbo that I bought with 19kms and had put down (traded in) at 7000kms. So you can be lucky and unlucky with anything. As a mechanic I now tend to put more inot gut feeling about cars now than going right over them. I also think it is hard call BA low KMs or FG High KMs........... Dont know which I would go, if I had a set budjet I think I would go FG. I think if you are going to mod a car, you would be better of buying a cheaper higher km car for sure. Why pay extra for the low kms then rip everything out and start again. Kms do tend to be over rated at times, I have seen taxi's with 800000kms, and still not too bad. one note though, would be supprised if you got more than 30k out of tyres and better than 12ltrs per 100.....I got 7000kms out of my tyres on both XR's
  17. I checked the FPV sote and the specifications are ......................... "COMING SOON" I would be supprised if they didnt have same towing! A 50th Ann pack is not a bad option, and IMO has a better interior than the F6, with exception of 2 extra gauges. WHats the towing cap of the GS?
  18. Hi, Fitted my Sat NAv last week. Had to take into fore to have the computer programed so that it knew I had sat nav and reverse camera. Now my Ipod connection donsnt work. It dosnt even charge the device. Any ideas? Can this be turn off in the computer by accident??
  19. Could also be the rating on the tyres, and and issue with clutch etc. The auto Xrs are 2300 and manual is 1600, yet the Ford ranger the manual is 3000 but the auto is only 2300??
  20. I went I my Hilux to pick up out 1000kg surface grinder, as the guy lowered it onto the back he wasnt quick enough to stop as the the car just kept going down, turns out I was 1900kg............. oh well only paid freight on 1000kg!
  21. A salesman would never do that I had the choice of one in september andone in october, but as october was the last month they made them (maybe), I wnet for that, even though the wait just about killed me!
  22. Mine was built 12 october. Mine was SILVER AUTO, but Changed to Manual white....... I had to go white becuse I am pure!
  23. I only paid $250 for mine. Can buy a wheel from the wreckers for $80 to use as a spare, but if you hit a gutter, or get a spike through the tyre, $250 would be cheap!
